I finaly upgraded my boat
Submitted by grantarctic1 on Fri, 2011-07-22 13:24Hi Crew, After having my little tinny for over ten years i sold it yesterday and used the money as a deposit on another boat.
5.8m centre console with a 115 saltwater series Yammy.
It needs a bit of work as it's been sitting around for 18 months in the weather. But i should be able to fix any problems in my factory and tidy it up a bit.
Now i can finaly get out a bit wider and take someone that weighs more than 60kg lol.
Cheers Grant

Mitchell 499 up for auction with proceeds to Fishwrecked
Submitted by carnarvonite on Fri, 2011-07-22 00:15With thanks to Honsu for new bearings and 40lb line , I have decided to donate one of my Mitchell 499 reels for auction with the proceeds going to Fishwrecked as a donation for work done behinds the scenes to keep it as the top site around.
The reel has done a bit [quite] of work over the years and has some scars to show for it but the internals are in good nick. Nothing has been done to pretty up the outside of it, the winner can choose it if he or she prefers so what you see is what you get. The same reel in like condition would bring better than $200 on ebay.
Those of you who have used these reels will remember that they were and still are up there with the best eggbeaters used for high speed spinning from the rocks at Steep Point and Quobba.
The cut off point will be 2000 [8.00 PM] Wednesday night or if Adam has another time in mind.
Thanks and happy bidding.

- Covered in 100,000kg of gold, jewels
- Even comes with T-Rex dinosaur bone

NOW that's how you bling up a yacht.
A gold-plated super-yacht worth a staggering £3 billion ($4.5 billion) has claimed the title of the most expensive in the world.
The 30-metre long History Supreme yacht is adorned with 100,000 kilograms of gold that covers more than half its surface and even comes with a statue made from the bone of a T-Rex dinosaur.
The base of the yacht as well as the deck, dining areas, rails and anchor are wrapped in solid gold and the sleeping areas are covered in platinum.
There is also a wall feature in the master bedroom that is made from meteoric stone and an aquarium made from 68kg of 24 carat gold that cost $4.5 million.
Also on board is a luxury liquor bottle featuring an 18.5ct diamond, one of the world’s rarest.
Designed by UK jeweller Stuart Hughes, the “mammoth” project took over three years to complete.
The vessel even outshines Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich’s $450m yacht Eclipse, which has its own missile defence system and a submarine.
The History Supreme was completed in Malaysia two weeks ago for an anonymous businessman.

Mr Hughes has also produced laptops, beds, cars and a suit covered in precious metals.

Portable 12V LED lights
Submitted by timboon on Thu, 2011-07-21 05:03FW Crew ,
Does anybody know of a really good quality portable 12V LED lighting system that could be used for the likes of Mountain Biking or clamping to a Rifle Barrel etc. Would have to put out some good light and be quite long lasting, I`ve been told the "AY UP" system is good quality but thought i`d get some opinions here as there`s a wealth of knowledge out there.
Cheers Timboon...

News of the World
Submitted by Ben Derecki on Wed, 2011-07-20 00:16So I'm knackered and need to hit the hay but I'm pretty enthralled by the Murdoch's getting grilled by the British MPs on Ten.
While I'm a Noam Chomsky / Neil Postman fan and I'd love to see these guys get hung out to dry if they're guilty the questioning that's going on I have serious issues with... these MPs (three of them so far) look like they're out for cheap points, they want them to go down and they're framing their questions to box them into a corner. That's no way to seek justice, if you take that line to you're questioning your approach to an issue isn't too different to the NOTW's approach.
Hope this doesn't go on for two many more hours!

RIP Skinny
Submitted by azz on Sun, 2011-07-17 20:23RIP Skinny
In sad news we farewell a WA fisherman in Ian Smith (aka Skinny).
He had great passion for fishing and just loved to get out on the water and get a rod and reel in his hands. He was the type of bloke that would give you the shirt off his back, everyone who knew Skinny would have told you that. We are all better off for knowing you.
I'll miss you and surely remember you every time I wet a line.
My condolences to his family, RIP MATE

Tackle Shops in Karatha
Submitted by snodger on Fri, 2011-07-15 20:19Hi Fella's,
My first post here.
I am heading up to Karatha for work and was wondering if the tackle shops there are open Sundays? (my days off).
I was wanting to set myself up with an alround spinning rod & reel combo for land based fishing at places like the causeway and creeks for Barra or whatever will take a lure or plastic up that way (may set up for livies later on when I am more settled in).
If anyone there has some 2nd hand gear for sale I would also be interested.
Cheers
Steve

Wednesday Dive
Submitted by tiimmbo on Wed, 2011-07-13 19:31Went for a run to the back of the 5 fathom today for a couple of dives with the straight hooks. Was a balmy 14C at 20m out there today. Nothing of much interest about, no crays to be seen though another nice cave was marked for cray season, no decent fish but did manage to find the anchor I lost out there a couple of months ago. All in all I was pretty happy just to get out and stoked to find my lost anchor. Conditions were pretty good, a bit of chop early but beautiful on our way back in.
Canon DSLR Lenses
Submitted by jay_burgess on Wed, 2011-07-13 06:31Depending on how generous the tax man is with my return I'm thinking of finally upgrading my Canon 1000D with something a bit more proffessional. Probably going to get the 7D for it's 8fps shooting capailities. Just after suggestions on what lense/s would be good for it from a fishing perspective (98% of my camera use is fishing related).. was thinking a 18-200mm might be suitable for now and later on I would like to get a wide angle. Any suggestions?

Fishing near oil and gas rig's
Submitted by grantarctic1 on Mon, 2011-07-11 20:47After watching some video's with people fishing right next to oil rig's in the Gulf of Mexico, I was wondering if in Western Australia, are you alowed to go near the oil and gas rig's to fish ? .
I noticed they worked like massive FAD's and local tour guides, and even pro fishermen were taking advantage of the masses of fish that surrounded these platforms. Some boats even moored of the rig's and spear fished under them.
I'm not interested in the right or wrong of drilling for oil or gas in Australia, ( don't want to start a debate on that subject ) Just the legality of fishing these structures in the Mid to North West of our state.
Cheers Grant

For the true romantics out there....
Submitted by The_Wanderer on Mon, 2011-07-11 09:22THESE ARE ENTRIES TO A WASHINGTON POST COMPETITION ASKING FOR A TWO-LINE RHYME WITH THE MOST ROMANTIC FIRST LINE, AND THE LEAST ROMANTIC SECOND LINE:
1. My darling, my lover, my beautiful wife: Marrying you has screwed up my life.
2. I see your face when I am dreaming. That’s why I always wake up screaming.
3. Kind, intelligent, loving and hot; This describes everything you are not.
4. Love may be beautiful, love may be bliss, But I only slept with you ’cause I was pissed.
5.. I thought that I could love no other — that is until I met your brother.
6. Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet, and so are you. But the roses are wilting, the violets are dead, the sugar bowl’s Empty and so is your head.
7. I want to feel your sweet embrace; But don’t take that paper bag off your face.
8. I love your smile, your face, and your eyes Damn, I’m good at telling lies!
9. My love, you take my breath away. What have you stepped in to smell this way?
10. My feelings for you no words can tell, Except for maybe ‘Go to hell.’
11. What inspired this amorous rhyme? Two parts vodka, one part lime.
