Exmouth Scenic Pics - Non fishing related

Not a fishing related post, just some scenery from Exmouth. Black footed rock wallabies and Yardie creek being very full and uncrossable on medium tide.

Alkimos Drain

Looks like the Govt is planning to dump its sewer into the ocean at Alkimos

$360million water project for Perth’s northern suburbs

A major new wastewater infrastructure project is set to underpin the future development of Perth’s burgeoning northern corridor.
Premier Alan Carpenter and Water Resources Minister John Kobelke today launched the $360million project in the soon-to-be-created suburb of Alkimos.
The Alkimos Wastewater Treatment Plant, associated ocean outlet and sewer mains, are scheduled for completion by 2010.
The Premier and Minister turned the first sod of soil to mark the start of earthworks for the plant, which will see up to three million cubic metres of soil - enough to fill Subiaco Oval to the height of the goal posts 16 times - cleared over the next eight months.
“The Alkimos Wastewater Treatment Plant will be the next major wastewater treatment facility for Perth,” Mr Carpenter said.
“It will join Woodman Point, Beenyup and Subiaco wastewater treatment plants, which currently treat about 80 per cent of Perth’s wastewater and are undergoing major upgrades.
“The Alkimos area is expected to become a significant regional centre with a population predicted to reach about 150,000 by 2030.
“Extensive infrastructure is needed to support this growth and the Water Corporation has an important role to provide first-class wastewater and water services.”
Work is also well advanced on tunnelling and open-trench construction to extend the Quinns main sewer a distance of 5km, which will link it to the Alkimos Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Plans are being prepared to bring the main sewer south from Yanchep and Two Rocks to the new wastewater treatment plant.
Mr Kobelke said the plant would have an ultimate capacity of 150 megalitres of wastewater a day and would use advanced secondary treatment technology.
“The Alkimos Wastewater Treatment Plant will be located within land owned by the Water Corporation that completely contains the odour buffer,” Mr Kobelke said.
“The land within the buffer has the potential to become a valuable community asset that accommodates a variety of important social and environmental features.”
Mindarie MLA John Quigley welcomed the start of construction work on the new treatment plant.
“The Alkimos Wastewater Treatment Plant is a significant infrastructure investment that will help sustain the future development of the northern suburbs,” Mr Quigley said.
The wastewater treatment plant earthworks and the Quinns main sewer extension are being undertaken by the Alkimos Water Alliance, where the Water Corporation is working in partnership with Brookfield Multiplex, Macmahon Contractors and Zueblin Australia.
“The State Government is committed to building better infrastructure for Western Australia’s future,” the Premier said.

Albany Bitey is Back

The Department of Fisheries will patrol Albany waters this morning following two sightings of a large shark cruising off Emu Point late yesterday.

The two independent sightings happened around 5pm and follow the May 10 mauling by a white pointer of Albany school teacher Jason Cull off Middleton Beach.

Department of Fisheries’ Regional Manager Phil Shaw said a fisherman, as well as a person on a nearby beach, had made separate calls to police yesterday to say they were certain they had seen a shark off Emu Point and adjacent to Griffiths Streets, in the Middleton Beach area.

“The fact that two people saw something, and that the fisherman told police he was in a 12 foot dinghy and he thought the white shark he saw was at least as long as his vessel, has raised my concern,” Mr Shaw said.

“I have advised the local council of the new sightings, but I want to be sure that anyone venturing into the water around the Middleton Beach area, or at any other local beach over the rest of this long weekend is very cautious.

“As we saw in the days after the attack, last month, several sharks had been reported off Albany’s beaches, but these new sightings are the first since the beaches between Emu Point and Middleton Beach were re-opened.”

Mr Shaw said the Department of Fisheries would have a patrol boat out on the bay area from early this morning; however, people also had to be conscious of their own safety.

“We will patrol the local waters to see if we can sight any sharks,” he said.

“Nevertheless, I would again like to draw attention to our shark safety tips and also ask if anyone who sights a shark off Albany’s beaches can call the Water Police on 9442 8600.”

Mr Shaw said Fisheries monitoring of local waters would be conducted as required and new sightings would be investigated as they normally were under WA’s Shark Incident Emergency Response Plan.

“One thing that really helps is for people, if they do see a shark, to call the Water Police direct on 9442 8600,” he said.

“From there, the Water Police activate the Response Plan, advise the appropriate local authorities and help get any warnings out to the community in a prompt an efficient manner.”

Mr Cull survived the May 10 shark attack but required surgery to repair damage to his legs.

He had been swimming around 80 metres off Middleton Beach when he was attacked by a four-metre white pointer.

The shark dragged him under the water and only let go of his legs when he poked it in the eye.

Up to three white pointers continued to menace Albany beachgoers for the next 10 days before the beaches were finally reopened on May 20.

There have been several shark sightings in the area since that time.

Scientists where baffled as to why a female white pointer refused to leave the simming area for 10 days before finally heading back out to sea.

Hope to get the inside story when my wife gets home tonight (she works at DPI  in Albany)

Fishing Community

While fishing Sbend on the weekend one of our Club members was fishing on the beach and after hauling in 2 Wobbygongs started to have chest pain. Plenty of fishers came to his aid. One of who drove him and his car out from the beach back to the Sbend Caravan park where he was helped by a Lady in the park who happened to be a Registered Nurse. An ambulance arrive 14 minutes later and he was taken to Geralton hospital. Turned out to be a heart attack and he was transported by air back to perth. I cant thank these people enough who helped out there quick action saved our mate. We are thankful he wasnt fishing alone that night. Any way he is in good hands now.
Thanks to all

Wheel bearings

Free to a good home.

2 x set of wheel bearings to suit 1.25 tonne axle and marine grade double lipped seals.

I bought them ages ago when I replaced my springs but got the wrong ones. I only had 1 tonne axles.

I have no need of them and they are just sitting arround so if anyone wants them they can have them.

Im down in Rockingham if this suits anybody.

need help ~making rod

ay if i got a blank and i m trying to put eyes on it will pva glue be alright for it  or do i need special glue or soething

Isn't the ocean big enough?

Just like to say hello to the tosser in the cat red bottom half of hull white top half who decided to drop anchor between me and Rodrat fishing on the 5 fathom off the north end of garden island today, we where only 40 metres apart. Now I will be the first to say we dont own the ocean but to anchor so close to someone else is down right rude if you had been 50 or 60 metres away fine but as it was the fact there was two boats fishing and rodrat had one on was enough to make you think you could just barge in. if your a member here then you know who you are....have a bit of respect for other peoples fishing space

Don't know wether this is a dum question, but was wondering

Do you need to use a weight in shallow water or just in deep water?
Thanks

funnies part 2

i hope it's ok to start this thread.... last one was getting tooooo long

A father asked his 10-year old son if he knew about the birds and the bees.
'I don't want to know,' the child said, bursting into tears.  'Promise me you won't tell me.'
Confused, the father asked what was wrong.
The boy sobbed, 'When I was six, I got the 'There's no Easter Bunny' speech
At seven, I got the 'There's no Tooth Fairy' speech.
When I was eight, you hit me with the 'There's no Santa' speech.
If you're going to tell me that grown-ups don't really root, I'll have nothing left to live for.'

EXMOUTH COMP????

Hi all and Adam,

Was wondering if there has been any more thoughts or discussion
to wether there will be a annual fishwrecked comp held in Exmouth?
I for one would be very keen as i am sure others would be with the amount of people traveling up there.

Thanks

R.I.P. North Mole?

I'm kinda interested in what people think about this?

Personally i think it could go one of two ways, and public access to this area is what will make or break it for the rec fisherman. One way of looking at it is another huge, man made fishing platform that will offer better access, more room, and more structure for fisho's. But will this area have restricted access i wonder, residents only? That would be terribad for fisherman.

Anyway, just after some feedback, or info from anyone more enlightened than myself.

This is the entry to Freo Harbour by the way, with North Mole the southern most breakwater in the photo.

seafloor mapping software

was surfing the net and found info on gps mapping software that rigs up to a computer/sounder and gives a 3D picture of the bottom and was wondering if anyone has been using such software to map the seafloor. I assume the pro's would use it for crayfishing etc.
Would be great addition to the boat hooked up to a laptop.

Cheap sounder for the tinnie

For those who may want a cheap sounder for when your crabbing in murky water and want to know the depth.

Runs on AA batteries.

Car held together by cable ties

Hope this is not the car you will be driving for your birthday present Pete D.

A man has been charged for driving a car held together by cable ties at 263 kilometres per hour.

Police say a patrol spotted the car speeding on the Hume Highway near Mittagong in south-west New South Wales around 8:00pm yesterday.

When police stopped the vehicle, they found the car's body was held together with cable ties and the battery held in place with a rag and a bracket.

Instead of seats, the back of the car was filled with tyres and police say they smelled a strong odour of fuel.

A 21-year-old man from Rouse Hill has been charged with driving at a dangerous speed.

Police say the man told them he had spent the day at the race track.

He will appear at Moss Vale Local Court on June 16.
