Tips for Fitting out a Dinghy
Submitted by Dean on Fri, 2008-10-10 18:02looking at going up to exmouth in Feb. Looking at buying a Tinny with a few mates and Fitting it out ourselves.
And After having a talk with Spess, thought I'd start this.
So the main issue is with storage and the limited space. Setups for rod holders (and trolling), Eskys Food/drinks/fish and Bait, GPS/Fish Finder Mounts, Anchor Well, cutting boards, seats tackle etc.
Anyone with Ideas, tips Please post up. Photos would be great aswell
Cheers

27 Meg /VHS radios foe Exmouth Fishwrecked Fishing Comp
Submitted by carnarvonite on Fri, 2008-10-10 16:16As a thought ,how many of those thinking of heading up for the comp have VHS radios?
Exmouth Marine Rescue and the same here in Carnarvon prefer the use of VHS over 27 meg due to the distances boats need to travel to get fish.Exmouth has a repeater for boats working down the west side from Tanta's for VHS but not for 27meg.
I know its an extra cost for them and having to obtain a restricted marine radio licence but I think it is worth it if the life it may save is yours

Suburban Songs
Submitted by Colin Hay on Fri, 2008-10-10 12:24Sorry, I know this is not a fishing topic, but I was wondering if anyone happened to be listening to 96FM when it recently held its Suburban Song contest. I knocked up two songs (one about being in a Subi Bar to the music of Back in the USSR and one on Mirrabooka to the music of Helter Skelter) and sent them in for a bit of a lark. I had a phone call this morning to tell me I was a finalist and had won a prize (unfortunately not the $10,000 first prize). I never even knew they had played one of my songs. The 96FM girl couldn't tell me which one of my songs made the finals and I am wondering if anyone happened to hear either one of my feeble efforts.
All the best, Colin Hay

V5 ban Just thought I'd add my opinion.
Submitted by fisherking on Thu, 2008-10-09 16:11Just thought I'd add my opinion.
This ban thing seems a bit tricky. There was a guy on here the other day who had the best idea yet. Imo.
The odd & even number thing makes perfect sense to me. Not complicated & pretty damn easy to enforce.
Maybe it's just too simple.
Personally, I'm not against a ban as long as it is a ban on recs & commercial fishing.
We used to have a closed season back home, during the spawning season, & it seemed to work well. That first day of the new season was a really exiting time, get down to the water the night before & drop yer line on the stroke of midnight. The anticipation was out of this world.
I'm sure I'll catch a biggy oneday.

Bok ! Bok ! Night
Submitted by Dreamweaver on Wed, 2008-10-08 09:04I know it's not fishing related (well, it is actually at a stretch because it brings in $$$s for fishing) , but a few of you wanted to see some picks of the chicken chasing. So, managed to take the camera last night.
Basically, we meet up at factory, load up the 3 trucks and trailers and then head out to the farm/s. Each pallet holds 20 cages and each cage can hold 6, 7, 8 or 10 chooks - depending on the size/breed of the chooks. Last night we did 70 pallets of 'sixes' - thats 70x20x6 or 8, 400 chooks.
We started at 06:00pm and finished at 09:15.
Sweaty and physical work, but I actually enjoy it.
LOADING UP AND TYING DOWN THE TRUCKS:
THE 8,400 CHOOKS - TASK WAS TO CLEAR THE SHED
LOADING THEM UP:
SHED CLEARED AND JOB DONE:
Just getting over a bad cold and after 2 days in bed, it was hard going - VERY sweaty and smelly!

Exmouth Trip!
Submitted by Percula on Tue, 2008-10-07 23:03Hey am heading to exmouth next week and can't wait!
Anyway if the weather is good enough I want to target some sailfish, where is the best place to launch?
The marina or Tantas, and head to the back of the reef? Can you launch at Bundegi at all, or do we have to wait till the jetty is finished?
Also what are some good technics inside the reef? Anchor up and burley up and try and get the fish to come to you? Or drift drift drift with lots of casting?
Any help greatly appreciated, and hopefully will show you all some great photos when I get back!
Cheers

Anyone have a spare epirb?
Submitted by Percula on Tue, 2008-10-07 22:59Hey Guys
I am heading to exmouth next week and was wondering if anyone has an epirb I could borrow?
I don't want to buy one as its only for a week and I am borrowing my old mans boat. Doesn't need to be new and fancy, just an analogue one and the battery is in date?
Any help would be great!
Thanks

Blue Power Headlamp Globes?
Submitted by Dreamweaver on Mon, 2008-10-06 09:26One of the headlamp globes blew on our Kia Sorrento and was thinking of replacing them with Blue Power's as advertised in Repco's latest brochure as the lights on the Kia have never been great. Haven't the dollars to shelve out some decent pencil spots yet.
Has anybody fitted these and what improvement did you experience?
They're on special at $54.99 a pair - thats only 2,749.5 of the 18,750 chooks I caught last fortnight.

AQUA today
Submitted by mako magic on Sun, 2008-10-05 18:20Went to AQUA today on my day off for a little peek, damn i could spend all day there.
Watching one of the bigger dhuies, he was very territorial to all the other dhuies that came near his spot, makes you wonder what they do when they school up together.
Gee there are some huge fish in there, one especially big tailor too, and some thumper pinkies.
Great way to spend a few hours on a shitty sunday arvo for sure, highly recommended, though not cheap

How not to quit smoking
Submitted by Colin Hay on Fri, 2008-10-03 12:25A Malaysian couple have been beaten to death by family members in a bizarre ritual to cure them of a smoking habit and illnesses, media reports said.
A 15-year-old daughter of one of the four relatives who carried out the beating was also attacked after stumbling onto the scene and is fighting for her life in hospital.
Police spokesman Ku Chin Wah told the official Bernama news agency that the attack took place when Mohamed Ibrahim Kader Mydin, 47, and his wife Rosina Mydin Pillay, 41, visited their family on Thursday (local time).
They mentioned that Mohamed Ibrahim was seeking help to stop his smoking habit, and that his wife was suffering from asthma and a liver ailment.
"Following this, a 23-year-old male relative suggested that the couple undergo a ritual which involved all family members joining forces to beat up the couple to rid them of their ailments," Mr Ku told Bernama.
The four relatives smashed the couple's heads on a table and assaulted them with crash helmets and brooms, he said.
An ambulance was called only hours later when they had not regained consciousness.
Bernama said that one of the four suspects, who are now in custody, was believed to belong to a "deviant" cult.
Malaysia is a predominantly Muslim country and authorities periodically crack down on unauthorised sects.

Here's a novel idea
Submitted by ody on Thu, 2008-10-02 19:51Hi Ya,
Let's build wave power generation farms in out of the way places so we can have sustainable power generation. These farms will cover the sea bed with things that stick up off the sea bed and will probably cover who knows how many hectares could be in the ten's. Best of all, lets put them in out of the way places like Jurien, Rotto, Augusta, (and other similar palces). And to make sure we don't do any damage to them, we will have to ban silly activities like fishing etc cause we can't have hooks and sinkers and anchors dragged all over them now could we.
Least that's what was reported on the news the other night. And Mr Barnett thinks it is a wonderful idea.
Cheers.
(The bit about bannng fishing was my idea, but I'm almost prepared to put money on it.)

Submitted by tackleshack_DOUG on Thu, 2008-10-02 18:36Just a short introduction here for everyone to get to know me.
As some people are aware and some aren't my name is Doug and i am the new owner of The Tackle Shack.
I was born in Qld, a very short 55 years ago, and moved to WA around 40 years ago now and thouroughly enjoy it here.
My interests are obviously fishing, mainly beach ,river and jetty with a preference to my favorite location being Carnavon. Favorite fish to catch would be mulloway big or small.
Other interests are travelling and driving, the longer the better, i often go for a SHORT drive and dont come back for a day or two
I also like gardening and driving the missus mad.(expert at it now)
So feel free to pop in anytime and introduce yourselves to me and or message me.
Any idea's also on what people would like to see in the shop would also be taken into account so we can make The Tackle Shack a bigger and better shop for all, so give us some idea's.

Introducing!
Submitted by Percula on Wed, 2008-10-01 22:06Hey Everyone!
Have finally got around to signing up to this website, long time reader but first time poster!
Although you may recognise me from other fishing websites!
Love this site though, so much info. Guess it also helps with Adam living in exmouth and giving regular updates.
Anyway I am off to exmouth in a week and a bit, 12th - 19th october.
Will have a small tinny and my mates will have another. Any hints and tips would be great as to where to go. Do have a chartplotter and a big yearning to catch some fish!
Went up last year but got blown away, although did get a few. Hopefully this year will be better!
Anyway key question is where do I find a sailfish?! And a nice red emperor?!
Cheers guys!

Shells in Fish

Most times you will find only bits and pieces but you never know.Over the years I've found heaps of perfect small shells.Parrot fish have a few but no where near as many as in queenies.
