Great reading material for anyone wanting to fish the Kimberly
Submitted by NORUN NOFUN on Tue, 2016-04-19 20:30Just some info for you guys wanting to plan a fishing trip to the Kimberly or more.
There is a great magazine called the north australian fisher finder.
It is full of aerial photo's, gps spots, generel information regarding access and phone numbers and a hell of alot more information.
Just the aerial pictures are awesome as they show rock bars, wrecks and more with co-ords.

Knee Buckled
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Mon, 2016-04-18 09:29Was playing a beauty yesterday racking up clearances galore through the middle, hitting targets and feeling the fittest I’ve felt since I had cartilage removed from my knee last year. Picked up the loose ball and worked through traffic to nail my team mate with a low snap and he spilled it resulting in a turnover. I gave chase on the inside and as he went to handball back in I changed direction but my knee didn’t and it gave way with a big thunk and down I went screaming in anguish. After a couple of minutes I got the courage to try to stand on it and I was able to walk off with no pain and get some ice on it.
I didn’t get a chance to ice it properly as my mate got his ribs broken and punctured his lung as I rushed him to hospital and stayed with him until it was determined he was in for the night and went to his place to feed his dogs and get him some fresh clothes etc.
I’m pretty stiff, swollen and sore today. Seeing the physio soon and getting an MRI done tomorrow morning so really just expecting the worst and hoping for the best but the way I went down doesn’t fill me with a lot of confidence.
Anyhow that’s my sob story for the week and if I’ve done my ACL you can expect a few more fishing reports!

Made a mistake bought a ranger.
Submitted by crano on Fri, 2016-04-15 06:45Got a new ranger that has done about 4000km.
First problem I put the aluminium tradies body and tools on it and the springs were bent backwards.this the same setup that lived on the back of a hilux for 9 years without a problem. I have had it on a weighbridge and it weighs 2560 kg which means it is carrying about half of its rated payload. Had to put new springs on it.
Next there was a drama with the electronics module installed for the trailer lights. Why the hell do you need car with electronics involved in turning a few lights on.
A couple of weeks ago the engine started to stop at times and sometimes refuse to start. It always did start again if I waited 5 to 10 minutes. It spent a couple of days at the dealer and they said they suspect a crankshaft position sensor but fords policy is not to replace any parts until they have died completely. This leaves me with a car that randomly stops and they will do nothing. This is comforting when I am going to coral bay next week with a boat. I have had to purchase my own sensor for $444 and they told me they were great people because they put it in for free [10 minute job] while the car was already there while they looked at the next problem.
Next problem was I heard a lot of relays clicking in the dash and the radio went off so I went to switch off the engine to try and reset the radio and the engine kept going,I took the key out and it still kept going and only stopped when I opened the door. It logged 13 error codes that were all to do with one computer talking to another computer and they upgraded some software. I hope that is the end of that problem.
The dash display sometimes shows stupid messages that are not relevant with the most common being hillstart assist not available.
The car would often hesitate for a few seconds before accelerating again. This showed up going through intersection and at about 500km it caused another vehicle to have to slow down to avod me. At 300km it started another problem where at about 70 kmh on really light throttle the transmition would givea big bang. The first time I thought I must have run over something. These two issues seem to have been resolved after software upgrade to the gearbox.
All this after having a another vehicle andthe only thing I did to it in 9 years was replace the front pads.
Going to be a great trip to coral bay wondering if I am goingto break down.
Learn from my mistake.

Round 4 - Good luck
Submitted by crasny1 on Wed, 2016-04-13 15:30That other one is big.
Hoping WCE
Cats for sure
Hawks
Gold Coast in the Q challenge
Bullies to bully carlton
Oooh Crows but only because in Adelaide
Gaints - Wingard out and Ports form so far is like Freo
Melbourne on the rise (slowly) and Pies sinking
North Melbourne - Im afraid for Freo for zip/4. Just don't think they would have a rapid enough form reversal to outplay NM in Melbourne.
3 tight games IMO. Adelaide Sydney a cracker, Giants and Port, Collingwood and Melbourne

Maggotsd under the hull? ID and info please
Submitted by Quobbarockhopper on Tue, 2016-04-12 15:14Hey all
have found somthing that could poteintally be a bit disturbing on the boat and was hoping someone couldhed some light on it for me with a positive ID on them
When giving the boat a once over today, I found a few what looks to be insect (pupa?) shells in the front bow storage area. Its a glass boat and has a sealed floor with a bow to sterm flushing system, so I ran a rose and a fair bit of water through it for a good length of time and no more of them, or anything else suspicious looking came through it, so its got me a bit stumped...
I originally thought the worst (termites in the stringer beams etc) but after some googling, these things dont look like anything like termite shells
I then thought wasps as we get a heap of them up here, but again, they done look anything like what we find in those annoying red dirt nests they build all over the walls here.
I then remembered that a couple of trips ago, a decent sized grinner destined for bait fell into the bilge pod and disappeared under the floor, never to be seen again, so am thinking the shells might be a result of maggots from it rotting out up under there, which Im guessing wont be too much to worry about. Judging by the little ridges on the shells and the look of the couple of pics I found online, I think I might be right in saying maggots?
The first two pics are the ones I found, and the last two are the results of my googling
Anyone got any definate idea on what they are? if if maggots- could they potentially have done/ be doing any damage that I cant see? The hull obviously gets flushed natuarly when Im out on the water due to the design, and I found them in the bow part which probably doesnt get as much water through it as the rest of the hull, but any advice/ info would be great
thanks

Coral Bay Snakes
Submitted by Tom M on Mon, 2016-04-11 09:49Just returned from Coral Bay over the weekend and could not believe the plague of snakes up there. We arrived good friday, unhitched the boat and had a snake slide under the boat coming out from under our cabin at the Bayview c/van park. When I raised this there had been 35 sightings in the previous week, mine made 36 with many more over the next 2 weeks including the pool area and kids playground. What has amazed me is that there was not one warning from the park management, surely they don't put profit ahead of customer safety. I would have been motified if I was satying in a tent or had my kids running around the park.
That said fishing was fair, plenty of Cobia up there, sharks where unbelievable at one point counted over 20 under the boat on the first day out, 60 mteres of water. The following day a 5 meter tiger circling the boat sorry no photos.
Near miss on the trip back witha Kyak flying off the roof of a car passing us, lots of traffic on the road Saturday start of school holidays, not one copper seen on the road from there to Perth........... Going up 1 radar at Dongara, so much for police presence on the roads.

Rod guide help
Submitted by Madmerv on Sun, 2016-04-03 13:01Hi all.
I need some help/suggestions on how to check if there is a hairline crack/chip in rod guides.
The background is: Took the daughter out fishing on Sat in 15-20m for some bottom bashing. She got snagged up good and after a bit of trying myself it was time to lock up and snap off. Grabbed the spool, straightened the rod and waited for the next swell. Swell came and just as it was loading up the line snapped on the surface somewhere within the rod length. Not sure exactly where as i didnt pull out what line was left trailing off the reel..Doh
I have seen this happen several times with rods not being looked after and a cracked rod guide is always to blame.
What i have done so far: Visual check, nothing (i was even wearing my glasses). Ran fingernail around looking for a catch, nothing. Got a cotton ball, unrolled it, twisted it up like a weaver would and ran it back a forth through the guides. Idea being the fine threads of cotton should catch in the crack or you should feel a difference if there is a chip. Nothing.
Line was Diawa SW8Braid+Si on Stradic 5000.
Rod is a Diawa HVF Beowulf 601XHFS 6'
Any help would be appreciated.

New deck wash
Submitted by Bryce Day on Sat, 2016-04-02 20:45Finally stuck it on! Sick of the pump ones! Plenty of pressure at 30 knots blows the paint/deckie off at 46 knots, 32mm hose from Clarke rubber did the job. Will take a pic of it in action tomorrow. Hose isn't on in this pic!

Oxygen Theives
Submitted by spinksy on Fri, 2016-04-01 09:06Worked a long day Wednesday got home late unpacked some gear couple of beers quick bite to eat and off to bed. Get awoken at 3am by banging on my bedroom window open the door and a guy is screaming at me me YOUR BOATS ON FIRE.!!
I bolt to the kitchen window as the boat is stored up the side of the house and it was totally ingulfed in flames WTF. I grab a garden hose the next door neighbor grabs his hose and the guy out the front grabbed one at this stage I am thinking my boat is totalled FUCK !! And it was burning the side of the house and roof so I start hosing there and then I thought there is about 180 litres of fuel on board this thing is going to explode and kill us all but I didn't care and just kept hosing.
The fire brigade is two minutes down the road so they were here quickly and took over and with all the smoke I closed the windows and went around the front and the first thing I ask is WTF happened!!! And the guy who banged on the window was there with his partner and they said it was a parachute flare to which I said no way bullshit! they were driving along watching this flare in the sky and watched it go down in the vicinity of my house! Are you fuckin kidding me!!! THen another bloke speaks up and says it was a flare mate I saw it too.. AT this stage I am watching the death of my pride and joy trying to take it all in thinking a flare has dropped from the sky and landed on my boat is this happening!!
They put out the fire saved the house and towed the boat out the front because of the fire risk and by then two more witnesses have rolled up and said they saw the flare too so 4 witnesses now so I am becoming a beleiver in the theory as far fetched as it sounds to me. MY boat had a full boat cover and the flare could only have landed on the front the section between the windscreen and bow rail as anywhere else it would of rolled off and if you look at what is left this area has the most damage. So this area would be 1.5 X 1.5 meters How unlucky am I !!
Now to the oxygen Theif that set the flare off. I live in Merriwa and does anyone know of any crack heads setting off flares in the early hours of Thursday morning??? Please PM me if you hear of anything and and I will keep your details anonymous. Boat is insured with club marine so hope they come to the party now. But she is trashed!!

Round 2 - who wins
Submitted by crasny1 on Thu, 2016-03-31 14:49For me.
Tig's, Port, Melbourne, Nmelbourne,Bullies, Freo, Cats, WCE (I hope), Sydney. But then tipping might be different.
WC at home to hawks - no problems. At MCG - another thing but might be reved up to make a small amend to the GF last yr. Poor Hodge out with a fracture does tip things a little.
Thoughts??
