Took it a bit easier this morning and didn't get to the ramp till 9am. Was greeted by a fresh easterly and a high tide. Headed out towards the south passage and made our way thru without any problems...didn't have to go too far before we started seeing some promising signs on the Furuno.

Things were looking good with a couple of quick hookups but when 2 Norwest blowies surfaced, it was time to move.

Found a really promising spot in 70m and set up a drift. It wasn't long before we had some action with Mrs gates bagging a 5kg Rankin (her first big fish since a baldie at Jurien last Easter) to get on the scoreboard and make the boys jealous. She followed that up with a big sweetlip looking fish about the same size as the Rankin...silvery colouring without any distinctive markings. (nice white flesh when filleted) 

Then I hooked a small shark which went back ok, then we had a visit from 2 sharks just cruising around the boat....with 2 Cobia in tow. We hooked a Cobia and for the next 15mins we played tag trying to get it to the surface without it going under the boat....managed to get it alongside but after some indecision regarding the gaff or the net, the line broke and we were left to wonder what might have been....the Cobia was at least 1.5m long.

I lobbed an unweighted mulie out, just in case, and within a minute I'm on and the reel is screaming. After a short fight, we decked a Mackeral Tuna...my first!

Time to head home and we stopped off near 5 fingers for a quick swim before we hit the ramp and headed home to fillet the catch and clean up.

I thinly sliced some Tuna and dipped it in Soy sauce...yummo. Can't say the others were too excited so I cut up some small medallions of Tuna and lightly pan fried them in butter...they didn't last long so I'm on a winner there.

I guess we'll go and do it all over again tomorrow

 Got another two macks today, had two other decent macks but they were dropped. There still here!!!!!! Photos to come. Headed out to some ground in 110m with skippy,And rat sambos.... Got pinged real bad, boat literally came to. Within5-10 m sounded around, marked it drove off! I got your rego mate! I'll remember that! Happy Easter all! Photos to come.

Thought I'd chuck up my first report. Hit the beach nice and early with the old man, no-one else about for the first hour and a half. Nice and tranquil. Fair bit of weed about but turned out to be fishable. Glad we hung around, had a ball.

Got my first tailor off a metro beach after quite a few attempts. Measured at 35 cm, not big by any stretch but was stoke to get it first up. Fought pretty strongly for something that had hooked itself in the eye!

Threw back about five or six undersize tailor, some smaller herring, a small tarwhine and what I thought was a trumpeter, which happened to be buried in about a tonne of kelp when it got pulled in and lost a few good size fish that didn't care to hang around. Saw some weird eel looking thing lazily hanging around in the seaweed just where the waves broke and then the reel on my 14 ft surf rod carked it, refusing to re-spool properly (is pretty old). All in all an eventful morning.

Gonna hit north Mullalloo next time for something different, after all the herring there last visit.

 Decided I needed to get a little more active so this is what I did this morning.

15 minutes down hill and down wind to the beach.

Second cast and a herring on a small metal slice, much to the disgust of the three blokes that were fishing off Burns Beach mole, who hadn't caught a cracker all morning. 

Had a shot at a couple of good size tailor cruising past with a popper but no interest.

Didn't get to try out my new home made lure though.

Maybe next time.

The trip back home was a bitch (uphill all the way and into the wind.) I am not as young as I used to be.

Ever since I made the holiday accommodation booking 6 months ago, i've been counting down the days till we headed back to Coral Bay....it's been 3 years since our last holiday and we were all eager to return.

This year we've got the bigger boat so that gives us more scope to fish out wide, weather permitting.

After doing the normal pre-holiday maintenance on the boat, outboard and trailer, it was time to pack the boat and Navara for the trip. With most of that done on Thursday night, it was into the back of the Nav with the food stuffs, eskys and our clothes and we hit the road at 8.45am yesterday. Well, half of us did, the other 2 arrive on Monday.

After stopping for fuel at Cataby, then some lunch on the road, it was northward to our next fuel stop at the 440 roadhouse, just north of Geraldton. We made Galena Bridge at 4.45pm, to find it pretty crowded...everyone had the same idea as us.

We found a spot and set up camp, before hitting the swags early as we knew we'd be up early this morning.

In 8 hours on the road Friday, we clocked up 625kms at an average of 78kph and a diesel consumption of 16L/100kms, which isn't bad as we cruised at 105kph in comfort.

A couple of things from our first day: don't stop at the first roadhouse in Cataby as they're 6cpl dearer than the next one a couple of kms up the road. The diesel bowser at the 440 is the one nearest to the highway...we didn't qualify as a truck, to use the other diesel bowsers!!

After tossing and turning most of the night, I'd had enough by 4am so it was time to pack up and hit the road...we pulled out of Galena Bridge at 4.30am and set our sights on being in Coral Bay by lunchtime. 

After stopping for fuel at the Overlander, we passed thru Carnarvon around 9am and stopped for some brekky, before filling up again at Minilya, for the last leg of our trip, arriving in Coral Bay at 11.45am.

Some trivia from today: Billabong roadhouse wasn't open when we went past at 5.45am; Wooramal wasn't open when we went past at 7.30am; couldn't buy any fruit or vegies from the side of the road at Carnarvon and the BP servo on the right hand side of the North West Coastal Highway in Carnarvon is no longer there!!!

On our arrival in Coral Bay, we'd clocked up 1213kms at an average speed of 81kph and a diesel consumption the same as yesterday. We did a quick lap around the marina, to be greeted by flat seas, beautiful torquise water and 38C temperature! We then headed to our holiday house. Arriving ahead of our check-in time was ok, even though the cleaning staff were still there...we unloaded the boat and Nav, before a spot of lunch and a leisurely couple of hours before we headed down to the marina at 3pm, hoping to catch a fish or two for tea.

Headed down past the south passage and fished a couple of bombies and the result was a nice spangly and a golden trevally. Back at the ramp by 5pm and home for fresh fish on the bbq which went down a treat.

Had a quick chat with the fisheries guys at the ramp and all good.

Coral Bay looks to be full to overflowing with holidaymakers....half of Perth must be up here; the other half are probably in Exmouth!

Looking forward to venturing out wide tomorrow.

Its times like these I would like to dis-own one of my children :)

Simon caught this this afternoon off the beach just north of cevanties.

We finally got a chance to get an offshore trip in Wednesday. We took a mate (Muggsy) who has not fished much and had never caught a Red Emperor or a Large Mouth Nannygai (Sadletail Snapper). You can imagine his delight when he got one on the first spot before the sun had even set! Derek got one here too and we also got three trout, a Spangeld Emperor and a sizeable Large Mouth to boot. The boys could have gone home then happy men.

Before the sun had set we had 7 trout in the esky including a 7 kilo Blue Spot that Muggsy nailed to make his day even better.

After dark the sharks and Red Bass gave us heaps with Muggsy landing eight 5 kilo Bass in a row. His next bait then took off with what we all thought was a big shark but he wanted to catch it and persisted destroying himself in the process. It was a good call with a massive GT brought boatside after a sustained battle. I say with a fair amount of confidence this fish was over 35 kilos.




The sharks chased us to another area where we got more large and small mouth nannys plus a cod and a nice little Mangrove Jack to finish off. Final tally was 37 fish which included 7 or 8 large mouth to 6 kilos to go with the two Reds, a bunch of Spangeld Emperor and Long nose. Muggsy has another excuse to come out as he missed out on poppins his Large Mouth cherry but he didn't seem to mind after the fish he caught. Was good to get out

Just a quick thanks to all the guys that made it up for this years comp, unfortunately the weather wasn't the best and the sharks were the worst I've ever seen or heard of.  Regardless of that, some cracking fish were still caught and the prizes were spread amongst the group.  We raised 7 bills for the three days, hooked 4 and lost 2 boatside and managed a few bottomies.  Congrats to all the winners for 2012.

Tailor off the beach this year has been the best for a while, been fishing the north metro beaches and catching some decent size fish, also the odd soapy mulloway and bream, but recently the mullet have moved in and been jagging a few of them lately.

 Just a quick one another 6 hours no fish, but I did see two more mullahs taking one at 430 the other around 730 both between 10-15 kgs. One was released and swam away strongly which was good to see as its what I like to do. Such a beautiful fish don't think I could kill it ( nothing against those of u that do as i have eaten it and liked it and kept plenty of other fish out there ) 

Heading up to Jurien on thursday for four days anybody got any reports or tall tales.

I am heading down to Albany over the next few week just wondering if anyone has any reports on where thay have been hanging around latley????

 Spent two days down at e shed now in total 20 hrs, had one run hahahah but I have decided this Is the week to break the voodoo of the mullaway! There r plenty of slimies around plus the occasional whiting and grunter. Last night a 15kg mulla was caught at around 730pm on a live grunted ( not mone unfortunatly) Nothing else happened after that.

Stay tuned for days three report (it's going to happen this week!! I'm getting this mulla)

Just done 4 days of fishing down south, starting just north of where the Summertime Track hits the beach and fishing up last night doing some redfin/trout fishing on the Warren in Pemberton area.

Salmon were crazy hungry on Saturday, 6 people hooking up on decent sized ones at once was fairly awesome. Lures were a waste of time with the big seas/swell.

Much alcohol was consumed and laughs had with Austrian tourists.

Well after a year or 2 now of talking about it we finally organised a work fishing trip to peaceful bay, the weekend just gone, got down there Friday night about 5:30pm unloaded and headed straight down the beach where we found a nice gutter and got our lines wet, not alot was really happening with a little Bream, herring and a little Pinky caught before we retreated back to the house for a few beers, got up early and on the beach around 5 where Pete was the first to hook up with 2 decent salmon followed by a few salmon trout, and I landed a wobbey measured 133cm, so we called it a morning and headed back, went out the in arvo to a new spot we had found, didn’t produce alot had 2 BIG runs would have been a decent shark but caught a heap of herring, got up early again and back to the gutter where another salmon was landed and a few more salmon trout, weather was good to us with the rain starting to hit as we were heading home, I just can’t wait to hit Cheynes beach this weekend for a few salmon!!

Saturday 31st I had the pleasure of getting back out with my mate Dean (Dirt) on his boat ONSTRIKE, leaving Woodies boat ramp at 5.30am, the plan was to head out wide to the fads, get set up with the big gear and see if we could raise a Marlin. With the highest water temp we could find being around 22.7 degrees we both felt our chances were slim but continued with optimism. It was nice to see ONSTRIKE set up with her outriggers and the teasers and skirts set again, bought back the memories of our trip to Exmouth back in 2008 where I caught my first Marlin. We covered around 40 miles trolling the skirts and no billies, it was time to derig and put the big gear away. Now in almost glassed off conditions and since we were sitting right on the PGF fad we decided to get out the light gear and see if we could hook some Dolphin fish. First cast at the fad with a McArthy Bullhead Minnow Pink/Pearl, a couple of winds of the reel and I was onto my first Dollie. What an awesome fight on the bream gear to see the fish light up in the water, do its arials and to see its mates cruising around with him while hooked, and in close to the boat see another Dolphin fish, slightly bigger, trying to take the soft plastic from its mouth. Unfortunately they went quiet after that. 

So then it was time to put plan two into action and off to the west end of Rotto to see if we could pick up a Mackie or two. Trolled around the west end a couple of times and then around to Parker Point, no luck here either. By this time it was around 4pm and time to put plan three into action.

Off to my favourite Snapper spot in Cockburn Sound and got anchored up. My mate Dean was a bit sceptical of my spot but after about 40 minutes he had his first fish on, which when he got up to the boat, turned out to be a nice sized gummy shark. Dean rebaited and set his line again while I was processing the gummy shark, next thing he was on again, this time showing definite head shake on the rod tip, and eventually bringing in a 60cm plus Pinky to the net. It didn't seem that long before he had his next fish on. This fish was giving him some stick, big runs and big head shakes and really testing out the light gear he was using. Finally though a cracking 85cm Pinky surfaced alongside the boat much to his surprise. Unfortunately i had no luck with the Pinkys but the thrill of my day was to boat my first Dolly. It was a big day in that we got to do 4 different styles of our favourite fishing.

1. Just got back tonight after living the dream in Exmouth for eight days. The weather was perfect the fishing was better. The fish caught were Spangled Emperor, Coronation Trout, Estuary Cod ,Blue Bone, Spanish Mackarel and assorted Snappers. We had 3 people fishing to feed 11 so just a few mackarel fillets for the freezer. The only bummer for the trip was I went to Exmouth 49 and came back 50. The house we rented through Ray White was clean and exactly as described. 

Just a warning to anyone coming to Kalbarri for Easter and expecting great fishing. Unless things change, don't expect very much. Have been here 3 days, fished baits, lures and poppers every morning and arvo. Fished red Bluff, blue holes,'the creek", and the river mouth. Nothing!!! Plenty of very small bream & dart around for kids though.

spoke to a bloke this morning that comes here for a week, two weeks before Easter for the last 30 years, got here last Sunday, and got his 1st fish this morning ( saturday). Spoke to another long time regular, and is having worst trip ever. heard the boaiets haven't been doing much better.

Very dissappointing given the reputation of the place. Will kepp trying a couple more days, as i know it can all change with the weather, but not optimistic at present.

 Sorry to rant and rave on here, I'm fishing down at the e shed and I'm so disgusted in what I have just seen!One kid and two blokes caught a stingray cut its tail off stabbed it a dozen times and threw it back in. Some people do not deserve the right to fish it gets my blood boiling. I mean why would u do that it makes no logical sense other then been a complete knob head!!!!!!

Had the good fortune to be invited by a client for a fish with Whitey yesterday. The fishing was pretty spectacular and the weather gods were kind to me for once with a smooth ocean for at least the first 4 hours of the trip. Plenty of fish were taken on jigs and bait.The bigger pinks were taken on jigs as were,black arse,Sambos,AJ's,Mulla's,Dhu's,sweetlips,flatheads to 65cm and macks.With all the macks around yesterday was a little expensive for me with a bundle lost to toothys.Whitey and the deckie brett were lucky enough to snag a couple on tail assisted jigs.Whitey was also unfourtunate to have the hooks pull on what felt like the biggest Dhu in history and Brett scored a nice 13.6kg fish towards the end of the day.

Went out with mate and brother to look for some new spots on Sat out past ffb, sounding around in 40ish ground...

Found a couple of small spots holding fish, so small that we probably wouldnt have even noticed the change in ground if the sounder wasnt lighting up with fish, causing closer inspection of the ground.

We pulled up; sgt baker, dhuies (4 caught, 2 kept, biggest pictured about 7-8kg?), scorpion fish, sambos (baby up to 10ish kg), variety of wrasse, lots of skippy, lots of small pinkies.

Fished baits mainly (squid and mulie) but also threw some plastics without a lot of success.

Weather was rougher than expected in the morning but by 11 was pretty much as good as it gets.

Baby brother (green shirt) got into his first sambo, and first dhuie. Before Saturday his biggest catch was a 35cm skippy land-based, so needless to say he enjoyed himself. Now that I've taught him to pump and wind, I just need to teach him how to hold a dhuie haha, always copping awkward poses for photos.

Was suprised most of the good fish were taken in the afternoon.

4 anglers from Singapore, having the best 3 SOLID HOLIDAY DAYS of their time with me in Thailand.  We have  2 DAYS visit to the pay ponds (Barramundi pond and IT Monsters lake) and 1 DAY expereince  of their lifetime to the wild sebarrau (jungle perch) fishing in Thailand......

Though all are newbies when come to wild fishing in Thailand.
Under my guidance and good planning, the 1 DAY wild trip turned out to be EVEN BETTER than those pay ponds/ stock ponds whatever you call them. haha !!! ;)

DAY 1- Wild fishing trip.....

DAY 2- IT Monsters lake- 60kg Arapaima landed on rubber jig head lure.....(The feeling is 100 X much better than baiting)

DAY 3- Barramundi pond.....

Went out fishing with a couple of mates last sunday and had a great day... we took two boats and found some good ground early in they day where the first couple of drops produced 3 size dhuies and one of them possibly about 10kg... We then went out a bit further and in around 60-70m of water were able to get on to some pink snapper 1 size 1 under and another dhuie under all appeared to release well I hope. I then got a massive pull and my TLD20 with 50lb braid started taking line... half an hour later and with shaky arms I pulled a 1.5m shark up to the boat, needless to say no-one was keen to pull him up on to my 5m trailcraft deck so we cut him off, It a shame I ddint think to take a picture at the time. All up we got 1 Pinky, 4 Dhuies (2 per boat), 2 Baldies, 1 Queeny & 1 Fox Fish Keepers I think thwere was a blackass aswell cant remember... I am still yet to catch my firts dhuie but after being a part of all that I cant wait...

Landed this massive 7.80KG  monster single toman on sight casting on my Evergreen crankbaits..... So long never have this kind of good fights with monster size toman. Love the toman  fast speed and ferious attack on my lure....

Firstly thanks to all forum members who helped me out prior to trip with info relating to Ono Island.

On arrival at Kadavu airport we were met by Sim and Lee both staff for the Oneta Resort departing the airport we were expecting to board one of the many vehicles in the car park, no we walked past them(the first of many miss interperations for the trip)and through the beach front to the boat awaiting us what a magic view standing on the beach i knew our adventure had truely begun.

The Host Piero Piva greeted us on arrival at Oneta Resort Ono Island and discussed the resort and fishing we were all excited for a fish but would have to wait for the following day what an amazing location and great host and staff.

I must ad the meals prepared and cooked are of the highest quality with our first meal served that evening everyone one was under the impression we were eating a chicken curry only to be told by Piero it was fish.

Our first day was spent on the western side of the island due to strong easterly winds chasing red bass and what ever else was around it was a great day with many fish captured and released and quite a bit of hardware left behind due to the attacks from the red bass.

The largest fish for the day would hve been a big flowery cod estimated at 15+KG.Jigging the drop off accounted for tea with Coronation and Coral trout coming on board.

Second day was spent in the lagoon and western side again due to the easterly wind the flats fishing was amazing with blue fin trevally lighting up as they attacked lures truly memorable.So many species of fish hard to keep track!Back to the resort for a masssage and Fiji Bitter.

Day three would see the wind debate giving us access to the main eastern side reef system which we were all awaiting to have a crack at.The bommies and reefs edge give little room for era while on my second cast with a black fisherman long pen with Sim casting alongside me on the second pop of this lure it was consumed into a massive boil created by a big GT within seconds he had busted me off on the nearest bommie leaving me in a state of shock hands shacking at what had just taken place and Sim reminding me BIG GT.It would not be the last time that this would happen that day truly amazing memories of a fish so powerful and adapt to its enviroment.

Day four came around to quickly with the weather still fine we proceeded to the western side and planned to work all the way wround to the eastern side of the reef .The fishing was slow for whatever reason.So we decided to stop and free dive the shallows what a memorable experiance.The fish for the day was a big barracuda which completely smashed my aswb stickbait taking it and itself out of the water completely.

Day five was by far the best day a complete glass off we found an area where we had bait swell and current and it was game on.IMO it is funny how you remember the missed fish more than the captured ones.Piero and i watched as a big GT approched a popper at a million miles an hour to stop short follow it at a distance then peel off and away.I had three massive boils from a large GT that shot my stick bait into the air but still not connecting with the barbless hooks.We caught some nice fish that daay in excellent conditions.

Lures used were Fisherman,Craftbait,Nature Boy Surfish Tuna,ASWB the stand out lure for the trip was the ASWB120SS stick bait in black.

Rods Carpenter CV79/40 Yamaga Blue Sniper 80/5.

Reals Daiwa 2010 6500H Shimano SW Stella 5000.

Line Varivas Avani GT PE 8 & PE 5.  

The stickbaits were more productive during the five days than poppers we always had both in action on the boat till which ever one prevailed stand out colour was black with silver wings.

I can strongly recommend to any one this adventure it has so much more to offer than just fishing.The scenery both above and below the water line a massage after a hard days casting the food and accomadation the polite staff.I know i will be back. 

Caught 7 nice sized tailor, heaps of herring and whiting around preston beach last night from the beach. Wanted to stay out and try for mulloway but the wind picked up and sinkers couldn't hold buttom.

Seemed to have to work for them a bit more, didn't start catching until around 8pm.

Another magic day up here, couldn't find a deckie so went solo with a late start.  Didn't even get to feel the sinker on the bottom before the first ruby was on, second drop was a nice pinky, third drop a good ruby which was sharked and it was time to move on.  Tried a few other areas for a decent amberjack, loads of spanglies etc etc.  Checked out all my spots (trolled over them with no luck) as its been a long time since they've been fished with tantas out of action.  Ended up back at the goldband spot just to fill the bag with some more tasties.  Got busted up by 2 solid trout just outside the passage before heading in.  Good day out there.

Went to Hill River on the weekend for my mates 30th birthday.

We were glad to see great conditions and set up for some fishing and drinking .

Over all there were not many fish caught , some Tailor and Herring with the usual 6 or more rays . Sorry there are not many fish pictures but my nephew got his first Tailor and a few more .

I did have a balloon out all weekend but no hit's. We caught a few unusual fish as well, Sand Bass , Spider Crab ( pic on another post ) and what looked like baby Threadfin salmon ( sory no pic ) I saw one posted on here not long ago and was exactly the same.
