shimano raider rod
Submitted by Plug on Thu, 2016-01-28 12:00Hi
I have an Ian miller raider travel rod 2-4kg 7ft 3" and the midde section just below where it connects to the top piece breaks. I am on my second rod due to this.
I was wondering if any one else has had problems.
The photo isn't very clear but a small piece goes above the broken piece.

Former Iraq Vet Intervention with Fishermen crab pot fishing
Submitted by Karak on Wed, 2016-01-27 19:23
A FORMER high-ranking army officer who commanded 110 troops during the Iraq war is under police investigation following a violent melee with up to nine fishermen on a Surf Coast beach.
Kyle Tyrrell is being probed after a fight with the men who he alleges were crab-pot fishing along Cosy Corner beach at Torquay on Sunday.
Mr Tyrrell, 47, sustained minor injuries in the brawl, in which he claims his wife was also punched to the face, but the martial arts expert inflicted serious injuries on at least one of the alleged assailants, who was taken to hospital by ambulance.
No charges have been laid and police inquiries continue.

Rod Advice
Submitted by Tradewind on Wed, 2016-01-27 15:44Looking for some feedback on choosing a new rod
I'm looking to pair a Stradic 5k with 30lb PE2 Braid to a Rod anywhere from 6 - 7.5 foot that I can use on a boat to cast at Tuna schools or for Dollies that's got a decent cast range and strength if I hook into larger models
I'd prefer PE 1 - 3 rod so I can fit on the Stradic 4k with PE1 for tailor to flick around shores or when pulling up to a reef
If it can be used to Jig as well great, if not it's not a deal breaker
Price range up to about $350
So far i've seen the Terez 7'2 10lb - 30lb with Fast, and an X-Fast action but i'm unsure how good the casting is with that rod using PE2 with lighter Stickbaits or Twisties
Enlighten me! =)

Knife Range - Members Input Requested
Submitted by Mick C on Mon, 2016-01-25 21:23Members,
As discussed previously, we are seeking to display and sell quality fishing knives. These will not be your general use knives, rather the razor sharp blade to fillet your quality fish. They should last a very long time if you look after them.
I have spent many days talking to good fishermen, talking to knife experts, conducting independent research and dealing with suppliers to try and pick the range that people would want and value. I have our final draft range and would like to run it by you, knowledgeable FW Members, as a final check. Have I missed a style? Are the lengths appropriate? Should some products be deleted? Should some products be added?
It is quite an investment to put these products on display so we must find the balance between what people generally want and what we stock (there are so many options). Set out below is our final draft selection, with some commentary. I would really appreciate any comments you may have.
We will be able to beat or match prices for these goods from any retail outlet, plus you can look at the selection in one place. We will release pricing when the list is finalised and the shop opens.
Thanks.
Mick
Victorinox 15cm Curved Boning Knife – Thin

This is my favourite knife. The only drawback is that is sometimes too small.
Victorinox 15cm Curved Boning Knife - Thick

A little more “power” with the thicker blade.
Victorinox 15cm Straight Boning Knife
Victorinox 12cm Straight Boning Knife
Victorinox 9cm Straight Boning Knife

The straight boning knife range comes with various blade lengths. The blade is rigid and the length difference allows many applications.
Victorinox 18cm Boning and Sticking Knife

A solid “combination” medium knife.
Swibo 17cm Skinning Knife
Swibo 21cm Skinning Knife
This is a knife style that a lot of people like. A quality big fish filleting knife. Sorry, no current image and it may have been discontinued after Victorinox purchased Swibo – will update following advice.
Carnivore 21cm Curved Filleting Knife

This is a cheaper option medium fish filleting knife.
Victorinox 20cm Straight Filleting Knife
Victorinox 16cm Straight Filleting Knife

The classic fish filleting and skinning knife with a flexible blade.
Dexter 20cm Straight Filleting Knife with Scabbard

Another option for a straight filleting knife with a matching scabbard that the knife will lock into. If any Members know local leather workers that could produce good quality scabbards for the knife range, please let me know.
Victorinox 20cm Scimiter Knife
Victorinox 25cm Scimiter Knife

Large slicing knife with numerous fishing applications.
Victorinox 25cm Bullnose Knife – Thick

Victorinox 18cm Bullnose Knife – Thin

Bullnose “heavy duty” knives with thick and thin blade styles.
There are also a number of options for knife storage and sharpening. Any comments on the below list would also be appreciated as well.
Carnivore Knife Roll
F Dick Tool Case
Victorinox Knife Safe
F Dick 60cm Magnetic Knife Rack
EZI LAP 200mm x 50mm Diamond Sharpening Plate
EZI LAP 26cm Diamond Sharpening Steel
Victorinox 30cm Medium Cut Round Steel
F Dick 30cm Dual Cut Round Steel

Breaking waves?
Submitted by Hazzadazzlaa on Sun, 2016-01-24 22:12Hey guys,
I was wondering if 3 mile out of hillarys actually breaks in water around the 10m mark or even deeper?. If so what swell size and period would i need to watch out for.
What im trying to achieve is to sit out around the 10m to 20m deep water approx 3 mile out of hillarys and hoping not to get caught by a sneaker set. Happy for private pm on where i might search for my first size dhui on me little 4.2m.
i have navionics both on my phone and fishfinder and would not attempt on bigger than 1.5m swell. any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Harry

Fishing Metro South vs North river by Boat
Submitted by Jason P on Sat, 2016-01-23 17:35Got to thinking on people's thoughts on fishing the Metro area South vs North of the river by Boat.
As my usual launch point is from Woodies, and on rare occasions Rockingham.
Woodies is like 3km from my house so it's just so easy and convenient but have never launched from any Northern metro ramps
So is there any benefit that North has over a South that would make it worth while a trip?
