Keeping crabs alive? (Bait)
Submitted by sackshaker on Wed, 2016-02-03 14:46Hi guys can anyone tell me there best way of keeping crabs alive overnight for bait? You know the type that run along the beach at night and burrow into the sand. They dont spend much time under water so im thinking an aerated bucket is NO GOOD?
I have called fisheries to make sure im able to collect them.

New sounder
Submitted by striker on Tue, 2016-02-02 20:29Looking at a new sounder , old boat had the foruno 585 with tm260 transducer and was a gem.
So with new (second hand) boat can't afford the 295 but was wondering
about the 587 or 588 is the $500 difference justified?
And what transducer a 1kw obviously would be the go?

New Member
Submitted by cost-a-plenty on Tue, 2016-02-02 20:12Thanks for adding me to this forum, so far everyone sounds like a great group of people. I just relocated to Perth from Victoria 6 months ago and bought my first boat Yesterday very exited to go out. I read in a fishing magazine and here that Perth have "FADS" deployed behind Rottnest somewhere.
My Google search took me to Jurien Bay to far for me want to explore Perth a bit. If anyone is able to direct me into the right direction where to find their positions/detail or maybe who to contact anywhere I will appreciate your help. All the Best.

Waypoints
Submitted by Deckie on Mon, 2016-02-01 19:36Hi folks, just like to know if you enter your waypoints directly into the plotter or via the laptop/PC.
If you do it via laptop/PC, is there a program you use with the SD card in or plot them on a chart & download them to the card.
Any advice to a newby is greatly appreciated.

FW Members' Comments Produce the Result(s)
Submitted by Mick C on Mon, 2016-02-01 19:35In a previous “update” post (http://fishwrecked.com/forum/shore-catch-update), I showed an image of the newly installed graphics on our shop front. I think most people liked them but there were very valid comments about the appearance of the general building and the need to improve what was there. Luckily I had written some special clauses into our lease regarding the building façade.
The Members' input enabled me to stress the importance of the works in a letter of demand where I could actually quote some comments directly. To his credit, the landlord has taken it all on board and the Strata management company will rectify. The image below is of initial painting works but there is still building works to fix damaged soffits, tree removal and/or pruning, pylon sign repair and refurbishment and general garden maintenance. All of this is being done at the moment too! A lot has been achieved due to some well-founded comments from Members, thanks all.

Whilst on Members comments, I really appreciated the knowledgeable stuff that came out of the knife post (http://fishwrecked.com/forum/knife-range-members-input-requested). I got so much value out what was said I could finalise our initial order and it will arrive soon. We can’t hold all stock types, but we can order what anyone really wants.
We will open soon. It has been a large undertaking but set-up is close to completion. Members input has really helped us with the “journey”, and the investment in FW sponsorship (Adam doesn’t delete my commercial type request for information posts) has been money very well spent.

Poor Man's Exxy Trip
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Mon, 2016-02-01 09:54I have 10 weeks of LSL left to use up in the next 18 months but with my Wife at work 3 days/week I am basically a stay at home dad for most of it so going to work in a fishing trip and head away for a week for some serious fishing.
My tow vehicle is a work vehicle and I can only go as far as Kalbarri or Esperance so I am looking at spots to do a ‘poor man’s’ Exxy trip. My boat is a 5m Seafarer and the vehicle is a 2WD so I need access to concrete boat ramps and preferably one with a jetty.
The three places I am looking at are Jurien, Leeman and Greenhead. I’ve been to Jurien so I know what to expect there town wise but no idea when it comes to fishing. Looking at the map Jurien looks like it offers the most protected area and Greenhead offers some protection and it is only a short drive by boat to the ground off Leeman and has a long jetty so I’d probably be leaning more to one of those two towns.
Please feel free to hit me up with your experiences fishing each of those towns and offer me any other suggestions I haven’t thought of as this trip is an open book at the moment.

44 gal drum for fuel transport
Submitted by roddo on Sun, 2016-01-31 18:24Hi all
Does anyone use a 44 gal drum on the boat for extended trips?
Im planning for the monties trip in a few months and trying to sort out how to carry all the extra fuel i was going to get another fuel tank built under the floor but i very much doubt i would use it again so not keen on outlaying the cash for it. And 25 jerries will be ugly on the boat.
So im thinking of taking 1x 44 gal drum as i recon we will use 200l getting over there so empty it as soon as we are there and then the rest in jerries.
Whats your thoughts??
Cheers
Rod

Can pro fishermen take Tailor in nets
Submitted by beachsoul on Sun, 2016-01-31 17:06Where I like to fish their have been some tight schools of good sized Tailor. Some Pro fisherman came along a while ago and threw a net around a whole school of fish
and dragged them in I was devestated thinking that it was a big school of Tailor !!!! But thank god!!!! LOL ing They were Buff bream which they released unharmed.
Would they have just let Tailor go too
Are they allowed to take and sell Tailor commercially.
Should they be able to do so.
Is it even financially worth doing so.
My thinking is that commercially they are of such low value that they are worthless to sell. Yet recreationally they are one of our highly valuable species.
If anyone knows the answers I would love to know.....
What are your opinions on them taking Tailor.

Exmouth Marlin
Submitted by Glen.vit on Sun, 2016-01-31 15:06with the forecast looking good and being on break, Just wondering if the small blacks are thick at the inshore grounds in Exmouth at the moment? don't have big enough gear for the blues unfortunately.. so I would settle for the smaller stuff. also do you think with that cyclone that it would make the water dirty??

Need help choosing Hydraulic Steering Kit
Submitted by TGMitchell on Sat, 2016-01-30 00:47
Hi
I've got an old fibreglass 5.5m with an old Mercury 90hp (1986 I think) on it - motor is fine but steering is seized, cables are no good and helm is busted - So I want to replace with a DIY hydraulic kit . Seen a few on ebay but I'm a bit at a loss as to what to get - don't want to spend too much.
Any ideas anyone?

Carnarvon bread and butter fish
Submitted by steve434 on Fri, 2016-01-29 17:12Hello all,
Hopefully in a manner of weeks I'll be moving the family to Carnarvon. I'll be bringing up a boat and I'm keen to get into some serious fishing. In saying that, I've read around the forums from this site and I have a fair understanding of what the conditions and fishing will be like offshore. What I can't find information on is the fishing inshore like spots that are good to go with the kids on a day that's not great to head offshore.
Can anyone tell me if any bread and butter type fish are caught in the river before hitting the ocean or around the canals? Also the crabs, are they cauht around the canals etc.
Cheers
Steve

Submitted by Cobbs on Fri, 2016-01-29 14:48Hey guys , just trying to find anyone's experiences or opinions on motors- Iv got a 5 mtr quinny coast runner with a 90 Johno 2 stroke and looking at trading in on a 4 stroke or etec. My budget is around the 12000$ and so far after getting prices the 70 Suzuki and the 75 etec seem to look like best value for money??
the yammy 70 hours Iv been told is under powered and does have a few more hidden cost that bumps the price up, any advice on motors for my boat would be greatly appreciated
