Tournament 2250 Walkaround Help
Submitted by A-SALT-WEAPON on Sun, 2014-04-06 22:16I need some help with trying to track one down and someone who ownes a 2250 walkaround tournament in Perth, there's no more dealers in Perth so i cant look at one. I'd like to buy one but there all over East. I've looked over the mustang 2250 its seems like a nice boat. They changed to tournament now haines group make them. I believe there's one in the boat storage in Freo next to little creatures. Has anyone been fishing in one and are they any good. I'm suprised there not a bit more popular as the walkaround section seems awsome for a fibre glass boat. Any reviews would be appreciated and if i could look at one would even better.

Mulloway?
Submitted by BoozeFishSnooze on Sat, 2014-04-05 21:22Hey guys just a few questions about mulloway. When they are interested in your bait do they stay there for awhile looking and playing with it? And would a mulloway be able to bite a herring roughly in half? I had a livie out the other day and all i saw was the rod bouncing from the livie puckering up then slack (I was using a 2 hook rig with a hook behind the head and one around the tail area why I missed a hook up I have no idea) and the night before that I was chucking out livies at the body was getting bittenfrom the body up to just behind the head pretty cleanly would that have been a shark or mully? And every time unlike what I've seen from rays there isnt a semi circle type of chunk its just clean through bar the herring that got bit in half that one was a little messy. And I hope that boltcutters cant/wouldnt do that haha, also I've put a picture of the herring that got bitten in half as an attatchment (atleast I hope it's worked)
Cheers, Shaun.

Palm Beach Crabs and Fishing
Submitted by lachieH on Sat, 2014-04-05 16:22Hi Everyone,
Heading down to Palm Beach jetty in a couple weeks to try and get a feed of crabs and hopefully some tailor. I have looked on previous posts and know that it may not be the best fishing. I have been there before and seen people going for squid, seen bream and tailor being caught and heaps of crabs were caught. Also is it worth bringing down some squid jigs? Going to bring a drop net for the crabs, put in some mullet head or the cheapest fillet of steak that I can find.
On the tailor side of things, I will use a gang of 4 size 3/0 hooks with a whole mulie baited on. should I put a sinker or floater on the rig for the jetty? When casting out should I just leave it or reel it on slowly? If the bait doesnt work I will put a gold Halco twisty on and see how it goes. Is it worth putting down some small baits fir jetty fish.
I will not use a surf/beach rod, I will use a 7.6 foot with a size 4000 reel, also I will use a small bream rod for the jetty fish.
As I said I have used the search tool.
Lachie

Stung by a stonefish?
Submitted by pale ale on Sat, 2014-04-05 11:19Was walking in a rock pool at Cleaverville and something spiked me through my boot.
Took the boot off and there was a puncture wound in my middle toe. Pain was steadilly increasing, and luckily had my missus to drive me back to Karratha.
Whilst driving I had thoughts of "am I gonna die" "should I stop and get hot water water out of the radiator" while being crippled with intense pain.
Anyway, started googling stonefish on my phone and did not get much information. Got home and put my foot in an esky of hot water and the pain started to ease.
I rang the hospital and they refused to give me advice, but gave me an emergency information number to call. The emergency hotline were more interested in asking irrelevant questions than giving me advice, and their only suggestion was to visit a hospital within 4 hours.
Anyway, after about an hour in the hot water, another 6 beers and a couple glasses of wine the pain was down to about 20% of the initial pain, so I decided to give up the hot water treatment and cook a BBQ.
Went to bed and woke up the next morning feeling quite normal, just a puncture wound in my toe which hurts when the kids or dog step on it.
So..... was it a stonefish? What else would puncture my reef boots and inflict such chronic pain on me? Is it possible the rubber sole on the reef boots "wiped away" the majority of the poison.
Has anyone stepped on a stonefish or other evil bastard reef creature?

New avet reel
Submitted by psion on Fri, 2014-04-04 10:12Holy Cr-p
Guess we have just gone from the sublime to the ridiculous.
The new Avet reels
they have a 3 speed!
and 2 speed 50 reel that has a strike drag of 100 lbs, and a max drag of 116 lbs!!!!!!!!!
well there are now 2 more things in life i'm scared of:
1\ the guy who can effectively hold a rod with 116 lb drag screaming in his ear
2\ The fish on the other end pulling that drag.
I don't want to meet eithert
I guess you make a reel like this, only because you can.

castle rock rubbish
Submitted by Sunburntfeet on Thu, 2014-04-03 19:46Went down to castle rock after work today to throw some lures around, pretty quiet, saw 1 school of about 1/2 a dozen fish but couldn't tempt them. Still, a pretty relaxin arvo. Until I started making my way back across the rocks, the amount of rubbish left there was fucking disgraceful! I picked up 2 Coles bags full of everything from empty cans and bottles to lure packets, bait bags and chip packets. There are rubbish bins in the car park, which is where you have to go to get home. How hard is it to take your crap with you!

Jigging Dhufish
Submitted by Rhys Burton on Thu, 2014-04-03 13:48Been getting a good amount of Dhuie's lately. loving the jigs, The Samaki choona and Vexed fat pitch 100-150g have been the go to jig and adding a skirt on the assist's is attracting a lot more action. All the credit goes to the skipper, Trent who has been putting in the hard yards and producing the goods. putting me onto ripper fish.

Latest suspected shark attack at Mandurah
Submitted by dragrush on Wed, 2014-04-02 22:43Just read about the police finding the missing diver off Mandurah which was about 6 km offshore and it is close to where a lot of fishing and diving activity takes place. Unfortunately -- I think the recent culling issue has been a red herring in that people should still realise that sharks do not read maps or know the boundaries of where we don't want them to be.
Just because they have put down setlines off some beaches near Perth but it begs the question as to what will the Govt. do now --- will they add another set of lines down at Mandurah to reassure divers that all will be well if they do this..
I regularly fish the general area where the suspected attack occurred and over the last 4 months I have personally seen a big white pointer shark about 4.5 metres follow a hooked fish back to my boat and the last one I saw was about 2 weeks ago and it was a tiger shark about 3 metres that just surfaced about 20 metres from the boat. Circled the boat 2 or 3 times and disappeared .
People should realise that they are likely to be anywhere as they are hunting for food and nowwhere is safe in the ocean.
My sincere sympathy goes to the diver's family and friends ----- I hope they can accept his passing as an unfortunate encounter with one of nature's marine creatures.

another closure
Submitted by Maverick on Wed, 2014-04-02 20:18CLOSURE OF DEWARS TRACK TO 4WD’S
Members may not be aware that the City of Wanneroo has made a sudden decision to close Dewar’s track.
For many years the track has been open to 4WD’s and runs past great fishing and camping beached.
The City of Wanneroo recently made a sudden decision to temporarily close the track and will decide tomorrow (1 April, 2014) whether to make the closure permanent.
With no reasonable rationale for this action, it appears to be another case of “locking it up and locking it away” from legitimate 4WD enthusiasts.
Should you wish to support the 4WD’ers, join Rick Mazza MLC, Shooters and Fishers Party who will be at the City of Wanneroo, 23 Dundebar Road, Wanneroo to back a delegation against the closure at 6pm tomorrow, 1 April 2014.
