Weekend
Submitted by Swompa on Mon, 2014-04-14 10:23Well i managed to score another friday out of the office and went for a fish with my old boy. It was basically a copy and paste day of last Friday with light/moderate north easterly's.
Out of Woodmans Point at about 9 ish and after a quick drift over some weed and play with jiggs after watching birds working, we headed to Mewstone. We came across a big school of Herring and put the pick in. After catching a feed at a fish per cast, and watching a sambo charge at one of my herring, Dad started playing on the bottom (in 4m of water), and i was flicking around for Tailer.
Two skippy, a siver bream, and a rat sambo were landed over the next 20 minutes, and that on top of 13 herring, we had our feed. We proceeded to put (at about 25 knots) over to Stragglers and went through the reef (only spots you could go in no swell and an easterly breeze) and found more and more herring.
We decided to head across to Carnac for a feed but came across a big bait ball at The Roarers, with YTK's hitting it once or twice. After not even getting a look (you could see the fish), we headed over to Carnac and sat on 29/30 knots all the way home again. Whole day out on 16l of Fuel.
On Sunday we were back out again, this time to have a dive at Rotto. Parked at Leeuwin and headed out. The swell made my usual spot (in 3m) a bit murkey, so we went to another spot. Never seen so many crays in my life, but they were very skittish. Ended up with 9 for the day with two tarred girlies which went back. Once again, my jumbo spot in Thompsons bay
Ended up with 6 keepes.
Funnily enough, it was the weekend that i christened my Xtreme cooler and picked up more produce than in the last two years combined.

Little sh$&s part 2
Submitted by cell on Mon, 2014-04-14 07:58Hi guys as most of you know I got broken into in January on Aussie day wk end, all my fishing gear stolen, now I have sorted my gear out again slowly thanks to the help of a bunch of good fellas on here, anyway me missus and kids plus my father inlaw n his family decided to go for a fish last night, we went to Pinaroo point north of hillaries the weather was awesome slight breeze and yeah beautiful weather, after a few hours of fishing for half a doz nice herring my lil bro in law started to pack up, he comes running back from car yellin my name out and what's happened the little shi$s decided to smash my quarter glass they took my handheld led spotlight which was there since my hands were full otherwise I would have taken in down in case we got a decent fish n needed light. They also stole my CDs, all this and all I can say is what is wrong with people Hillaries is by no means a lower class suburb and since we are on school holidays how the hell can we go out for family fun if every time we go something happens. The gov need to think about this and open a few more beaches up so I can park my car next to me I'm over this sh$t my car must have a invisible sign to me but visible to thieves that say this car is free for break in.
Anyway even though I got done over they never touched my father in laws car which was right in front of me.
so yeah now that I have finished my minor rave stay tuned because little sh$ts part 3 can't be far away
Cheers cell

exmouth cray fishing?
Submitted by niloc1984 on Sun, 2014-04-13 20:19Im heading up to Exmouth for the easter break and have a couple of cray pots packed in the boat but cant seem to find any info?
1 Is it worth me taking them? My plan was to leave Tantabiddi in the morning and drop them just outside the reef then check/move them each day?
An advice on using pots up there would be great as I have no experience in cray fishing or Exmouth!
Thanks for your time guys

Somebody is gonna get hurt one day
Submitted by jebuggy on Sun, 2014-04-13 19:54I have seen it for years now but today I seen it all. We were fishing landbased for salmon at Eagle Bay. There were boats everywhere with keen landbased fishos at every point and every beach waiting patiently for fish to swim past. Why do so many skippers need to drive so close to shore to spoil it for the lb fishos. I have written a post in salmon thread with my run in with them today(please read if interested) but this thread is about what I seen today by others.
First of all I do not condone what your about to read. A group of Landbased fishos were so frustrated with the dickhead boaties that they were casting sinkers at the boats. If one of those sinkers hits someone in the head there will be a possible death. Nobody wants this but imagine when this happens.
Why do boaties show no consideration for lb fishos? What are the laws with driving boats near coastline? Why would you bother with salmon off your boats anyway. If you want to catch salmon why not do it landbased it's so much more satisfying. I do own a boat but am not interested in catching Salmon in it.
What's everyone else's opinion on this. I would especially like to hear from boaties who do this and what they have to say. I am not saying all boaties do this but there are a lot who do and you know who you are. I reckon I would have seen over 100 boats today within casting range of a star sinker for someone with a good cast.
looking forward to hearing people opinions on this one

Fishfinders
Submitted by Tim1511 on Sun, 2014-04-13 19:07Hey guys I am looking at buying a new fishfinder and 2 caught my attention for a cheap price the garmin350c and the lowrance elite 5x HDi fishfinder. I was wondering which one is better in all ways I will be using it for only about 60 m of water tops for locating reef, caves and structure an also locating demersals and are they good and do they work for an internal transducer ?

Asari trace
Submitted by Shortylook on Sun, 2014-04-13 14:32Not sure if anyone here has used this trace, but I got a roll the other day and I think it's absolute crap. One of the hardest traces to tie rigs with. Won't be using this stuff again
Dhuie on the bait rig
Submitted by C.P on Sun, 2014-04-13 14:26What a beautiful morning on the water. Three Dhuies - two were under size. Biggest one only 55 CM but caught on a 6 KG outfit on a size 1 hook. The light rig was there to catch some wrasse to use as bait for a Dhuie. Thats fishing for you. Gave me a bloody good fight. The little hook had loged firmly in the fish's lip & took some manouvering to get it out. You wonder some times why you spend so much money on quality specialised gear.

What online tackle website
Submitted by trymyluck on Sun, 2014-04-13 12:24Hi all, Just wondering what online tackle site do use and recommend. I have only used Mo Tackle and Alpine Angler in the past with no issues. Are there better ones, not just looking for the cheapest, as reliability is security is also important. thanks

Need some reasurance!
Submitted by Dirt on Sun, 2014-04-13 10:02 Hey guys, I have been Demersal jigging outright for two years now, ( no bait on the boat ) have had a lot of ups and down with some amazing captures including 2 x 20kg dhuies in 2 drifts , best day ever, I seem to of had a bit of a dry spell of late with not a lot of fish being caught from our last few trips, yesterday I covered about 110 mile and fished nearly all my regular dhuie spots south of mandurah . Lots of them had really good signs of fish , better than normal but nothing biting, couldn't believe it. Starting to doubt myself and thinking I'm doing something wrong even though I'm still doing it the same way as I always have. First time in two years I thought to myself maybe I should take out one bait rod to improve my catch rate,I want to avoid this as I'm really enjoying just heading out with one light pe3 outfit and a wallet full of jigs but burning a lot of fuel and not putting any fish in the freezer is getting a bit frustrating. Let me quickly say that I don't fish to fill the freezer but a couple of nice fish every couple of trips makes it that much more rewarding, Anyone having the same issues or have discovered any new tips they want to share I would appreciate you letting me know

Exmouth in June
Submitted by Johnnytheone on Sun, 2014-04-13 08:34G'day all, this is my first post. I'm planning a trip to Exmouth in June, but I've never been there at that particular time. What is the prevailing opinion on billfish and pelagic availability during that month. In addition when we've fished there in May, we've picked up a few decent sailfish on marlin lures. I've often wondered if they are bit of a "by-catch" as I think you'd get more sails on garfish than lures. Does anyone run more baits than lures for billfish generally up there, and if so do you get more sails, as opposed to the odd one on a lure.
Thanks in advance, John
