More from the S-Bend Weekend
Submitted by UncutTriggerInWA on Tue, 2010-10-05 19:47This weekend was set aside for a trip to the S-Bend. Something I do as often as I can afford the time and money as this is prime country and somewhere I have frequented for 40 years or so as a GSHS student initially and then as a suburban "bogan" in the last few years.
I travelled alone (Chockie my dog came of course). On the way up I decided to try out the new Indean Ocean Drive. It was an exceptional experience. The road is great and not much left to be done up at the Cervantes end. Bitumen roads into Wedge Island and Grey. The scenery on that route is just fantasic and in some instances you are greated with gorgeous sea views. This is a potential road kill route so I would not really look forward to an night drive. My car doesn't like too much blood and my bull bar would make some pretty sad cases of the local wildlife.
Conditions up there were tough to say the least. Winds tended SSE in the morning but turned SSW and STRONG early mornings. Much sea grass was around so options were very limited. In some short opprtunities I managed to get line in the water and was well rewarded.

Peel Inlet / Murray River
Submitted by buschy on Tue, 2010-10-05 13:23Hi all,
Will be on a houseboat Fri & Sat starting in the Murray River and working our way down to the Peel Inlet. Just after a bit of advice as undoubtably there will be some fishing in among the beer swilling:
- Does anyone know what the bream situation is in the Murray? Are there many prawns around?
- What can I expect in the inlet itself? Herring? KGW?
- Is it better to fish the inlet and around Mandurah, or down towards the Dawesville Cut?
- Is it worth throwing out larger baits, particularly live baits down around the cut or in the inlet?
Cheers,
Buschy :-)

breaming this morning
Submitted by scottland on Mon, 2010-10-04 13:22with the pictures of the bream coming in through the weekend i decided to give it a try to test out my new rod and reel. i rigged up and cast out a river prawn. first cast i had a huge hook up and by the weight i could feel i reckon it would have gone 40cm.
it was my first time using braid and my knot gave way from braid to swivel. thought it was strange so after a few more casts and only landing a 27cm bream i came home
now my question is there a knot that wont give way because all my uni knots were slipping or is it better to just not use a swivel?

Spring tides vs. neaps
Submitted by lunker on Mon, 2010-10-04 10:24Hey guys, I've posted recently about heading to Broome either the end of the month or first couple weeks of Nov.
As the dates are still up in the air, I'm just trying to gather some info so I can maximise my chances..
So what do you guys think about spring vs. neap tides? Last trip was during the springs and therefore made the fishing a bit harder... on the same note however, with Willie Ck obviously on a low there was much less water therefore better fish/water ratio? In theory anyway!
Is it worth planning the trip around the neap tides? Or is it moreso a comfort/convenience thing more than anything else?? Be interesting to hear some theories from you up-north fishos.
Cheers
