Lake Hume NSW / VIC
Submitted by 420casts on Sat, 2017-12-02 03:23On a work trip in Albury for a fortnight and we are staying on Lake Hume. Managed to pop my Redfin cherry last night but I am far more interested in Murray Cod and Trout. Basically looking for a few pointers as far as lures go. I have earthworms (only bait the BCF here offers) and cheese which I have been told is dynamite for MC's. Any help appreciated. Thankyou !

First fish on new boat - Fish ID
Submitted by selthy on Fri, 2017-12-01 20:08Went out from Ocean Reef today with the intention of getting the deck dirty for the first time. I landed this as my first fish. Initial thoughts was that it is a Bonito, however appears to look different to other Bonito pics I have seen. Mackeral? Measured 35cm and went straight back in. Caught using a basic paternosta rig with long shank hooks as we were chasing somem whiting.

Fisheries theme song
Submitted by meglodon on Thu, 2017-11-30 23:19Way back when the Isle brothers brought out a song titled "here we go again".
I think this is an apt song for Fisheries, why well there is a half page story in this weeks Mandurah Mail page 6,complete with photo of a couple of low life who where caught interfering with other people cray gear and one of them pulling a pot licenced by his misses.
Congratulations Richard Collard and Daylan Nathan, Collard is the winner of a $11000.00 fine plus $190.85 in costs and Nathan is the winner of a $4500.00 fine plus $190.85 costs.
The same story also reports that Daniel Potter won a $2000.00 fine plus $190.85 costs for pulling setting and interfering with five rock lobster pots.
Now here is an interesting part in the story " the court heard that during targeted surveillance of Collards vessel, in Blue Bay November 8, 2016 he was observed with Daniel Potter pulling setting and interfering with five rock lobster pots.
The way the story reads (to me anyway) is these two fine examples of thieves where targeted by Fisheries, makes you wonder if they had been suspected of illegal activities before, and as a result Fisheries had them as a specific target, hmmm.
Strangely there is no mention of their boat being confiscated, why not.
Well done Fisheries keep the fine work up and don't forget to whistle here we go again whilst on the job.
On another thread a mention has been made that perhaps Fisheries are employing modern technology by way of deploying drone/s.

dunsborough ramps
Submitted by Sea goat on Thu, 2017-11-30 11:33HI guys.
just wondering if anyone knows what the old Quindalup ramp is like at the moment. heading down with the missus over the weekend and thinking of brining the boat, but if really boggy or full fo seaweed, then prob wont bother. not keen on the dunsborough ramp as seem to have to back the car pretty far into the water and pretty shallow!
also, given the demersal ban, I was thinking mainly goginfor whiting etc, any idea if any pelagics come thorugh?
cheers!

Crayfish Rules Interpretation
Submitted by Pembo on Thu, 2017-11-30 11:07I just want to confirm my understanding of the crayfishing rules. The following scenario is based on three licenced people on one boat all with two pots out:
- Maximum crays taken from any one pot is 8 (based on the pot being alligned to a licence and that licence can only be in posession of eight crays per day)
- If 8 crays are taken in the first pot then that license's second pot should not be pulled.
- If the second pot alligned to that licence is pulled to be rebaited, then any crays inside need to be released.
- Second licence pulls both of their pots and only get 6 sized crays
- Third licence pulls both pots and there are 10 sized crays in total
- Only 8 crays may be kept and the rest released prior to returng the pots to the water
In this scenario the three cray fisherman didn't bag out and only got 22 crays to bring back in.
Can you please confirm if my intepretation is correct?
Cheers
Pembo

Mooring a boat in shallow water near the shore
Submitted by woody on Wed, 2017-11-29 14:58Hey guys, what's the go with mooring a boat off a beach in shallow water? Taking my Barcrusher up to Warroora next year and don't know whether it's better to use 2 anchors off the bow so it can swing in the wind or go one anchor on the bow and a stern rope back to shore?

Cray jizz
Submitted by scotto on Sun, 2017-11-26 16:28Here’s a handy hint, fuck yas:
sick of that shitty blue cray jizz gel stuck to the bottom of your esky, bucket, or the deck of your boat?
Instead of ripping off your middle cray flap close to the crays body, get yourself some scissors, and cut off only the bottom half of the cray flap. This stops them bleeding/jizzing that shit blue jizzy/gel shit all over your boat, esky, bucket, etc.
youre welcome.

Duelling crayfish and agro wobby
Submitted by crano on Sat, 2017-11-25 19:12Had a dive on thursday and saw 2 big crays having a brawl. I filmed them for about a minute before they decided I was too close and they took off.
Also had a little wobby swim over my sharkshield and opened its mouth right up and then swam past my buddy .
Last year in the same place I had one about the same size come from behind me and brush against me as it went past.
Crap quality pics as taken from gopro video.
