General Fishing Chat

Calling all Mulloway Gurus!

With the Southwest having many rivers flooding at the moment and a huge amout of pooring into the ocean, I thought this might be a good time to try for a Mulloway at one of the river mouths.

Now I'm a novice when it comes to this kind of fishing and I have never caught a Mulla from the shore, so I was wondering;

  • Do I have a chance at catching a Mulla?
  • Is it better to fish a incoming tide with a river in flood or a outgoing tide?
  • Am I better to use live baits or dead baits in dirty water or maybe artificial baits?
  • Would a 'Esca' light work on a artificial bait in dirty water?

Many many questions but as much advice as possible would be great.

sp v bait.

Question is. Are soft plastics better than bait. Fresh bait has indisputably been the way to go. Is bait fishing now the way of the past and are soft plastics now the way of the modern era who goes fishing without bait now days

filming on your boat/kayak makes you a comercial vessel?

 MEDIA RELEASE

Coalition the only answer as Rudd Labor and Greens slap GO PROenforcement action on recreational fishing media and anglersCEO of the Australian Marine Alliance (AMA) Dean Logan today highlighted that the only safe vote for the2013 federal election for millions of recreational fisherman and allied businesses was the Federal Coalition,as Labor / Green policy now seeks to impose heavy fines on recreational anglers and recreational fishingmedia who take footage of fishing activity.

Mr Logan, “Thanks to Labor and the Greens recreational anglers who fish from a kayak and who takefootage with their GO PRO and upload this footage to a sponsored facebook page, will be deemed by theAustralian Marine Safety Authority (AMSA) and State Agencies, as operating a ‘domestic commercialvessel’.

“If their vessel does not comply with the litany of commercial vessel requirements – for instance having theirboat surveyed on an annual basis – they will be subject to court action and issued with substantialcommercial based penalties

.“The situation is so bad that some state authorities are even suggesting that they could stream throughmedia already uploaded to hundreds of websites and sponsor based facebook pages and issue penalties retrospectively.”

State jurisdictions have enacted enabling legislation to enforce new laws passed by Federal Labor and the greens and implemented by the Australian Marine and Safety Authority (AMSA).

http://nationalsystem.amsa.gov.au/

As it stands vessels involved in production of TV fishing shows are not considered promotional activity orpart of a film set and so are not exempt from the legislation. As a result they will be deemed to be operatinga ‘domestic commercial vessel’ if they film fishing activity and post this footage on television, onto asponsors website or facebook page. They will subsequently need to comply with domestic commercialvessels requirements or face large fines and prosecution.

Mr Logan concluded, “It’s very clear that Federal Labor and the Greens are anti-business, anti-fishing andanti-fun.“Labor simply cannot be trusted.

These are draconian laws drummed up on the back of a postage stamp inCanberra.“By any objective standard the laws lack commonsense and a genuine understanding of Australian cultureand the notion of a ‘fair go’.“The irony of this legislation is that Labor and the Greens have single handedly turned every fishing andboating media outlet and millions of angry Australians against them only one week into their federal electioncampaign.“I wonder what Kevin Rudd’s Obama spin doctors have to say about that,” ended Mr Logan.

Hmmmmm may have to take down my videos for the time being

I know some of the guys on here have used the Dragonfly, but mainly in shallower water. Do we have any real life experiences with Demersal type soundings in waters around 40-60m yet?

Dampier Classic Results.

Good to see the top Karratha Billfish guys all in action over the long weekend in Dampier.

Tough luck to Adam and the Premium Edition guys to miss out on the chocolates on count back after leading most of the weekend and having one cracker of a day 2.

Would of loved a couple more shots but had to be happy with our result in the end.

Oooglie fish ID??

Caught in 290's on a 500gram jig.

Portable lights

I heard that blokes who go squidding on their boat at night shine a light on the water to attract the squid with good success. I'm land based though and just wondering if anyone knows of some portable lights (if they exist haha) I could take down to jetties and other places (which have bad or no lights) to increase my chances

Damiki Backdrop - Demersal Jigs

We've just had another delivery of Damiki Backdrop jigs, these demersal jigs have been killing it for us on dhufish (especially big fish), blackarse, pinkys and even baldys. This time we bulked up as we sold far more than expected. The pegs are full (not for long ha ha) with 4 of our favorite colours and all sizes including 80g/100g/130g/160g/200g. (Prices are from $29.95 - $34.95 then less FW discount)

Jigging 60-100m, the 160g & 200g are ideal.

Jigging 35-50m, the 80g/100g & 130g are ideal.

Below is a picture of the " reverse side " of the Damiki Backdrops.

The unique angles give this jig a back flip/drop action that fish just cant ignore!!!

** If you need help on selecting the right jig, learning the right action, wanting to get setup for demersal jigging etc we specialize in that and happy to help **

Here's a few pics of fish caught recently by us and customers on the Damiki Backdrop

How's Friday looking?

Seabreeze says 3m swell and little to no wind. Do you think FFB might be a bit lumpy? The sound might be the go. Either way might have a look providing it isn't raining
