need a bit of advice
Submitted by petermac on Mon, 2013-07-01 18:33I bought some stuff at my local boat shop that is supposed to prevent corrosion/electrolysis between different materials such as stainless steel and ali. when I bought this stuff it cost $28 for a syringe of it and they told me it would develop a skin but wouldn't completely harden. I coated the s/s screws when I mounted my new radio but it is still tacky after 5 days. can any 1 recommend any thing else

Live Bait
Submitted by salmonwanter on Mon, 2013-07-01 15:51I go fishing regularly on Busselton Jetty but I really want to start going for bigger fish and not just the small stuff.
I recently bought a big reel put heavy line on it. I have everything to catch big fish but I need to learn how to catch live bait. (I even bought an aerator for the live baits and no I'm not rich).
The bait catcher from BCF didn't work so how do I use them.
Any tips on what to use to catch them?
Do I use the bait catcher rig or baits?
Where on the jetty?
How long will the baits survive?
Thankyou

Prawning and Scallops
Submitted by jdavies_99 on Mon, 2013-07-01 11:48Hi guys,
I am looking to expand my horizons on fishing and try new things.
I was hoping I could get some tips and guidelines on how to get prawns in the swan and some scallops in the sound if possible.
Have never tried either so any base advise would be appreciated from where is best to go, what sort of gear works and what time of the year/conditions you would best to go out in.
I have a 45ft game boat plus a trailerable boat so I can access most areas.
I heard a rumour that people trawl nets in the swan for prawns? is that true?
Thanks
J

Noise and snapper
Submitted by Noxious on Mon, 2013-07-01 07:57I notice a lot of people are under the staunch belief that they must be crouching tiger hidden dragon to not make a whisper of a noise when snapper fishing, as to not scare away the fish.
I personally think it makes no difference, I just go about no normal business.
What are people's thoughts?

Cockburn hazard?
Submitted by Spitfire56 on Sun, 2013-06-30 20:43Hello everyone, decided to go for a fish in Cockburn Sound on Fiday chasing a Snapper or 2, started at a secret spot (d9!) the night was dead calm. Whilst fishing at night we encountered something I have never come across and potentially a risk to smaller craft.
We were passed by two big tug boats at relatively close range kicking up a wake which hit us side on at anchor. Obviously this happens often when boats pass however as the 2 followed each other they created several breaking waves at least 1.5m +high and very close together tossing the boat violently to the point where I felt if in a lesser boat we would have taken on water and potentially sunk, or if we didn't hear the waves rolling in could have fallen over or out.
I have been around boats my whole life and understand the usual wake of a boat or a ship but this was like when a tsunami kicks up to a huge wave in shallow water and then the waves build up, or when swell breaks on reef. Wondered if anyone else saw, felt these waves on Friday as there where a few other boats near by? My boat is a 5 .75 m glass, however I would have worried in a smaller boat and given the conditions wouldn't have expected these sort of waves from a couple of tugs!
Anyway just something to think about/watch out for. By the way caught a few small gummys and a couple of squid,no snapper

New boat trailer advice
Submitted by C.P on Sun, 2013-06-30 17:51Took the boat out today and I have realised its time for a new trailer or some major repairs to the old one

Rod for van staal vm150
Submitted by Noxious on Sun, 2013-06-30 16:02Hey fellas
looking for some advice/personal experience. Recently bought a VM150, haven't spooled it up just yet. Go with 30-40lb braid.
looking for a rod to match. Is mainly going to be used in 40-70m off the back of rotto fishing mainly for demersals with bait with some soft plastic fishing being thrown in. But predominantly bait.
I want the rod to be effective, but also like some decent aesthetics to go with the good looks of the VM.
The rods I have been looking at are the samurai reaction bluwater 532 or 602 or the Xzoga taka-pi 7525 or 7626.
what are people's thoughts?
cheers.

King George
Submitted by Gray on Sun, 2013-06-30 07:07Went out off hillarys yesterday for the first time in months while my boat was getting refurbed. I lost all my spots (not that I had many) since having to replace my gps. Picked an area in about 35 meters and sounded round for something interesting did a few drifts till my brother scores a plump kg. Sounded and drifted the area for the rest of the day for another 5 nice kg and one baldy. I've been out and got the odd kg but never a bag like that. My question is did I get lucky or have I stumbled across some potential kg ground. It was quite broken ground as i have read here before
P.s if you see a baron sportsman with grey paint and black canopy might be me, feel free to say g'day
Cheers

Stickbait Carry Bag?
Submitted by Knot Big Enuff on Sat, 2013-06-29 20:12Hey guys, what sort of bag (soft) would be used for small to medium poppers and stickbaits? Got an HPA one big ones ... but they're way too big for smaller stuff (3" and under).
I usually take off my trebles and assist hooks while placing them back into bag.... hence looking for soft bag, also to protect paint etc... too much $$$ for these things nowadays!
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

unwanted surprise
Submitted by Gav475 on Sat, 2013-06-29 19:43In exy at the moment on holidays, staying in a rental in town. Had a great day out yesterday with my oldest lad bagging out on rankin, goldband, sharp tooth, saddle back and spangldies. Lost a heap to sharks and had an unusual catch of catfish from 120mtrs, hadnt seen that before.Had whaale sharks next to the boat and mantas swimming by. Got up this morning and strated cleaning the boat. Looked in the cab and WTF, a used condom and an empty bottle of wine in there. Some dirty skanks have climbed in there during the night, had a shag and left their mess behind. On watch tonight cause if they try it again they are going to hospital with permanent injuries.

Trolling speeds
Submitted by outdoinit on Sat, 2013-06-29 08:20Up at Barn Hill at the moment and yesterday took the dingy out trolling for some macks and was wondering what speeds others like to troll at??? I realize this is all dependent on what lure you are using but as a rule of thumb what speeds do you like??
We were trolling Halco's 190 2+ mtr lures and starting speed of approx 15 kilometers per hour
at this speed we picked up one good mack and I got a PB 108cm Queenie.
But then things went quite for a couple of hours, so on the way home I cranked up the speed to approx 21 kph and bang got another Mackie.. Go figure
At 23 kph the lures would start to skip across the water.
Ps: Forgot the bloody camera (Again) so no photos... :-(
