Time for Exmouth

Heading up to Exmouth on Thursday for a long weekend (whale shark dive on Friday).

Lots of people heading up for the holidays so it seems.

I will be taking two rods and a few metal lures to try and interest something from the shore. Last time I was up there, I am sure that I supported Bluewater while I was there, and even with a boat, I didn’t catch a thing, so fingers crossed that I wake something up this time

Anyone catching any Sailys up near Ktown?

We've got a guest coming over from Melbourne for a fishing trip and want to head out wide. The wind doesnt look like letting up so we might end up doing a fair bit of trolling getting out to some spots. The water temps definitely dropped off, especially after all that rain. Just wondering if anyone has had any luck getting any Sailys? Cheers. Maybe the water can just calm off???

Night fish

Need some advise guys....we are thinking of heading out this afternoon at about 4pm, staying out till about 10pm. Winds look good but the worry is the swell (3-4m)..this is our first night time session so your thoughts would be appreciated

Calcutta 400 drag upgrade

Hi all,
I have just bought a Calcutta 400 from the buy/sell section, and want to upgrade the drag with carbontex. Does anyone know if the Calcutta uses .5mm or 1mm drag washers? Also, is there anywhere in WA I can buy Carbontex sheets from?

Thanks

Drew

Lures + WD40

G'day all,

A mate just mentioned he heard soaking your lures in WD40 can potentially act as a fish attractant because it is rumoured to be made out of fish oils? Just wondering if anyone has heard the same.

Cheers

Jigging rod to suit stradic CI4 4000 advice

Hi guys

Just after your thoughts on a good jigging rod to suit a Stradic CI4 4000 reel. Will use for soft plastics and jigs not too deep off Rotto etc.

Budget of about $150-$200 I would hope to get in under.

Cheers

Moving to Dubai! - Farewell

 Hey All ...

Had the pleasure of living in Perth for the last 11yrs (minus 2yrs overseas) - and now it's time to move on ... to Dubai with Work! Looking forward to the move, but feeling sad leaving all the mates here in Oz, and not to mention the great fishing adventures I had over the years.

All the best to everyone on here, as I spent time on this Forum more than I spent on my inbox at work  Some great Peeps I've met through FishWrecked, that will maintain their freindship for very long time.

I'll certainly keep my eye open on the forum, and hopefully some reports of GTs and stuff to come ... watch out S Oman ... here I come

Anyone on here living and fishing there, please PM me, and I'll share some contact details; it'd be great to empty your brains a bit.

Enuff rattling and best of luck to everyone.

Tight lines

Hesh

Giant Piraiba Catfish

Anyone watch the SBS channel last night ?

Killing Bin Laden was on at the same time but I chose to flick to SBS to watch this episode.

This bloke from Chile ? who called himself an extreme angler went hunting for this giant piraiba in the Amazon River using 1-2 kg size catfish as bait and Penn International size reel.

Eventually he managed to land a monster estimated to be 200+kg.

I would have thought Jakub would have been better off using a jigging rod  or bent butt big game rod and harness to ease the pressure off his back . Mono is the go here given the river is laden with snags.

Can't wait to watch next week's episode and see him battling the mighty Giant Barramundi of Africa - The Nile Perch.

GBR Marine Park Catamaran

http://www.wired.com/autopia/2013/06/barrier-reef-catamaran/

'An all-new, environmentally friendly catamaran will help officials in Australia protect the 1,250-mile Great Barrier Reef while enjoying a modicum of comfort.

The concept ship, due to be launched in 2014, is a joint project between Incat Crowther and Marine Engineering Consultants. It’s set to be used in the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area (GBRWHA), and gives officials a 24-foot mobile office on the water.

The catamaran features seating for 15, room for 12 crew in twin cabins, a platform for launching an inflatable boat or dives, and multiple workstations. And, since the crew will be Australian, there’s an outdoor barbecue. It’s an ideal setup for patrolling one of the most valuable and sensitive natural resources on earth.'

Do you use trim tabs or a hydrofoil/stabiliser on your boat?

Ive been slowly doing up a 19ft voyager thats got a  125HP Mercury 2 stroke (2+2 cylinders) on the back. I do alot of Km's out there and I estimate that it uses just under a litre per kilometre with 3 blokes, 150litres fuel and our fishing gear cruising at 38km/h (approx 4000 rpm) (the hull is late 80's and seems pretty solidly built and heavy)  I would like to reduce the fuel consumption if possible so just wondering if i was to fit trim tabs or a hydrofoil/ stabiliser or both will it make a significant difference in fuel economy? I keep reading all the advantages of these, do people find they are worth it. The boat cruises at 12 km/h on two cylinders (approx 2500 rpm) and when the other two cylinders kick in at 2600 rpm or more it jumps straight up onto a plane so maybe trim tabs and hydrofoil/ stabiliser wont make a difference?  Also what about props if you change them can you reduce fuel economy?  All advice appreciated    Cheers Dave

Ocean Reef Marina

Hello all....i see a contracting company have been hard at it for a few months and Hodges drive between Marmion Ave and the coast is now a dual carriage way. I heard a rumour it may be for the extra traffic the Ocean Reef Marina will generate when construction finally begins. Anyone else heard anything?

PS sorry about earlier post..........note to self don't post onto forum after too much beer and red wine!

bent street boat ramp

the Rockingham council have received funding to dredge a channel out from the bent street ramp but seems they are dragging their feet on this , I just hope the money doesn't go else where (junkets over seas to look at boat ramps) , I will be running for council at the next elections I want that dredging to happen and hope fishwrecked member's in the council area will vote for me

What's wrong with my fishing? Or Super Moon?

So armed with some mulies, squid jigs, and other gear.   I had the idea to target snapper in the Cockburn Sound.  After reading, it looks likethe following tips should be followed; Snelled hooks,  burley up, go at night and wait for change of light.  So launched at Woodies at 4am, and headed towards the D9.  I sounded it out and think I saw fish arches on the sounder (no good at reading sounder), but I was definately anchored up-current on the structure.

I burleyed up, and kept trying until 11.30am for nothing but a baby sambo (cute little thing!).  This meant I was there for 6+ hours and sat through moon set / sunrise / tide change - all for nothing :(

Another 4 hours was spent running around the sound trying for squid / herring / skippy as I was getting desperate - managed one little squid and a herring.

So, what am I doing wrong?  Or should I just blame the Super Moon?
