Furuno Transducer
Submitted by timboon on Tue, 2013-05-07 21:11GDay FW crew,
Does anyone know anything about the Tranni`s Koala are advertising at the moment as part of a special they are running.
They are a Transon Mount Tri-Ducer 50/200khz.
I did the backwards thing and ordered one and am now shitting/hoping its a good unit for a 627 sounder. I`m hoping it can be used with bottom lock but I dont know much about them and am having trouble on the net finding any info on them,
I know there will be brainiacs on here that will be all over it.
As always your help is appreciated,
Tim

The Moles or E Shed?
Submitted by sideshow on Tue, 2013-05-07 20:17Gday
I'm thinking of trying for some snapper and or mullas on friday evening.
Just wondering where would be best?
Does the Eshed produce pinkies at all with this type of weather or is the North or South mole better all round?
On the Moles what is better for these fish the end, inside, outside, halfway down? Never had any real luck from them before.
Any advice would be great and a pm is welcome if you don't want to post any spots publicly.
Cheers
Brendon

The Abrolhos - Is it a Fishing Paradise or Just Paradise ??? PT 1
Submitted by abeldog on Tue, 2013-05-07 19:55Hi All,
After a long time in the wilderness, I thought it was time to resurface with an editorial on my last two trips to the Abrolhos.
I have been fortunate to join Paul G & Jesse as part of the crew.
The first trip six weeks ago started with the five hour trip to Geraldton arriving about 10.00pm. The wonderpot of stew was magical, filled us up, then off to bed on the jetty for an early morning start.
We were joined by Outdoinit & Rusty on what was going to be more diving than fishing, Ahh well someone has to look after the gear.
The run across took about two hours, once we were at the islands, quick coffee, bacon and eggs for breakfast then getting ready for the first dive.
I couldnt help myself, I cast a soft plastic in the translucent colour and I was on straight away.
Coral Trout in the first 30 seconds, quick photo then release.
Then it was "The Divers Turn"
Rusty with a Great Trout on his first Dive
Jesse with another double, Dhui Trout
The Squid were jumping in the Boat
The Fisher not to be out done
And another to be released
Even the "Jumbo Yellowfin Tuna" were in the mix
We released more fish than we took home, about 20kg of fillets between four of us plus 10 Jumbo Crays.
Do we really need anymore when it all is still waiting there for next time.
The weather was great, we had shark action at night, Snorkling, Diving, Fishing(Plastics, Jigs, Baits whatever is your thing), Kyaking, Swimming,
Nature Walks, History, Myths, Legends, One Lost Go Pro with photos of schools of Dhufish in their thousands, okay maybe in the hundreds.
The Abrolhos has it all.
To be cont....................

squid worm/parasite or even sperm???
Submitted by mateusz on Tue, 2013-05-07 13:39hey guys,
I got back late last night from fishing and decided to leave the squid in the fridge to clean this morning. So When i pulled them out of the dish today, a little worm like creature was left crawling around the dish.... WTF is it? can i still eat the squid? from what i understand i should be able to as i am only eating the meat/muscle not the whole thing.
found this on google while trying to find some info on the little worm thing.

Snapper?
Submitted by AlwaysFishin on Tue, 2013-05-07 11:32This is probably a little bit different to most snapper discussions, but a couple days ago the mrs and I went to AQWA for a look on a lazy day off. When we went through the underwater walk through aquarium section, I saw a few fish that looked similar to pink snapper, but they were a dark red colour instead of pink and the pronounced snout bump was more like a small horn rather than a large round bump (excuse the lack of correct terminology). Is this some sort of subspecies as I've never seen a fish like it. I can't find anything via google search so I've got no pic. Can anyone shed any light on what they are?

Swan Fishing Friday
Submitted by dant on Tue, 2013-05-07 07:18Gday All,
With the weather looking pretty rough this week me and a mate thought we would give the river a shot this friday, i have been fishing mainly around maylands for a bit of bream which has been doing well, but i thought with the rain coming it might be worth taking the tug a bit further downstream, maybe chasing some tailor around mossies, or flathead.
havent done alot of boat fishing in the swan and especially not in the cooler months, does anyone else have some good ideas for the swan this time of year, and what has been running of late?
Any advice/ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks again Dan

Level wind removal?
Submitted by sideshow on Mon, 2013-05-06 19:48Hi everyone
I am borrowing a Shimano Tekota 800 from a mate and he wants to sell it to me. I am pretty happy with it overall but I would like to cast it further as I am land based 99% of the time. The main issue is it occasionally over runs mid cast and I think it is due to the braid having to go through the level wind so I cant really put any real effort into a cast.
So my main question is will removing the level wind help with this at all or will it just end up causing other problems?
Also are there any rods around that can take an overhead reel at around the 10- 12 foot length that are not too expensive (less than $150)?
Cheers

Jeep or Pajero
Submitted by shonky on Mon, 2013-05-06 19:20I'm looking at buying a new tug for the boat and van and it's come down to either a jeep grand Cherokee or a mitsi Pajero, both auto diesels. Does anyone know of any underlying problems with either of these two cars that the dealers are "forgetting" to mention ?
cheers guys

Shark bay fishing charters
Submitted by jeffh on Mon, 2013-05-06 19:17Gday all,
just got back from a couple of weeks in shark bay, had a great time bit windy first week, still managed to get the boat out most days though but had to stay within the bay, as we dont want to hammer our spots we only go to the same spots twice on a holiday last week went to one of our spots for the first time this year was there about half hour when one of the two charter operators in town[not unreal charters, they are reputable and I would, and do recommend them to anybody]so that only leaves 'mac attack' came right up to us abusing us wanting to know how we got...... 'his'........ spot because apparently nobody knows this particular fishing spot, the abuse we endured was quite unbelievable especially when we had our families on board and he had a full charter was unbelievable and very unpleasant, as we were out to have an enjoyable day I told my mate to pack up and we would shift to another spot, so the big bully boy thought he won that round, Has anybody else experienced the very profesional behaviour of this skipper? I told as many people in shark bay about our experience as possible because I believe good operators should be recognised and bad operatores named, I was going to give out the coordinates for the spot, but eventually decided not destroy one of my fishing spots.

Winter Tailor advice
Submitted by Aaron_Moses95 on Mon, 2013-05-06 19:11Hi guys, as the weather has started to cool off ive noticed that the tailor schools have been harder to find. Personally ive managed 2 legal tailor from the hillarys north wall last week, last time i had caught tailor before that was in february. I wanted to know, what would be better, beach or rock fishing for tailor during winter? Im certainly heading to club capricorn soon over the next few weekends, as i had some success there last year, but again they were all in the 40-45 cm range. What can i do to possibly find some that are over 50cm, i only seem to find the little ones. I use small metals and poppers and also use weighted mulies, all have produced small ones, no big ones in perth yet.
Any help would be great.
Cheers
Aaron.

Broome Jetty combo advice
Submitted by Matt T on Mon, 2013-05-06 18:41G'day all, I would appreciate some advice on a combo for use at the Broome Jetty.
Basically, I get to go up there a couple of times a year for only a few days at a time for work. My mate has a house up there where I want to leave a rod and reel combo so I can have a crack at the jetty. I've been down to the jetty quite a few times, mainly for lunch at the wharf though, but there always seems to be some action with people catching threadfin, trevs and macks.
What would be a cheap combo, preferably 2 piece for travel there, that would hold up to the odd sesh at the jetty?
Any help would be really appreciated!

if anybody is willing to give me one spot it would be greatly appreciated.
needs to be not to far out from the back of the reef as I don't want to get caught 30kms out if the wind picks up.

TODAYS CATCH METRO WATERS
Submitted by clogwog on Sun, 2013-05-05 18:04Absolutley superb day on the water today, took the dinghy around 6 kms out and got some decent fish. None of the fish are huge but still made for a good day out with
my young fellas.
All fish were legal size, snapper was 52cm. My first decent Breaksea and Harlequin.
Caught a few othe Breaksea that were size but put them back.
Sambo was given to the mother in law. (did the right thing and filleted it for her) lol
Had 4 bustoffs from what I think was sambos, might have to re-spool with something heavier than 20LB.
Harlequin made a superb meal.
Love to hear how others went Today.
