Dunsborough/Hamelin Bay Salmon
Submitted by Bobstanator on Wed, 2013-05-15 18:09Hi guys, first time poster here so bare with me cheers (and bare with me on another salmon thread sorry). Heading down to dunsborough for the rest of this week purely to chase salmon, as I was down there 2 weekends ago and had many close calls, breaks off's etc etc fishing off the beach at bunkers, so am keen for another shot. I will be hitting up the coast anywhere between dunsborough and augusta basically, and want to know if the late salmon run has started yet or if there are still fish schools down there? I have read all the recent forums on here, and it seems they are still running in patches but would love to know if any of you have had success lately or heard of anyone getting into the salmon, and if so maybe general areas (doesnt need to be spots). I will try out hamelin bay one day, but since I haven't been there for over a decade I cant remember if there are any fishing restrictions (no fishing zones etc) or where the tracks are onto the beach. Any help on that matter would be great! Apologies for the long post, its my last shot this season for salmon and I am keen to catch one.

to carpet or not ?
Submitted by D_d_001 on Wed, 2013-05-15 17:11have a genesis 6.1
up until now it has been uncarpeted, non slip ali deck. self draining decks, mainly used for fishing....north trips etc. but occ used river wine cruise.
anyone here have opinions as to whether carpet is better or not.
just doing it up a bit at the moment over winter and wondering if carpet would be a worthy addition. how does it go for cleaning etc.
I usually wear thongs in the boat.
1. cos the non slip deck is like sandpaper (not bad for a day out but spend 10 days straight 10 hrs a day (love to fish hard sometimes !!!) and Im sure Im a cm shorter!)
2. fatigue etc.
carpet help? or just be harder to clean and smell bad etc???
cheers guys

jetty combo?
Submitted by sheldoncy23 on Wed, 2013-05-15 15:53im coming into about $400-$450 soon and was thinking of either an overhead or spin combo that will be mostly used for jettys like busso and rocks for salmon etc... was thinking stradic 4000 or 5000 with 20lb braid on a 8 or 9 footer. any better suggestions? would an overhead be better seeing as i would have acess to a boat every so often? i have posted before about this i was going to start buying gear for lb shark fishing so im caught between a rock and a hard place!
any input welcome especially from you jetty and rock specialists

Black Bream tactics??
Submitted by curtis14 on Tue, 2013-05-14 22:25 Hi guys, i recently have found a few spots with some thumping black bream in the river and i have tried using bait but i cant even get a bait to the bottom because it gets enialated by blowies. I was wondering if any of you experienced blokes knew of a lure or a metal or just anything i could use to try and get one of these blackies without using bait.

Please tell me what boat I want?
Submitted by Swompa on Tue, 2013-05-14 19:16Ok, after a week of holidays, I have come back in dreaming mode and have been looking at boats it for the first time in my life, I don't know what boat I want.
Guidelines are as follows:
Trailerable and beach launchable
around 6-7m
Forward V berth for overnighters
suitable for diving and fishing.
Now personally, I am a fan of Aluminium boats weight wise, and was thinking of something like the mass produced pressed hulls rather than the plate boats simply due to the weight thing again?
Surely you lot could tell me what I want?
Thanks

Fishing Charter Recommendations
Submitted by Liz on Tue, 2013-05-14 12:26Hiya
I joined the forums specifically to get people's advice from here :)
I am looking for a Perth deep sea fishing charter company to buy a gift voucher for a friend. I think I have narrowed it down to 2 - Salt Water or Apache.
I am not really sure what makes a good charter company so I am hoping you guys can give me some advice and recommendations?
Is it better to go during the week when there are less people for example? A friend said less people is better because of the catch limits.
Thanks for any advice!
Liz

Seabreeze V's Willyweather - which is most accurate
Submitted by beeroclock on Tue, 2013-05-14 09:42Ive always used seabreeze.com for scuba diving and boating condition forecasts. Recently i was told willyweather is more accurate by some guy i was chatting with at a barbie over summer. Since comparing the two there seems to be quite a wide variation between the two at times. For instance this weekend seabreeze says 12-15kn winds with no rain sunday while willyweather says around half that on sunday with some rain. Other times willyweather says much stronger winds than seabreeze. Which do you guys find the mmost accurate? personally I still favour seabreeze or are there other better sites available that im not aware of

blowies
Submitted by petermac on Mon, 2013-05-13 19:39I hate blowies but are they really a feral species as some one has said like carp , I can remember back in 1970,71 and 72 the whole of the swan and coast was infested with them I personally believe that is about when the swan river prawns disappeared ( you did a drag and all you got was bowies and jelly fish) , I vaguely remember an article in the west Australian written by a marine biologist at the time saying that the blowies were developing a deformed tail, I remember going for a dive on the south mole around the same time with my uncle when we jumped in all we could see was millions and millions of blowies heading out to sea and the next thing the swan river and coast was prity close free of blowies for decades I know people wont believe me but it is a true story
