Submitted by born2fish on Wed, 2011-07-27 13:54hey,
i know lots of people consider buff bream to be a 'shit' fish but after hooking up to a few and expieriencing their power i was wondering if there are any good spots to target them.

Landbased Squidding
Submitted by tobefished on Wed, 2011-07-27 12:17Hi Fishwrecked team,
I have been a constant follower of fishwrecked and this is my first post. I have been out squidding over the last few weeks without to much luck. I am a landbased squidder which does not have access to a boat. I fish primarily from North Mole and South Mole and in the last few weeks have not had much Luck with Squidding. I do use good squid jigs from breaden, yozuri, yamashita. If anyone have tips or new locations which i can try near Perth Metro that would be great. Also if you can help with the best colour of squid jigs to use at night as i am still fresh to the squidding and fishing scene.
Thanks

Where to catch a bweam?
Submitted by beau on Wed, 2011-07-27 11:22Hey guys, Im currently on my 1st day of a 4 day break and hanging out for a fish. Realy want to try something different and cant realy hit the coast for a bash as a huge front is coming in within the next 12hrs.
I want to try my luck on some bream, Ive got the setup, rod and reel wise, just unsure what lures/colours and where to start. Im in Bertram so 20mins down the freeway is the Serpy River. Im limited to 2WD and lanbased only.
Anyone have any tips on lures and what area of the Serpy or should i just go down there and give it a go blind?
Cheers guys

Has anyone used one of these to hook up 2 Fishfinders?
Submitted by Braxi on Wed, 2011-07-27 10:49Hi,
I was just looking on the Airmar website and came across this item. It states that 2 fishfinders can be hooked up to the one 1KW transducer with a switch between the two. Would that be suitable for use with a primary and then backup sounder - sounder/chartplotter? ie Furuno 585 and HDS8? Could come in handy.

sounder shots for championruby and glastronomic
Submitted by scotto on Wed, 2011-07-27 08:15i couldnt put pics up in the last post (fishfinders in dinghys), so here they are.
its a raymarine A50D sounder/plotter. completely waterproof unit, so a bit of spray doesnt hurt it, but its mounted below the side of the boat anyway, so it shouldnt cop much driving spray.
the bracket is made from a 2mm thick bit of aluminium (available from any 50km/ph sign in your neighborhood....), and was bent up in the shed, in a vice. no need to heat or weld.

G'day
Submitted by Fraser 5.25 on Tue, 2011-07-26 19:41Hi all,
Long time reader, first time poster to the forum. Just joined up after a while of umming and erring as to whether or not to sign up to fishwrecked. Finally decided to join as my usual fishing buddy couldn't make it for what looked like a perfect night fish tonight (Tuesday 26th) but it didn't matter as I couldn't post up a deckie spot until now anyway. I live in Kwinana and I have been fishing and diving around Garden Island. I own a fraser 5.25 with a 2006 75hp 2 stroke stinker but it hasn't missed a beat since I became the new owner of it about a year and a half ago. I have only just got into the fishing this year as the conditions haven't been the most favourable for diving and the only reason that the fishing has been persued was accidently coming across some good ground close to the Rockingham boat ramps with black arse and dhu and now I am hooked on the next one I'll catch. I would like to do some trips up North or down South with the boat to try new ground but for the time being, it will just have to be local and being a new boatie, it would be nice to go with another boat for safety. Just purchased a Lowrance Elite 5 chart GPS combo and I put that down to finding the good ground recently. Have been doing a lot of night fishing when weather permits as the weathert has been good lately and have been doing well.
Look forward to posting successful trips and when my usual deckie can't make it, taking someone willing out for a fish. Here's a photo of the Dhu fish fillets from last week's outing, hopefully. The can of fly spray is there for showing the size of the fillets.
Ken.

Abrolhos advice
Submitted by jdavies_99 on Tue, 2011-07-26 15:43
Hi guys,
My first post here so sorry if it is in the wrong section. Still learning to navigate my way around.
I was thinking of heading out to the Abrolhos on the weekend of the 13th of August. I have a 21ft Center Console Sea boss which has proved reasonably seaworthy in most conditions. It is basically the same mould as the sea pro with a few little modifications.
I was wondering if I could get some advice on the journey/trip. I went to Abrolhos on a game fishing boat many years back when I was younger but have not been back since.
My questions are
1) is the boat going to be suitable to make such a journey. I understand it is a fair distance offshore and can be rough seas. Would you attempt such a journey in a boat this size or are we being overly ambitious? What sort of weather would you guys draw the line at??
2) we were planning on bringing 400l fuel, we have gps, epirb, radio, flares and all other safetty gear required. Is there any blaring obvious things which we should bring or grab.
3) any tips on where to go would be much appreciated. We are mainly freediving spearfisherman and are restricted to around 20m depths.
last of all if anyone is interested in making the journey with us in their boat would be more than happy to join in convoy. We were thinking of making the crossing early saturday morning on the 13th and coming back on the sunday the 14th. We were also planning a trip for around 17th of September if all goes well with August.
Cheers guys
Regards
Jd

comp has ended (its a draw)
Submitted by fisho-ron on Mon, 2011-07-25 21:23thanks to southcity104 for a cracker of a last entry (106cm hapuka) has south's won by 1. of course!!!! we all new that from the start!!!!
would of been more if it wasnt for a couple of traitors ha ha ha ha and no you guys cant jump ship now!!!!!
but seriously now, the north/south thing was just a bit of fun and proberly wont be there again.
thanks again to everyone that took the time to have a go at something differant, i hope everyone took it as a bit fun and nothing to serious.
we would like to here some opinons good or bad on what you guys thought about how the comp went for the first of its kind as a online fishing comp. (even if you did not enter)
would you like to run it again at a later date with prizes up for grabs this time?
would you still like it to run for a month or was that abit long?
would you still like to run it state wide (WA)
would you still like to keep all species as eligable with a selected amount up for prizes.
and with the prizes would you pay for the postage cost for it to be sent to you if you won.
from a running it point of view,
it wasnt to bad and didnt take alot of time to keep up with, the 2 links was a pain in the ass but that has been sorted and there will only be one link for the next one if it happens.
a report from adam said it did not impact on the site and it didnt cause him any grief with the uploads, which is a good thing as well.
thanks again to everyone and especialy adam for alowing it to go ahead.
cheers
ron
p.s
dont forget if you want to check out all of the entered pics hav a look here

edit......1 wrong entry i did as south insead of north, so it brings it to a draw

Morning tailor
Submitted by leighroy on Mon, 2011-07-25 17:22I went for a solo trip up Cervantes way on Friday afternoon, through some pretty ordinary weather. I've never been around the area before so I spent some time exploring and found some likely looking areas by the time the sun was going down. After finding a place to camp, I went in search of a mulloway. There was a lot of weed in the water which made me a little nervous, but I gave it a crack nonetheless. After 2 casts and about 20kg's of weed landed, followed by a heavy downpour catching me completely offguard, I thought it a good idea to retire for the evening, and try for some tailor in the morn.
As predicted, the weather shaped up nicely and I woke to a starry sky. After a coffee and quick feed I was down on the rocks, and the tailor were playing the game from the outset. Most were hooked just beyond the ledge about 6-7 m in front of me, some further out and a few bold fellas chasing the popper over the ledge into about 20cm of water, which was great fun. Most were around the 50cm mark, with the biggest at 56cm.

Submitted by bod on Mon, 2011-07-25 12:31Karratha residents are keeping a close eye on their neighbours today after a Division One Lotto ticket was sold at a local supermarket.
The ticket, worth $864,914, was sold at Woolworths Karratha but the winner is yet to come forward.
Woolworths staff member Michelle McCutcheon said there was a buzz among staff and customers.
"We hope the winner is one of our locals, but it may also be a tourist as we have quite a few people who travel to the area in winter," she said.
A Karratha couple in their 50s won $595,442 in October last year after buying a Division One ticket from Karratha Lottery Centre and Newsagency.

saragosa 14000 upgrade
Submitted by mullafied12 on Mon, 2011-07-25 11:54I've just bought a saragosa 14000. Originally wanted an 18000 size reel but there was only a 14000 available and was at a good price. From what I understand it is possible to put the 18000 size spool from saragosas or spheros straight onto the 14000? Has any one done this and do you think it is worth it just for the extra line capacity? Looking to probably put 80lb braid onto it?
Secondly does anybody have an spare 18000 spools they're looking to offload?
Cheers
Simon

Can someone clear this up for me?
Submitted by Hairyone on Mon, 2011-07-25 11:31After a recent post regarding someone getting caught with 145.17 kg of fish I have been checking up on some rules I was unsure about.
I found that the rule is, you can have 20kg in your possesion OR 10kg and your daily bag limit of whole fish OR 2 days bag limit of whole fish?.....and are'nt quite sure what it means........Does it mean if I have 10kgs of fish fillets in the freezer and I go out and catch a 15kg fish I can have 25kg as long as the 15kg fish is whole? Or unlimited weight in whole fish as long as its no more than two daily bag limmits?
If thats the case.....I need to keep 10kg or less of fillets in the freezer if I go fishing and plan to catch anything weighing in over than 10kg.......
Just for the record....If I had anything like 10kg of fish in the freezer I would release what I caught any way.
Cheers

g'day all
Submitted by Fish13 on Sun, 2011-07-24 14:42Hi guys
I'm the new bloke. I have been around for a little while i decided to join due to a few members here. Namely danny westeduin, mannablue and grot. I am a regular over at wangler and hotbite and decided to expand the knowledge of crap i dont know :)
I'm bunbury based and have travelled as far as jurien bay fishing and denmark chasing sambo's from the rocks. I am looking for a fishing buddy in the busso/bunbury region who is willing to teach and assist me in fishing the southwest corner. mainly from the rocks as the only rock hopping i have done is from the ASI groyne and woodmans point and the bunbury groynes.
Anyway let the hazing begin.

8" Chartplotters comments invited with a consideration towards update rates
Submitted by till on Sun, 2011-07-24 14:38I should preface this by mentioning that there is no consideration to be put to the use as a sounder, thats covered, and its for use with a Furuno FCV585.
Is there any real difference between 12 and 16ch receivers in the real world?
Has anyone used more than one brand regularly?
Simrad NSE8: 1.6ghz processor, 512mb internal ram, 80GB HDD, 800x600, 8" LCD <-=- big jump in price, video in and out, around $2800
Raymarine C80: 256 colour, 8.4" 640x480 display, uses navionics, plenty of softbuttons, 12ch GPS receiver, 150-45sec fix on coldstart, 8 sec to fix after starting.
Raymarine C90W: 65k colour, 9" 800x480 display, uses navionics, plenty of softbuttons, 12ch GPS receiver, 150-45sec fix on coldstart, 8 sec to fix after starting, supports video input (cool, but seriously...)
Lowrance HDS-8 .. or 8m?: 800x600, 16mil colours, 16ch gps receiver, uses navionics
Simrad NX40: 800x600, 8.4", c-map (ugh!)
Standard Horizon CP500: new brand? 12" 800x600, 256colour, cmap (ugh!) 3 year warranty (!!!), lots of soft keys, video in, 3yr warranty - but only $1640. They also do a 7" touchscreen wifi one for $1500US as well!
After that the options get bit vague! They all seem to be much the same price, say around $2k.
