Charters in Karratha?
Submitted by steelhead on Thu, 2008-11-27 16:47I am hoping for some advice on fishing charters out of Karratha. My wife and I are coming over in January to look at a job there-thinking of making the big move from Canada next year...are there any fishing charters available out of Karratha? Hoping to get some fishing in while we are there.
Would greatly appreciate any info on this.

New toy
Submitted by Colin Hay on Thu, 2008-11-27 14:48
I picked up a 3000 version of one of these last week at a great price at the Tackleshack. Thanks Doug and Matt.
Really smooth feeling reel with all the Daiwa bling.
Can't wait to give it a good test when I come back from a business trip to Sydney.
All the best, Colin Hay

White Pointer
Submitted by mussels on Thu, 2008-11-27 13:22Hi Guys
Anyone thinking of going diving in between Garden and Carnac Islands, think again. In the last two nights a white pointer has been taking snapper from the side of the boat just as you go to net them. Will try and take pics, if fast enough.
Cheers

Helicopter rescues stranded fishermen off Exmouth
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Thu, 2008-11-27 11:37TWO men have been rescued by helicopter after their fishing boat ran aground on a reef north-east of Exmouth Cape early today.
The
60 foot vessel Blue Horizon suffered battery failure and the skipper
was unable to restart the vessel after it ran aground in North Muiron
Islands.
A distress call was made around 5.30am morning and a nearby tender arrived and took the two men to shore.
They were later flown by helicopter back to Exmouth.
A 22-year-old man and his 23-year-old fishing companion were unhurt in the incident.
Salvage of the boat will be arranged by the owner on the next high tide.

Penguin Island do and don'ts anyone?
Submitted by till on Wed, 2008-11-26 10:31Hi,
just trying to work out what I can and can't do down between Pt Peron & Penguin Island.
I know there is a non-spear zone around the island, but how far out does it go? I was thinking of diving for abalone on a few the reef south of Pt Peron, or for crays off the island.
Is there a no boat-fish zone as well? Just in case we want to have a troll or a cast afterwards?

Soft Plastic rods, no more than 8kg?
Submitted by till on Wed, 2008-11-26 10:23Hi,
not in any particular hurry, but sometime I was thinking of getting a lighter rod for spin, for SPs and a bit of lure chucking. The dropshots have a good rep, but they're alconite guides, whats the next up from there?
I'd probably look to combine it with a stradic 2500 or sol 2500 or the like, any tips appreciated.

Tackle views
Submitted by Quan on Wed, 2008-11-26 09:27Thought i share this link out and see what your thoughts about the below product...would you or would not purchase it, as we have already biodegrable sinks from Kmart, to terminal tackle which will rust if you lost a fish, to some soft plastics which claim would do the same...
http://www.tackletradeworldmagazine.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=74&Itemid=1
I love my fishing and but upon arrival you see all sort of crap around which will be there for quiet a long time, both harzardous to all parties.
My two cent worth...well round it up to five cent, since 1 and 2 is gone..... :)

Tinnie hire in Busselton???
Submitted by Tony Halliday on Wed, 2008-11-26 05:41gents and ladies,
help please??? I'm off to Busselton next week for the week and as I'm towing a caravan down... ( yes I know,,, nasty things vans are, but Mrs T has said no more tents!!!) so that means I can't take the rib down for a bit of a fish.
Any cheap tinnie hire crowds down that way??? lokking for a 3,5~4,2m tinnie with a 15hp that we can bugga around just off shore and catch some fish for the son with. Nothing flash needed.
cheers
Tony

Where Do Sound Pinkies Go??
Submitted by VAGABOND on Mon, 2008-11-24 16:26Does any one know where the big pinkies go from the sound after spawning? Do they just spread out offshore? stay in the sound in deeper water? go out over the shelf? Interesting as you very rare catch them offshore over around the 7kg mark. The most common size seems to be around the 40cm to 60cm I have noticed that it has been like this for most of my 20 odd years of fishing out wide and have only got onto a School of Snapper out wide that have been of similar size to the ones in the Sound once and that was over 20 years ago in 110m of water. Has always puzzled me does any one have any Info??
