Emblem Pro upgrade?
Submitted by kiaser on Tue, 2006-10-31 20:26Used it for the first time on the weekend chucking poppers. A great reel for casting, however after a few hours my only issue is with the handle. My question is... is there an upgrade handle available similiar to saltist 4500 saltiga reels????

Gardies
Submitted by poida on Sun, 2006-10-29 10:02I am back off to Steep Point in 5 weeks time. I would like to take up some fresh gardies as the shop bought ones are quite often expensive and a bit soft. Does anyone know a good spot to chase gardies at the moment??? Preferably NOR and off the land.

Mindarie Night Fish - Saturday 28th - Cancelled
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Fri, 2006-10-27 17:47Saturday: E'ly winds 10/15 knots shifting S/SW 10/15 knots late morning, increasing to 15/23 knots during the afternoon.
Well I'm sorry to say it guys but I think tomorrow is going to be another blow out. I am cancelling Saturday's night fishing as I think safety is paramount and after numerous marine fatalities in the past month or two I don't think it is worth taking risks over. I would still love to meet up with you guys that help make the site what it is, I will try an organise a pub meet for a few weeks time.
Cheers,
Adam

Port Hedland - Fishwrecked Bash
Submitted by Spooled on Fri, 2006-10-27 13:14Well it will be underway in about two hours. The cricket trip / fishwrecked bash is upon us from the boys in South Hedland. It is off to a local island where mudcrabs, dewies, crays, bluebone, trout and hopefully a barra will not survive the weekend.
Will post up many photos on Sunday arvo or Monday for the first Port Hedland/ Fishwrecked gathering. We just thought the northerners should get in on the action.
Spooled up..........

Mindarie Night Fish - DELAYED until 28th October
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Sat, 2006-10-21 11:52The Mindarie Night fishing invitational has been put back until the 28th of October.
The conditions are very hard to determine at the moment as it could go either way. I have just left Observation city and its blowing about 15 knots to the north west with solid whitecaps starting to form. I watched a few boats moving about and they were taking a fair bit of spray and get lurched about the place a bit.
I am thinking for the safety of all involved that tonight isn't the best choice, even though some may wish to brave the conditions, most that I have spoken to have decided to give it a miss until next week where things may improve.
Cheers,
Adam

Night Fishing Invitational - Saturday 21st - 3pm Mindarie Ramp
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Thu, 2006-10-19 16:09Just a reminder that the fishwrecked night fishing invitational is this Saturday the 21st of October, Mindarie Boat Ramp at 3pm.
The plan is to meet in the upper car park a little before 3 to put faces to names. I know a few of you are planning to head out a little earlier to do some exploration, that's all good. The aim is to back at Mindarie Ramp by 10.30pm, with 11pm being the latest.
The weather conditions are the only thing which may cause the night to be delayed until Saturday the 28th. Seabreeze seems to say that it is going to be a good night and BOM is still changing as we speak.
Tomorrow afternoon should give us a good indication of what the conditions are going to be like and if it is a goer. Here's praying to the weatherman that he gives us something to work with.
Cheers,
Adam

Your top 10 fishing locations in WA
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Thu, 2006-10-19 12:12Hi guys,
Had an idea for a thread. Just wondering on where your favourite fishing locations/town/areas are and what you caught there that made it so memorable or keeps you returning. You don't have to put up all 10 if you don't have 10, but I'd love to hear about the places in Western Australia that make the fishing special for you.
Cheers,
Adam
I'll put mine up soon. :)

Something almost spooled me at Lancelin.....what was it..?
Submitted by mako24 on Mon, 2006-10-16 15:02Am new to this forum and fishing in WA in general but hope the veterans here can point me in the right direction.
As the title says, went up to Lancelin with a couple of friends for night fishing and almost got spooled by an unseen monster until the braid broke loose. Bait used was half a squid, unweighted and left to drift with the current from the northern end of the jetty.
The thing just took off and 20lb braid peeled quickly from the spool initially on light drag at a fairly constant speed to the north at first and as the drag was cranked up to almost max (abt 8kgs of drag), it headed straight west taking more line from the spool with no hint of slowing down. It did stop for about 5 secs and went off again when we tried to take some line back but looking at the way we were loosing line, we maxed out the drag and that's how we lost the fish.
The resident Stingray maybe? What do you guys reckon?? Tackle was a 10 kilo spin outfit loaded with 20lb Braid.
Cheers!

Fishing Today 15/10/2006
Submitted by SHizz on Sun, 2006-10-15 12:33Started out to be a prick of a day to be in a small boat, after gettin fairly drenched for a good half hour while tryin to find some ground we headed back a bit closer in and found a nice lump behind out from hillaries, behind little island a few clicks.
Anchored up, burley burley burley and co-fisher caught a massive snook around 90cm on a softie. Left a few floaters out while jarrad persisted with his softie on his little light bcaster and he managed a few scorpian cod and gurnad but we didnt see much action for about an hour when one of my floaters went off. Landed a nice bonito, shortly after mate got a big KG around 53cm followed by my rod going off with a nice dhuhie, after that we also landed a nice pinky i got another KG around the same size on my light tackle too. That was all in out an hour and it quietend down a bit so i grabbed the baitcaster with the softie and dropped down and hook what i think was a sambo, was playin it for about 5 minutes before it broke off the 20lb leader. Was a first for me to hook one inshore on a softie and was great fun while it lasted.
overall turned out to be a pretty good day weather and fishing wise and we were home by 10.30am!

Compulsory Lifejackets
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Sat, 2006-10-14 17:07I heard on the news that they are thinking of making wearing lifejackets compulsory when boating due to the recent fatalities. What is your opinion and do you think the RST (rec skippers ticket) will resolve these issues?
Please keep this discussion constructive as it could serve to be important in the future.

Custom Popper Stick
Submitted by big john on Fri, 2006-10-13 18:40Picked up my custom heavy popper stick from Bluewater Morley today.
Rohan Smith put together a very schmick Calstar 700H for me, featuring all fuji components with blue and silver metallic binding. Look forward to putting some serious bends in it early January next year (Exmouth).
If your looking to get a custom rod done, Rohan's workmanship and rod building knowledge is top shelf.

Internet Caution
Submitted by scott on Thu, 2006-10-12 21:40I read this the other day and thought it was quite interesting....
Some of the bulletin boards on various websites are full of so much crap it is truly alarming - more so because the bulletin boards' anonymity enables people with a vested interest to make comments that they would no way be able to make in a genuinely public domain ie, a letter to the Editor of the magazine, newspapers or any other professional print media.
There, the Editors aware of the rules and regulations about publishing, defamation and slander (written and unwritten), look at each letter or email and consider the legal ramifications or veracity of the comments or statements being made.
Nevertheless, some of it does get through and I would caution readers to view the contents of these Internet bulletin boards with a real "firewall" of scepticism.
Much of what is put out as 'the truth' on these bulletin boards or comes across as first hand experience, is more often than not a load of BS and very often psuedo 'private comment' comes from professional writers working the Internet for Brand A, with instructions to bad-mouth Brand B at every opportunity....several companies are actively working the Internet in this fashion.
Internet bulletin boards can serve as a fantastic forum for the exchange of views, experience and opinions - BUT they are utterly reliant on the experience, wisdom, patience and skill of the moderator to sort the wheat from the chaff, whilst ensuring the threads remain cohesive and focused on the subject of concern.
Bottom line?? Take everything you read on the bulletin boards with a grain of salt - very few of those contributors have anything like the experience they would like you to think they have and frankly it shows.

Mindarie Night Fish - Weather Conditions
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Thu, 2006-10-12 10:03For those signed up for the Mindarie Night Fish next Saturday, I was wondering what conditions would warrant the night being put off until the following week. I just want to make sure that you will all feel safe and confident with going out there. Each skipper has their own opinion on what they deem is acceptable conditions for their own boat so I would just like to know what you guys think.
I know that atleast one of you is in a tinny, what is the worst conditions you feel safe with taking your boat out at night?
