LB Spanish Mackerel
Submitted by Alex15733 on Sun, 2018-02-25 18:19
Hi All, I go to ammo jetty every day i can after school and on the weekend fishing, ive been noticing around sunset everyday people show up and just spin off the end for spanish mackeral with lures. Ive been thinking that now im gonna try it my self because its something different to what i usually fish for on the jetty. So i just mainly need some tips on lures, times, tides etc and also a setup to save for (would a saragosa 8000 be good?)
Thanks Alex

Tailor
Submitted by beachsoul on Sun, 2018-02-25 05:31For my area this year has been dismal for Tailor..... I have fished and lived in this area for many years. My techniques are sound and work when I go to new area's or fish for different species.
Last week we finally got into some good Tailor...not as thick as previous years but some were decent fish over a kilo, enough to put a smile on our faces.
One thing that I have observed is that we are now pulling fish out of parts of the beach where I have never caught fish before and that parts that for many years were never fail hot spots are now empty of fish. Overall their numbers appear to be down by a good half......I think the lower numbers can have several possible causes...
* Seasonal or cyclical changes. That are a normal part of the oceans ever changing moods like water tempretures, poor spawning seasons or some other natural cause.
* Lack of baitfish / food. Their is less bait visable in the water ( People under 50 probably wouldn't have seen a decent school of Whitebait) Herring are less abundant also to the point where I no longer see fisherpeople at some of the old Hotspots. They are visable where I like to fish in reasonable numbers... if I chose to target them im sure I would do ok.
* I have observed Pro fishers row nets around entire schools of Tailor. I'm not pro bashing here It happened so that needs to be included into the mix.
* Over fishing by recreational anglers....I'm sure that this does happen. I have'nt seen a crazy run of just legal choppers for a long time and this is where some anglers used to get greedy but in my personal recent experience I have not seen many people doing well on the Tailor in my locality. Possibly due to the techniques they are using and lack of local knowledge. Personally we only keep one or two fish each so if 3 go we would keep a maximum of 6 fish, but often less by choice.
So what has been going on where you fish. Are you doing well on Tailor. Are the numbers up or down from previous seasons.
I would love to hear from some fellow Tailor fisherpeople as to there experiences, observations.... and maybe suggestions to improve things if you think that is neccessary.

Crabbing in Perth Metro area
Submitted by RJV on Sat, 2018-02-24 13:57Hi All,
Firstly thanks for the add..... tot he moderators...
And my question:
My to girls (4 and 2) are mad keen to catch some blue swimmer crabs, normally we buy them but keen to let them have some fun catching and cooking a few.
Hopefully it will start a love of fishing and crabbing for their future.
I rember I used to dive for them somewhere on the river around South Perth but that was many years ago.
Wondering if anyone could point me to a good spot that might give up a few crabs for them.... and the best time to try with some nets...... and the best bait to be used.
Thank you all heaps In Advance
RJV

Christmas Island
Submitted by samd on Fri, 2018-02-23 05:11G’day guys,
I’m in the early stages of planning a trip to Cocos and Christmas Islands in September/October this year.
I have read the Fishing is mind blowing at Christmas Island!
Looking for any advice... are there any land base options for throwing lures? Any recommended charter operators that do single days that won’t leave me crippled in debt?
Long shot, but is there anyone out there willing to take an extra set of hands in exchange for some cash?
I know my way around a boat, have a 640 myself and have fished extensively over my whole life!
Feel free to PM me also!
Cheers!
Sam

New boat
Submitted by still trying on Tue, 2018-02-20 06:37Hi guys not sure if this is in the right section but u was very lucky over the weekend and my dad bought me a 2003 4.2 m stessel with a 30hp cv yamaha. I am over the moon all he has asked is that when i sell what i have to give him the money which will be less than half what he paid. I haven't taken the boat out yet hopefully today or tomorrow for a quick run after work. I have read some mixed reeveiws on the internet about the engine oiling up the plugs after only afew minutes at idle but there are also reviews sayibg that they have no problems. Does anyone else have one of these motors and what have you found?

just wondering if anyone out there has a hydrofoil 400 se. Comes with disc grips so don’t have to drill holes. Thinking of getting one rather than the 300 se to help Boat stay on plane at low speeds. Any feedback would be great. Throwing it on a 60hp merc

After being unable to start it and investigation this is the condition I found the fuel filter and sparkplugs in. I would've thought that both the fuel filter and sparkplugs would be replaced.

Friday bash
Submitted by sea-kem on Sun, 2018-02-18 21:05So the decision was made to hit it Friday and the wind and weather gods were smiling. Was a weird current with the light winds going one one and the current the other but you soon adapt. The morning was slow until around 11 when I finally nailed a good fat Baldy that kept chasing my bait when I time the hit perfectly and hooked him up. Quite once again with lots of pickers so decided to rig up a small Wrasse rig to get a couple up for bait, well as Murphy's law will have it drop the line down on my lightest kit a couple of little nibble and whack! Big fish on size 3 hook and a bit of Occy the size of half a prawn. Anyway slowly but surely started to gain some ground on the big boy before he spat the hook (edit the feet stamping tantrum lol) Anyway the bugger was hungry and hit my other heavier set up, no get away on that one as I made sure the hooks were set. Don't you just love that first colour and the silver flash knowing you have a cranking Banger on. Just a smick over 10kg. Days Bag 2 Baldies, 2 Dhue and 5 crays Happy days!
