Coral Bay in a dinghy
Submitted by Piggy on Sun, 2023-10-01 13:35Seeing if anyone can help, willing to swap some coordinates if anyone is keen.
Heading up to Coral Bay and will have the roof top tinny on the car, hoping if the weather plays nice we can get out to a decent depth to catch something decent. Never fished out off coral bay before and obviously being limited with a dinghy hoping someone may be able to point me in the right direction on where to go or even willing to swap a few coordinates with someone if your keen.
Looked on the search bar and got a bit of info but yeah if anyone else could give me some info would be greatly appreciated
Cheers

Submitted by Pezdog on Thu, 2023-09-28 22:00Hey all
Just after info whether Crab Creek in Broome is accessible by 2WD and fishable from walking distance? Had a look on some maps but it's quite tricky to read the quality of road and whether the spots are any good.

Jigging hookup rates
Submitted by fishfish on Thu, 2023-09-28 20:43 Righto guys need some help from all the jiggers out there . Have dropped the bait for nearly a year now and have been having pretty good success in finding them or inticing them to bite but have been having the worst luck in landing them !! This is starting to get beyond a joke ! I somehow mange to pull the hooks somewhere between initial hookup and say 10m off the bottom. Some of the fish have been very respectable taking good drag on quality overhead outfits .
So my question, do any of you guys have a preference for hook types or sizes ? Do you upgrade them ? Bigger ? Singles ? Twins ? I've been sticking with the assist's sold with the jigs ( quality jigs in all the popular brands ) thinking they should be matched .
I have also noticed that some tend to tangle ( more so the smaller twins ) either above the jig on the leader or around the jig body .
Is this unusual hookup rate normal for jigging as the fish tend to swipe at the jig out of aggression and may tend to get jagged or am I doing something wrong??
Cheers for any tips Carl ..

Day Dawn & Holdfast
Submitted by timboon on Thu, 2023-09-28 07:27I see there has been a new bigger and better cray boat built since Day Dawn, Holdfast....
Does anyone know what Holdfast cost to build?
I'm guess 1.5-2m but that's a wild stab.
Could be over 2m...

Shark bay dhufish
Submitted by Moondog on Tue, 2023-09-19 20:52How does everyone go in shark bay are there a few dhufish around? Been stopping past the karrinyup seafood shop lately and they have had a fair amount of shark bay dhu? Am I thinking too much into this? Can a pro boat off-load in shark bay and say they were caught locally? It bloody sucks walking in and seeing this thinking we can't go out and catch them ourselves.

Trout Skin Crackling
Submitted by tcarroll on Wed, 2023-09-13 08:56Went for a flick on Sunday afternoon off the rocks with a little gillies metal lure (halco twistys getting expensive!) trying to pick up a small trevally or something because I was craving some sashimi.... Managed to pick up a trout that was just sized which was a nice surprise!
Made great sashimi and I also tried trout skin crackling for the first time which I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty/easy it was.... Curious to know if you can do the same with any other fish? I was thinking the smaller estuary cod seem to have reasonbly similar skin & small scales once you get the slime off??

Back on the road again.
Submitted by Silver Fox on Wed, 2023-09-06 05:32After living the Torres Straight and FNQ lifestyle for the last three years we're on the mooove again. Not being one to do things by halves Mrs Silver Fox has landed a sweet gig in Darwin. I've been flat out renovating and getting our house on the market and currently getting the fat duck and her ever faithful tow vehicle ready for another interstate road trip. At three thousand kilometers it's half the distance of the last one....:D Have spent a fair bit of time servicing both the truck and trailer in preparation for departure in the near future. At least I'm not going to be punching into the dreaded south easterlies. This time it's going to be a tailwind the whole way. Can't wait for some NT boating and fishing action!.

Closure excludes September/October school holidays
Submitted by sunshine on Sun, 2023-09-03 13:35Is it just me or is everyone confused. The new rules state that the closure EXCLUDES the upcoming school holidays but what precisely does that mean as Private Schools have a different commencement date of holidays to those of Public schools so when precisely can we actually fish.
