Trolling in october

Was thinking of giving trolling a go for mackies over the ban.Do you think it's to early?I remember they usually start turning up around this time?

Any advice would be great.

Troll Soft Plastics?

Just wondering if anyone has ever trolled with soft plastics and had any success?  I cant see why you couldnt but looking around it doesnt seem to be common practice?

Woodman Point Mullys

Has anyone heard any reports of mullys around woodman point?

people killing sharks posing threats to people

why are they going to kill protected species they dont come on to land and kill us so why do we kill them

Swan Mulloway?

Has anyone heard any reports lately? Thinking of giving it a go.

Dermersal ban

Just a bit of clarification. Can we still fish till midnight tonight? Or is today the first day of the ban?

Another Jigging Newby!

G'day People!

Haven't been a fishwrecked member for long but have been reading up on all the reports and really enjoying it all!

I have fished me whole life with baits, never plastics (unless trawling of course). I have done fine over the years with this but you sort of get the feeling after a while you are living under a rock only using one 'style' of fishing. So with the demersal ban coming in this week I think now is probably the best time to do some research on the ever popular jigging so that when the ban comes of I can be ready to have a crack at it!

Being a complete noob at this I just have a few questions I would like help with.

I would like to set up a 'jig pack' that I can use down here in perth and also on trips away (up north etc). Yes I have my own boat and no I don't particulary wana spend all my dollars on this adventure (some of it though).

With all that said What sort of rod/reel combo with line type poundage etc shall I need. Is it better to have smaller overhead combos or larger egg beaters?

That being said I also obviously have no idea what to use in terms of jigs. So I'm not going to ask a thousand Q's on that because that would take too bloody long! I live SOR and am just wondering if anyone can suggest a good tackle shop to go into and have a chat with someone who can help set me up in that department. Also if a need to get another combo to add to the many I already have they can help me with that as well (the wife has more pairs of shoes than I have rods so I never get in trouble hehe)

Any help would be much appreciated and we shall see if I can get some good outcomes in the new year!

Cheers

Dwellingup

Hey guys I'm heading to dwellingup in November and I was wondering what areas I should try for Redfin, I'm not asking for any exact spots just areas to try. Also what lures to use.

cheers for any responses guys,

snapper_seeker

snapper rule

hey guys just wondering about 2 things

1) if i can catch snapper outside the sound during the ban (behind garden island) and then fish within the sound for other fish and  have possesion of snapper, can i get done for this ? as me and my mate had a arguement not too long ago

2) what happens if someone catches a snapper in the sound i would assume hook removed in the water and the snapper not brought into the boat ?

haha long nights fishing for sharks arguments are the best way too pass time with mates

No luck

Fished for 3 hours around shelly bridge today and caught nothing,no bites or anything
Was using Squidgy wriggler in a light brown redy color
And my dad was using the same
what am i doing wrong?

New McArthy Softplastic colours - Just arrived

McArthys are one of our favourite softplastics for sure. Their range is always expanding especially in a market where artificials are becoming very popular.

Ryan uses them alot with filming Fishing WA and also works in conjunction with McArthy on introducing new models and colours etc

Two new colours and available in Paddle Tail 4 inch/5 inch/6 inch at the moment.

Colour #1 is " Cherry Ice "

This colour is very nice indeed with a translucent pink body and glitter particles mixed in. This colour is shit hot but once out in the light especially in the water its awesome.

Colour #2 is " Lavender "

This colour is very nice also with a pearl blue top section (colour is a little lighter than the picture) and the base colour is a silver sparkle finish. This colour is shit hot also but like above once out in the light especially in the water its awesome.

Side by side picture;

* Photos dont do these new colours justice so pop in and have a look.

* FW discount's apply and we have a large selection of McArthy softplastics and others.

What's she worth?

After a memorable 6 years, lookin for a new property, and bubs just arrived, it's time to sell the tub.

I'll still have the dinghy, and free run of any of the old mans boats, but I can't see my boat getting the use it deserves for a while. Problem is, I really don't know what to ask for her. It doesn't really owe me anything, and she has served me more than well, anything from the fads and beyond, to just chasing squid and whiting, it's the perfect all rounder. Easy for anyone to solo launch and retrieve.

Specs are:

6m 1995 seacraft Ali hull (WA build)

Oct 2010 Suzuki 115 4 stroke with about 120 hours ($15k bought new) just had 100 hour service

Furuno 620 sounder and lowrance 7 inch colour plotter ( with over 200 of MY spots from Albany to exxy....)

Cobra VHF and gme stereo

2 x 80L stainless steel cruisetank fuel tanks (about 160mile/ 300km range)

Fully rigged Outriggers

Licensed and well maintained dual axle trailer ( no brakes though, as boat comes in under 1750kgs)

All new tyres (including retrieval wheel/spare) in 2009

All clears, windscreen, and canopy custom made in 2008

All new nav lights, LED deck light, 2 x bilge pumps, etc, fully rewired when new outboard fitted in 2010 + new carpet

All safety gear - ebirb, flares, life jackets, etc.

I think most of you have seen my catches on her over the years. Everything from jumbo Crays, sambo jigging, BIG dhuies, to dollies and metro mackies, she's good for it all, and all spots are included. Im just in the process of getting some minor fatigue cracks re-welded on the keel and hull, and it definately could do with a repaint, but its aesthetics never worried me, as its usually covered in blood anyway ;). it's ride has never been smooth (a lot of 90's boats are so), but it is definitely a very sea worthy boat. It's got me where I wanted and back (sometimes in ridiculously stupid conditions), every time, and never once have I doubted it wouldnt. Very stable at speed and rest, and has fark-loads of deck space.

I reckon it'd be good if a few young guys wanted to team up and buy, for a good starter into boat fishing, as its capable of anything the west coast has to offer, and can handle a bit of rough and tumble.

I'll put up some more photos when I power up the laptop, but what do you reckon it's worth??

Anyone fished Hill River beach ?

Hi all, headed up to Hill River beach next month,( just sth of Jurien) for an overnight fishing trip. Havent been before and was looking for info

Graffiti on Fibre glass boats

Some little shits decided it would be a good idea to add some more colour to the side of my boat last night..............if only i had of caught them. Just so happens to be the one night the dog isnt here.... everytime someone has gone near the boat she has let me know about it.

Got no idea what drives kids do to this shit. Im sure if it were my car parked outside, they wouldnt have even thought about tagging it.

Anyone know what can remove permenant marker and nail polish by the looks of it from firbe glass?? Did try boat bleach but didnt seem to do much.

Not having much luck with vandals and theifs lately, might be time to consider moving it to secure boat storage soon.

Bodie

No flatties today

With the weather starting to warm up i'm keen to go flick for flatties. I haven't been keeping record but from memory i think i've actually done better on a falling tide, anyone else noticed the same (or opposite)?

*EDIT: had a go at north freo this morning around high tide, not a touch tho. Anyone catching 'em yet? cmoooooon summer.

Kalbarri Report 2012

So I left for Kalbarri on Sunday the 7th for a 6 day trip.  We loaded the car up the night before so we could get away at 5.00 the next morning so we could get to Geraldton just in time for breakfast at Maccas :) We arrived in Kalbarri at 12.30 and as soon as we checked in to our cabin at Murchison Caravan Park we were off to find a spot to fish that night. This is how the 6 day trip went ..

SUNDAY - As we had just arrived, we decided to go for a fish in the river which looked much healthier then last year when I was there. unfortunately the river was very shallow and we had no luck. even though no fish were caught it was still a great night as the whales started jumping a few hundred metres off shore.

MONDAY - On monday we went out with Reefwalker Charters. The strong winds and 2m+ swell made for an uncomfortable ride out but soon the wind died down and we could start to fish. The first few hours went by with no fish caught except 2 coral trout. Unfortunately i wasn't the one to catch them. we moved spots many times until finally I had a tug on my line. After a little fight, a nice 54cm pink snapper came to the surface. After a few photos the fish was put on ice and I was ready to start fishing again. I dropped straight back down and again hooked up to a fish. this one felt a bit bigger and the head shakes made it obvious that I was on to a bigger pink snapper. after another little fight a 58cm pinkie came up. The 58cm pinkie is the biggest pinkie i have ever caught so I was pretty happy.

TUESDAY - We decided that we would go for a beach session at Red Bluff. After arriving at the beach we realised that with 50km/h+ winds and massive swell that it would be a bit difficult to fish there. After about 20 minutes we decided to head to Chinamens.  We got there and there was virtually no wind. I put out a mullie hoping for a mulloway but no luck. once again, nothing was caught.

WEDNESDAY - On wednesday we did the Canoe Safari down the river and as we were going we were looking for fishing spots. after speaking to the guides we found some great spots that we would like to come try. So an afternoon session it was! We headed around 9km up river to a spot that looked promising. After a few casts, my dad, my cousin, my uncle and literally everyone fishing was catching bream. I wasn't catching anything and it stayed like that for the whole session. A few little mulloway were caught along with lots of black bream and tarwhine, nothing too big though.

THURSDAY - On thursday we went back to the same spot on the river for what was another great session with a few 35cm+ bream and some mulloway. A few bream were kept due to not releasing well. It was a very productive day even though the flies were in there millions! On thursday night we went to the boat jetty just for a little flick around to see what was there. We landed a few finger mark and a lot of small bream and tarwhine whilst a few young blokes pulled out a 45cm mulloway.

FRIDAY - Friday was the last day for us :( We hired a little tinny from the boat hire place and took it up river fishing snags on the way up. We stopped at some rocks near castle rock and first cast my cousin caught a nice fish that put a bend in his bream rod. Unfortunately we don't have a clue what it was so I will post a picture below. We then moved from these rocks to a nice bit of beach with heaps of snags and once again caught lots of little bream and tarwhine. After a 20 minute fish we got back on the boat and moved again. We moved further up river and found the perfect spot with a massive drop off and a big tree in the water. We knew we would find bigger bream there. First cast and I was snapped off by what looked like the biggest bream I've ever seen. I re-tied my rig and got straight back in the water and once again hooked up to a big bream, this time actually landing it. The bream wasn't that big but still a nice size. We continued to fish until finally heading back into Kalbarri to drop the boat off.

SATURDAY - Over all I had a great trip. The fishing wasn't as good as we anticipated but I got my first and largest pinkie and got onto some nice fish. Now I'm sitting in the car trying to pass some time by writing this. 6 hour car trips are not fun. I hope you had a good read. :)

Crabbing

Hey Guys and Gals

I was wondering if any 1 would know about crabbing in cockburn sound it is closed till the middle of December, but i have been told that the sound ends at Carnac with a straight line into the coast if this was the case i should be able to crab north of this line, does any 1 know if this is right or not. I know it is not the ideal time but i have some bait to get out of me freezer.

And has any 1 done any crabbing down Bremmer Bay way and what times of the year would be the best?

Cheers Rusty
