A real fishing story
Submitted by JohnF on Sun, 2011-02-20 09:37Well, early morning tailor sess with the FW lads (Daz, Chrisp and Schecky...TimVB no show) this morning.
Fished for an hour around dawn flicking stickbaits, poppers, metals and full mulies.......one possible tailor touch and one hezza between the 4 of us.................dolphins did better...............now thats a real fishing story.
Bacon and eggs on the BBQ and freshly brewed flat white afterwards more than made up for it.
Fishing aint always all about catching fish.......good company and a few laughs still makes a great morning.

Sure there are some pics around. Certainly heaps of knackered fishermen at the end of a long long day.

Geo Bay Tuna
Submitted by Seaquest on Sat, 2011-02-19 19:09Heard a rumor that there was a few tuna being caught in the bay, so I decided to go for a troll early this morning.
Weather was crap and confidence wasn't too high.
After trolling from Castle Rock to Quarries without even a sniff I decided to call it a day and head home.
On the way home I spotted dolphins caving up some bait fish so decided to give it another go.
Within minutes of trolling around the dolphins I was on and sure enough it was a nice tuna.
Caught 6 in all and then headed home with 2 in the eske on ice for a few friends to have a feed tonight.

4000 size reel for beach and light boat
Submitted by spanishmackeral on Sat, 2011-02-19 16:37hey guys im just looking for some advice for a 4000 size spinning reel that i will most likely (unless anyone begs to differ) match it with a starlo stix 902 for beach fishing, including anything up to tailor and salmon. i will also pair it with a 5-10kg, and about 7 foot rod for light boat casting.
these are the reels ive looked at so far, the prices are ebay:
Penn Conquer CQR4000 - $190
Shimano Saragosa 4000F - $187
Shimano Stradic CI4 4000F - $210
Shimano Sustain 4000 FE + spare spool - $250
Shimano Thunnus CI4 4000 - $260
im not sure wether to run 20 or 30lb braid, if its got a spare spool i will have 10lb mono on that.
keen to hear any advice and experiences on these reels or if theres another reel out there around the same price that will be better.
cheers rob

Anglers blast Council on Busselton Jetty fishing ban
Submitted by Tony Halliday on Fri, 2011-02-18 11:10http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/wa/8865790/anglers-blast-jetty-fishing-ban/
quote"
The Shire of Busselton has banned fishing off the last 150m of Busselton jetty, enraging local anglers who have waited 12 years to cast a line off the end of the 1.8km structure.
South West recreational fisherman Howard George said the council decision, made just days after the jetty was officially reopened on February 2, had banned a tradition enjoyed by generations of locals.
The end of the jetty has been off limits for the past 12 years following a 1999 fire that destroyed much of its last section. The structure has since been rebuilt at a cost of more than $27 million.
Mr George said anglers targeted pelagic fish such as blue fin tuna and tailor as they travelled past the end of the jetty and the ban would mean the chance of bagging a big fish would be lost to locals who did not own a boat......( more in article)"
I was really looking forward to one day fishing the end of the jetty for those tuna they got back in the 70's before the cyclone and fires took the end off.
Very sad to see that fishing concerns where not taken into account in a ruling that favours only divers and observers at the UWO. Being allowed to fish 50m west of the OWC would have been a great boon to the area and even paying a special admission to get beyond the OWC to fish would have been ok.

Anti fouling
Submitted by dallasthedog on Fri, 2011-02-18 09:23
I have just purchased a 1994 710 Leeder. The hull needs to be cleaned and antifouled. I had a quote from FSC to lift the boat and clean it (no antifouling) for $400 but that seesm steep to me. Can enyone reccomend an antifouling company that I could use. The boat is penned in East Freo but can be trailered.
Thanks in advance

Todays Report out wide
Submitted by eltaco on Thu, 2011-02-17 20:17Hi all went out wide today of hilarys in search of the metro marlin to no availe but had a good day on the blue anyway . Got 6 blue fin on the troll on the way out all around 4kgs then had 4 rods go off and my missus got a 6kg ripper on a small rod which was a good fight dropped somethin large which gave the torium 50 a good work out. On the way back found the furuno fad which had massive schools of good size mahi mahi which sent the boat into a mess with lures and plastics going everywhere tryin everything and they would follow them right up to the boat suss whatever we had going and swim off very stressful is live baiting the best way for them because they where not hittin anything . All in all good day little choppy but good to be out there
