I've been going mulla fishing probably once a fortnight over the last 2 summers for no success.

But....... the rays!

Been using strip baits, whole dead herring or yellowtail and livies if I can get them.

Tried the river, metro beaches and rockwalls and caught nothing but rays... LOTS of rays.

Sometimes 3 or 4 in a session

Just wondering if some of the experienced mulla fisho's could tell me how many rays you have to deal with before you can expect a mulla?

Also, weed report on s-bend/flatrock ?

 hey guys i have finally bought a real boat (5m barron sportsman) and am in need of a marine stereo to liven the day up 

anyone one got any recomendations i dont want to spend big dollars as i will probley up grade to a newer ali boat soonish

also if anyone has on they want to get rid of that would be sweet

sounds like there are a few squid out at the momment ,just wondering whats the best time to chase them. either morning noon or night does it matter at all. i live in warnbro , would be great to take the 2 boys out whilst we r all on holidays.

Hey guys,

I have just started diving and was keen to try diving for the swan river prawns at bicton baths.

Am i right in thinking they area there all year? or are there seasons for them?

I know about netting them and that is start of winter but are there better times for diving and catching them with a hand net.

any info would be appreciated.

Can you guys please help me im thinking in buying a kayak but im worried about being attacked by a shark lol, is there alot of shark attacks on kayak fishermen around hillarys and jurien bay basically around WA? if so i might just stay on shore.

looking to buy a Saltiga LD to target a variety of fish, eg Trout, Dhuies, Tuna, Cod, Sambos

anything big and inbetween, using a variety of techniques eg bottom bouncing, jigging, trolling, LBG

Most of my fishing has been limited to landbased Tailor, Salmon, Bream, Flathead.

So I have not had much experience in the selection of line class, drag settings and the expected length of a fishs run

for these bigger species.

I am looking to use 50-60 pound braid and rule of thumb says that the drag should be about 1/3.

Just wonding what you guys and gals typically use for drag settings when targeting Trout, Dhuies, Tuna, Cod, Sambos

and how much line do these bigger fish run with when hooked. How much line should be on the reel for chasing these fish.

going to do a bit of snorkelling around my jetski tomoro in an attempt to catch some crabs just wondering if i need some kind of flag up. dive flag perhaps? not sure if its necessary or not... can anyone help me out?

Hey all.

Just wondering if anyone has got a feed of crabs down Mandurah way lately?  I remember reading a report a couple of weeks back that there were heaps down there but not many sized ones.  Is it a bit easier to get a feed yet?  I'll be heading down anyway with a couple of mates so we'll see how we go.  I've never tried, but I thought I might take some snorkel gear with me this time and have a crack at diving for them?  Am I likely to have a better chance at that then using drop nets?

Hi all, I have been up here for about a year producing some good results with lure flicking?trolling etc...The one thing I am trying to find out more about is 'Locating Trippletail' within the Karratha area?

I cannot seem to find them, but found them quite easily off the Anchor bouys around Broome.  Can anyone point me in a 'rough' direction of where tey may have had some luck hittin them????

Im looking into jumping into my rodeo and heading north leaving my boat at home to hit up some LB fishing for a week after new years. I keep hearing reports that the winds are pretty strong this time of year, but was wondering if it is still ok to stick to LB. If it is where would you recommend going would love to hit up some queenies, spanglys actually pretty much anything i can.

Weve not long moved over here to Bunbury from QLD (dont hold that against me tho :P) Our family loves fishing we're getting withdrawal symtoms atm...done a little beach/rock fishing too keep the kids amused. Caught some toad fish...seaweed oh and a stick :)

Really looking forward to doing a few charters and catching a "Dhu fish" or 2...looks like a pearl perch on steroids to me...im game.

I am heading to Perth on holiday from 24th Decemeber to 1st January and then to Kalbarri from 2nd January to 7th January.

I have never caught either of the above species, and would love to do so. Some folks have already been very helpful with information, but i was wondering if any can advise on any good locations to catch the above fish from the shore, or could avise me on good baits, rigs etc.

Hi Guys

I am looking at heading up to Cervantes and as there is no boat ramp what is it like to launch/retreive a medium to large boat . 

I have a 26ft F/glass boat with a small 3t truck to tow with does anyone know if this would be ok on Cervantes beach to retreive as the beach drops off quickly (so I am told) worried that the trailer tyes would get me stuck on the beach.

Has anyone on this site done this 

Is there guys with tractors on the beach or at the town center to help ?

With the upcoming demersal ban lifting tomorrow, not that the weather is going to be any good for fishing , and myself being new to fishing for these bigger fish, I was wondering what's the best and most humane way to dispatch a large fish?

For smaller fish, I use the 'knife between the eyes' technique, then slit the throat to bleed them....can't see this working too well with big jewies, snapper, mackeral, etc, as they've got a much harder skull!

Any recommendations on sunnies for LB fishing?

I did have a pair of Fuglies but they were pinched out of my vehicle with my GPS unit!

I'm not intereted in paying for designer names for now reason other than to be 'cool'.

I want a decent pair of polarised glasses that alllow me to really see below the surface, and preferably scrath reistant

I'm aware there are sponsors on this site that deal with sunnies but I'm reaaly after sunnies that suit my purpose rather than ONLY supporting a sponsor and not being satisfied with my purchase.

If I can do both then well and good!

I am heading down to around Harvey estuary this weekend, with some overseas visitors, and thought it would be fun trying to wade/scoop for crabs. The only problem with that is, I've never done it before. So not wanting to look like an idiot, I thought I would check with the knowledgable people on this board for some tips. (I did the search and found a bit of info). My questions are really just: Is it just as easy as wading around with a scoop net on a pole, grabbing crabs as you see them? Can anyone tell me a good spot on the Harvey estary? and finally what is the best time of day to do this?

Any info is much appreciated.

 Slept over at a mates house and was hoping for a morning spot of flats fishing.

Slept in a little much so didn't really get out until 9-30, well past low tide.

Was fishing between the sea scout club and caning bridge for about an hour and a half

without luck before deciding the wind was too strong to continue.

So we headed under the bridge hoping for some bream and we got into the action straight away.

Throwing my lure into a patch of deep water after a couple of cranks of the handle it got smashed.

I hooked up and pulled in an average sized tailor, about 27-28cms. That was the only fish the whole day

and we packed up after that. It was one of my first times lure fishing so I'm not too surprised we didn't get

much.

 hey i want to go to point peron friday arvo and wanting some advise where to fish? chasing tailor first then going to put a shark line out?

After finishing school with lots of spare time on my hands i decided to head to my Uncles house for a few days fishing the Dawesville Cut.

I got down there one afternoon and immediately went down to try for some herring. I only caught about ten herring as they were hard to come by which is unusual for the cut. I then went for a squid down at the Jolly frog. I ended up with 3 squid - 2 good size ones and one decent. These were all taken on a hand-me-down old yozuri jig. With the incoming tide it made squid quite simple as the tide would hold it off the bottom and i continually pulsed the rod.

I then made my way down to the Jolly frog the next morning at around 11am. I saw a teenager with qualtiy gear hook up and loose a salmon trout under the pylons of the bridge and having 20 gram twisties on me i raced over there and 1st cast had a hook-up and landed a nice little salmon on my sienna with 6lb fins. That session in an hour i landed 10 fish releasing 6 and taking four home for dinner. These fish were feed exactly on the change of tide from outgoing swinging to the incoming. Accurate precise casting was needed and the a ultrafast retrive would entice the strike.
I fished for these salmon for 3 days in total releaing over 24 fish and keeping 12. The halco 20 gram was key as they 10 gram wouldnt get down to the fish. Using this method i also caught 2 undersize tailor at midday! I also had a berkley attack rod snap on one of these salmon must have been faulty cos i wasnt high sticking. Also when cleaning these salmon the stomach contents revealed fresh whole river prawns showing that the prawns are moving about and also whitebait.

I had a set routine and would squid almost every night and caught 10 squid over 3 nights ( i only have photos of the first 3 - due to teh mess they made i cleaned the rest at the jetty)

I also fished the afternoon for king george i ended up with 4 undersize ones over 2 sessions and my uncle got one size.

Night fishing off the Jolly Frog was producing many tailor all around 30cm with one specimen close to 40-43cm caught.
Other by catch species where small skippy and tarwhine.

Tons of Blue manna crabs would come through at night all mostly undersize but a good sign to see for stocks. Crab were that plentiful that they were regularly being caught on fishing line.

After i returned from mandurah me and some mates wet a line at night at ascot with big mulla baits soaking and small rods out for bream. I landed one Bream around 25-6 cms and there were 3 bite offs on our bream gear presumably tailor. My whole yellowtail had a decent what looked to be tailor bite out of it too. Which has now tempted me to fish for tailor down there :P
