Submitted by Colin Hay on Tue, 2010-12-21 07:15A little birdy told me that Fishwrecked's own professional tailor fisherman, Sherbs, cleaned up this morning - bagging out before 6 am on some big tailor. Lucky bastard.

Okuma X Factor rods
Submitted by Wet Dreams on Mon, 2010-12-20 18:20Hi all,
Trying to decide between 2 rods for a new combo and just after some advice/reviews. The reel will be a Stradic 5000 and deciding between the Starlo Stix 9ft shorespin and the Okuma X Factor 9ft.
So was just wondering peoples thoughts on the X Factor rods? I've got a starlo Stix on my bream setup and have been very pleased with the performance but never used an Okuma rod before.
Cheers Sam.

New Battery For Boat?
Submitted by wazzbat on Mon, 2010-12-20 16:25Hey fellow fishos.
I am looking at getting a new battery for the old boy's boat for Xmas. The one in there at the moment is getting a bit old and doesn't hold it's charge too well these days. Personally I think it is something on the boat where money should not be an issue because without a battery, the motor won't start. In saying that, I don't want to get ripped off either. Just after some advice on what to buy? It is a 5.3m Trailcraft runabout and I'm not sure what sort of battery is in there at the moment? Anything to look out for in a battery? And where is a good place to buy one?
Cheers.

Help required regarding new setup.
Submitted by daboogeyxen on Sun, 2010-12-19 23:30Hey guys,
Im thinking of a new setup for bottom bashing and some general jigging and trolling. I'm really torn between these 2 setups that are offered to me within my budget.
Setup 1 :
Accurate Boss BX2 (400, 500, 500N, 600) with a matching Smith rod rated Pe 4-8
Setup 2 :
JM Pe6 overhead reel with a matching JM Powerspell Pe 3-6
If anyone had any experience with either reels I would LOVE to know your input in this matter.
Cheers!

Which is the best boat for WA conditions: Centre Console or Cabin?
Submitted by Grooveepants on Sun, 2010-12-19 22:18I'm trying to weigh up which boat to go for and thought I'd ask the fishwrecked crew for their opinion as I'm sure you all own both.
Centre Console:
Pros - Heaps of deck space, more storage compartments, can chase the fish around the boat, can leave the wives to talk shit at the front while the blokes fish and talk more shit at the back
Cons - may get wet when windy, less protection from the sun, less protection from the wind (especially the cold winds in winter), nowhere to sleep if you do a stint at Rotto, do they handle the WA seas as well as a cabin?
Cabin:
Pros - more protection from the sun and wind, somwhere to sleep when doing a overnighter at Rotto, do they handle the WA seas better than a CC?
Cons - less deck space and less storage compartments, if its a walk around then I guess you can chase the fish around the boat.
Any other pros and cons you can think of?
Who has bought a cabin with the intention of sleeping in it and hasn't? Does the cabin just get all the crap thrown into it and really never gets used and therefore just wastes valuable fishing deck space???
Do the CC have as good of a ride as the cabins and are they as dry and as comfortable against the elements?
I haven't been on a decent sized one of either of these boats so I dont' know what the difference is between the rides.
I realise the ride also comes down to the model you purchase.

Water vis this week for diving
Submitted by Oracle on Sun, 2010-12-19 21:57Gang,
Anyone's guess to how the water will be this week? Low swell so I assume clear water and good visability? With the cloud cover, should you stick to shallower dives? Hopeing to get out a bit this week but never dived with so much wind turning and cloud cover. Any words of wisdom would be great.

Best lures for the north west
Submitted by PattyT on Sun, 2010-12-19 10:24Hi guys, as some of you may or not know im heading up to Broome for two weeks in June next year. Ill be chasing pretty much all the fish available up there, but specificaly some big spaniads and trevs. I was just wondering what some of the best lures to use in the north west are? Whether it be poppers, stickbaits, minnows, soft plactics... everything. Bare in mind that we'll be doing a fair bit of trolling around as well casting. I'v already starting stocking up on a few bits and pieces but ill be very interested to hear what you guys have to say.
Thanks in advance guys!! You havnt let me down thus far :)

Duie-rien Bay on Seasport Tackle & Charters
Submitted by abeldog on Sun, 2010-12-19 08:13Well it started like this
Hey Whitey the Ban is about to finish any spots left on your boat, fully booked Thursday 16th Dec, Friday 17th Dec however two spots left for Saturday 18th Dec. "Great Ill take both".
Got intouch with Hookt and we were off to Jurien Bay. Left Perth at 6.00pm on Friday for the 2.5HR journey, stopped to feed Hookt ( he is like Bam Bam from the Flinstones ).
All the way up we planned what we were going to do, Upack the car, get the gear ready, check the gear, check it again, organise food, sleep and be ready at 4.00am etc etc, Got into Jurien at 8.30 and what did we do??
Straight to the Marina to see what was happening a howling Easterly and an old timer catching herring and tailor. Pulled up next to him chatted, he invited us to use his handlines to catch fish. Hookt took it up, I pulled out the Monster Mesh with the twinpower 5000 PE3 out and started casting a Rapala Stickbait talk about OVERKILL, Boy did we have fun catching small herring and tailor, exchanged stories and laughed at bullshit jokes.
Got to bed at 1.30am on Sat and got up at 3.30am, Loaded the gear and done to the Marina again.
Whitey arrived on time and we were off at exactly 4.30am through the heads and first lines in by 5.30am in a howling SE and 2m Swells.
Hard Day at the office but Whiteys Knowledge and Experience came to the fore assisted by Matt the Deckie.
Overall, Snapper, Dhuies, Baldies and other bottom bashing species came on board and we bagged out by 11.00am.
Hookt vrs Abeldog (Keepers Fishing Comp)
Hookt 2 x Snapper (73cm and 77cm), Abeldog 1 x Duie (85cm) 1 x Baldie (5kg)
Merry Xmas All and a Happy and Prosperous New Year

Pflueger...any good??
Submitted by Joodles on Sat, 2010-12-18 20:15
Hey Guys, just interested to hear any opinions on Pflueger gear. The reason I'm curious is I was short of a little spinner on a Barra trip to Darwin a few years ago so I picked up a 'Pflueger Trinity' for (i think) about $90 at the local BCF. I've since pulled in Barra, small mackerel & shark and dhuie on SP with the Trinity and love it, faultless little beater with a sweet drag.
You just don't hear so much about the brand so would be good to hear your opinions.
Cheers

Submitted by Shane O on Sat, 2010-12-18 19:06Hi,
my motor is playing up on me, started this morning at the jetty no problems. Then we went to leave and nothing, i have power as the radio and fishfinder all worked fine. The motor also tilted up and down, but trying to turn the motor over =nothing. We got towed back to the ramp, and just as we got there it started. i then turned it off and tried to start again, then nothing.
