What a top day!!!
Submitted by barneyboy on Fri, 2010-05-07 20:15Went for a fish out off bunbury today while all the good people were working.
Searched for some new ground to the north. Found a few lumps and bumps. It didnt really look like much on the sounder but it must have been enough.
2 personal bests. a Dhu and a SBT. Got a squid and a good size cuttlefish and a few other small reef fish.
Hooked up big time on the 30lb spin gear and lost 100 metres of line in no time. Was on for a good 10minutes and the leader rubbed through. was obviously a shark. I was no where near in control of the fight and Iam guessing it was a big fish.
Yeh I know they are dead fish photos but only because I forgot to take the camera..
Did a 40 Nm round trip and the new/old rebuilt boat went beautifully!!
And to top it off I get home early and the missus has scored some Metallica tickets for October!!!!!signed sealed but not quite delivered. F@#k yeh!! Iam so extatic to be going to see the best band in the world do their thing!!
So yeh a top day

What rod?
Submitted by butch33 on Fri, 2010-05-07 16:41HI Guys & Girls
I recently got myself a Saltist 6500 and filled with 50lb braid now I am on the lookout for a rod, I intend for this outfit to be a bit multipurpose from trolling to poppering. I have only really looked at a monster mesh 8ft and a shimano GT Tcurve 8ft, I am fairly new to this heavy kind of fishing as prev I was mostly lure fishing for Bream with 1-2lb rods and 2-4lb line
Budget would be upto price of GT Tcurve, any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Submitted by Trousersnake on Fri, 2010-05-07 11:25I know this is a fishing forum but unfotunately my last beach bash I got skunked and had no story to tell. So I will have a go at all tha W.A. soft cock dudes in this state.
Channel 9 figures that you would all prefer watching a stupid movie about two chicks playing fags playin drag queens. Than televise a NATIONAL I repeat NATIONAL game of league rugby! This is sad!!! VERY VERY SAD!!!! I can't believe this is happening. I being a foreigner to this country has to fight for tha right to watch a NATIONAL team game. I think any dudes who would rather watch a shit movie over a live NATIONAL game should go hand their dude card in at tha dude centre and pick up yer lifetime membership to tha soft cock society!!!! This game is being showed live in all other states.
GO THA KANGAROOS!!!! Sorry I can't support you in your win!!!

shimano stradic ci4
Submitted by Johnyy_Boii on Thu, 2010-05-06 23:22hey guys, im looking to purchase a shimano stradic ci4 2500 for my shimano 7' catana rated 6-8kg, just wondering on some reports on this reel? is it worth paying an extra $80 from the new stradic fi? im looking to put on around 12-15lb braid on it. also wondering if there are any other shimano reels i should look at for the rod, it will be used for flicking small lures of rocks and jettys and im going to take it up to carnarvon in around a month so i need something small, strong and to hold a decent amount of 12-15lb braid.
any suggestions will be great.

I love this feeling
Submitted by buschy on Thu, 2010-05-06 21:54It's knowing that I'm only a few hours away from my next landbased fishing adventure. It's the mystery and nervous anticipation that the waiting brings. In four hours I'll be waking up and heading off on my last trip to 'chase the big one' before our firstborn arrives.
Here's the plan. I'll be arriving at Hill River about 5am to soak a big bait for a few hours and bait cast for some morning tailor. All being well, by around 8am I'll have a couple of good sized tailor and a nice fat mullaway on the beach.
Then I'll head out to Cervantes service jetty for a bit of ballooning. Hopefully catch a reef shark or two and who knows - I might get lucky and land a sambo or something unexpected. I'll also flick out the little rod for some of those big 'stormies' - fat gardies and no doubt land a couple of herring at the same time.
Then I'll clean up my catch and head up to the house in Leeman for a couple of hours kip. When my mate arrives, we'll hit our secret spot for some squid and launch the balloons to see whats offshore. Some big sharks around the spot and some 'unknowns' that THIS TIME we will be ready for. Maybe sambos, perhaps a stray mack, or even a snapper close in.
If we feel like it we might just go another 'spot' to walk the reef for some crabs and cobbler. Not sure....but I might be getting a bit greedy if I do that :-p
Truth be told - I'll probably come home with a feed of herring and not much else. But I just LOVE the thought that all of the above might transpire. I also LOVE our country...where else in the world can you potentially do all this within a few hours of a major population!
I'll report back on Sunday. Wish me luck!

Submitted by thesupervisor on Thu, 2010-05-06 21:07so if ive been reading right will any aftermarket transducer match up with any sounder?
i have a hds 5 but im using the trans ducer from my old lms527c it works ok but question is how much better will a aftermarket transducer made the sounder and in what way?
would it be better to get a better transducer or get the lowrace structure scan?

Need a light rod for Exxy? Check out the Lemax SlimMax...
Submitted by Ben Derecki on Thu, 2010-05-06 17:08It's a bit close to the event but I thought I'd put it up anyway. If you're looking for a light lure rod for the Exmouth Invitational, or if you just want a plastics rod for pinkies as we start moving towards the season check out the Lemax SlimMax SC.
The rods come in a range of sizes but the 6'6" and 7'0" rods are great plastics or light sportfishing rods and have accounted for some unbelievable fish locally, in the northern parts of WA and overseas. There's some YouTube footage at the bottom of the text if you want to see them in action and get a feel of what they're capable of.
The rods come with Lemax' custom silicon carbide guides, have a Fuji reel seat, they look great and they're competitively priced. If you're a Daiwa Sol user the gold and blue deco makes it a great match. There are a couple of baitcasting options which I think supplies are running low of at the moment but if you want one down the track then talk to any of the stockists and they'll be able to sort something out for you.

These are great rods that won't let you down.

Essential lures for Bream
Submitted by beejay on Thu, 2010-05-06 13:48Guys, I have always fished for Bream with bait but now want to start using lures. I have used them before for bream but not really put much effort in to it. I want to change that.
If you had to choose 6 to start with what would they be and why?
I know Brenz will automatically say the Zipbait Khamsin that he seems to be doing so well with but what else?
I will be dinghy based if that makes any difference.
Cheers

Tantabiddi Ramp - Hows it been?
Submitted by Brucesta on Thu, 2010-05-06 11:47Just chasing some recent info on the tantabiddi ramp, i have never seen it before and have never used it either obviously. I have searched on here and people are talking about bog mats on the low etc.
Tides are on the spring side of the scale and with the comp having the high in the middle of the days there is going to be lots of launches and retieves for all around the low tide marks so for those locals and those already there is there certian times to avoid the ramp. I'm hoping to get one very early start in and i'm considering just using Bundegi for this.
I have a Mitsubishi Pajero 08 model and my boat is a 5.3m Polycraft which is 1.6 tonnes BMT. Bog mats have been ordered and will hopefully be here in time.
Cheers guys

hmmm...imagine this
Submitted by bod on Thu, 2010-05-06 09:48Tasmanian scientists have discovered a new species of jellyfish in Hobart's River Derwent.
The species is only a few millimetres wide and scientists say it looks like a flying saucer with a cluster of gonads, or sex organs, on top.
Scientists discovered the jellyfish while surveying the waters outside the CSIRO in Hobart.
The new species has been named CSIRO Medusa medeopolis, meaning "jellyfish from CSIRO" and "city of gonads".
Launceston jellyfish expert Lisa-Ann Gershwin says it is an astounding discovery.
"It's absolutely different from every other jellyfish that's ever been known," Dr Gershwin said.
"So we not only put it into its own new species and its own new genus, but it's actually a brand new family."
Dr Gershwin says the find is also tremendously exciting.
"Quite possibly and quite humbly the greatest discovery of my career, ever. I mean I'll be lucky if I ever get a discovery even half as incredible again," she said.
"You know any mum with a new bub is always excited, but when you have a whole family of new bubs I think it's triply exciting."

Submitted by spoon on Thu, 2010-05-06 09:09hey guys
Trip has been booked to new guinea for chrissy this year to catch up with the olds, were booked into all the usual resorts arround kavieng but also tufi dive resort which has black bass fishing down the Musa River. Has anyone got any ideas on what lures gear etc to take, or any good articles in fishing mags I can track down. So far im thinking it's a bit like red bass fishing just in creeks and with baitcasters which i have done a fair bit off.
Ive got so far
calcutta 400 30 pound live fibre 8-10 kilo rod
shimano curado 200e7 20lb 6-10 kilo t-curve
twin power 6000 30lb lucanus jig spin pe2-3
im thinkin lures like rmg scorps, rapala x raps just dont know what sizes and what depths
any help

hows this..... updated with pic
Submitted by scotto on Wed, 2010-05-05 08:48hows this.....
my brother and my old man are away down south on holiday with wives, kids, etc. the old man took down his 19ft ocean whaler, and they went out fishing yesterday. bro reckons they would have done 30 odd mile scratchin around looking for fish/ground, and had caught nothing all day, except for a few shit fish.
with nothing in the esky (fish wise), around 3 oclock decided to call it a day, and just go in and get some squid so as not to come home empty handed. the squid ground was broken weed/ sand patches as per usual, and the old man thought it looked ok for a king george or 2, so threw down a small baited hook, on 4kg line.
15 minutes later, in 6m of water, 1.25kms from the boat ramp they launched at, he boated a 13kg dhuie.
