Exmouth King Reef Fishing
Submitted by kinga86 on Fri, 2023-08-25 11:22Heading up in October with my 4.5m side console. Just wondering if anyone has fished the artifical reef system lately?
It's close to the canals which is where im staying so should give it a shot for pelagics and demersals when the wind isnt too crazy Gulf side.
Fingers crossed the Sharks arent too bad!

City of Wanneroo Proposed Fishing Restrictions
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Mon, 2023-08-21 13:03The City of Wanneroo are carrying out a consultation for recreational fishing on beaches with absolutely zero context of any background issues. Just a glib “do you believe limitations should be placed on fishing activities in areas where surf lifesaving activities are taking place” with no definition of ‘surf lifesaving activities’ but appears it would affect Quinns, Alkimos and Yanchep beaches.

ECU/Fisheries Survey
Submitted by Backop on Sun, 2023-08-20 11:25Hi All
Just had the pleasure of taking the phone survey being undertaken by Edith Cowan University (ECU) on behalf of WA Fisheries. As an engineering type who has a pretty fair understanding of statistics and survey techniques and all I can say is what a waste of time and money.
Really not much more than have you been fishing, boat/shore/both, how many times, where (based on the so-called bioregions), what have you caught (from a list of species) (no interest in number or released or kept), how many times do you think you will go fishing again, do you want to participate in a detail survey log moving forward? Extremely simplistic and narrow data set.
All they can take from it is have you been fishing and are you going to keep fishing. If this is the basis for some advisory to Fisheries i cannot fathom how it can be presented as any meaningful or representative way other than a simple how many and where exercise.
This sadly appears to line up with the poor science we have been seeing used as a basis for managing Fisheries in WA.
I fear there is more bad news to come if you like fishing.

Underwater sonar
Submitted by Livewire on Thu, 2023-08-17 12:05Check out the size of these barra. ( Pascoeboyfishing) on YouTube. Using a directional sonar to spot the fish and watching them follow your lure is unreal, even saw the shark chasing the fish. Next level. Give it a look, be nice to have something like that on your doorstep.

The Great Giveaway
Submitted by Stax on Tue, 2023-08-15 09:01G'day all
I have a few extra lures in my kit to give away.
There are 5 sets of these lures, all similar but some with different colours.
They consist of 2 x 180mm stickbaits and 2 x 200mm poppers.
All brand new. ONE SET PER PERSON PLEASE.
Please, please please, only ask for them if you can actually use them, they are large palegic style lures.
Please keep in open forum, I will not answer any Private messages.
There is no catch, just you will need to collect them.
I live near Perth Airport, just so you know.

Pink Ribbon Fishin 2023
Submitted by OldMateAdventures on Wed, 2023-08-09 11:13Hey there Team,
Just thought I'd share a few pics and some in-sight to a charity we started last year in W.A. supporting Breast Cancer and the McGrath Foundation.
In late 2019 my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer and as covid hit our shores she was going through multiple operations and months of chemo and radiation. She kicked cancers arse and is one of the main reasons after she recovered that we sold up everything and now live a life semi-retired and fishing and working up and down the west coast and beyond.
Since her treatment I wanted to find a way to give back to some of the charity's that helped her so much, one in particular was the McGrath Foundation and we were lucky enough to have a breast care nurse stationed down in Bunbury during Kel's treatment. So I had got into a bit of rod building and thought of somehow making pink fishing rods and raffle them off but with the help of a mate and a bunch of crew we were able to get a few custom rods built and also some amazing prizes donated by some very generous local and intersate businesses.
Last year we launched it at the Perth Boat Show and this year we'll be doing the same and running the online raffle through till mid November.
We have some epic prizes this year and some of our sponsers have made some crazy pink themed fishing and spearo gear!
Pink Ribbon Fishin’ (@pinkribbonfishin) • Instagram photos and video
OldMate Adventures | Trek Camp Hunt - our charity page and sponsor details.
https://www.facebook.com/PinkRibbonFishin
Tickets will be only $5ea and all money raised goes to the McGrath Foundation. If you follow our socials all the raffle details will be posted mid september onwards. Look out for our Pink Gazebo at the Boat Shows and 4wd Shows and come say howdy.
Cheers All.
Jed.

Lancelin beach snaps
Submitted by Pete F on Tue, 2023-08-08 07:30Couple of beach snapper of the drone @ 200m, yesterday morning. One demersal that just keeps getting better year on year. The one thing fisheries did right protecting the breeding aggregations from commercial and rec anglers. Small ones are a pest at times stealing the baits, but cant complain with fish like these. I have been hearing reports of big fish schools from all over even 600m depths.

Painted Lobster & Ornate Lobster
Submitted by Alan James on Thu, 2023-08-03 11:21I have a question related to the painted lobster and ornate lobster found in our northern waters. It's common knowledge that these species are generally not caught in pots. But does anyone know why? I have heard it said that they are vegetarians but that is incorrect. I have also heard that their feelers cannot retract and face backwards which makes it difficult for them to enter pots but that appears to be false as well.
