Saragosa SW?
Submitted by tainted on Sun, 2014-03-09 21:54Hey ppl,
I've been eyeing up these reels for a while now and was curious if anyone had any feedback?
In particular I'm looking at them for a possible beach combo. I love my baitrunners but the amount of grit I find when servicing tells me that they wont last forever. Maybe the Saragosa's new sealing might be worth the cost?
Cheers in advance,
Tainted

Light Estuary Popper Fishing
Submitted by Lowza on Sun, 2014-03-09 16:51Three weeks ago a mate suggested I get into Top water fishing for the usual bread & butter species I target. The lure of choice was the 3B Berkley Popper.
After the first weekend I was addicted had around 15 Top water hook ups on herring landing all also had 3 Hits and 3 Follows from some BIG! yellowfin whiting however non landed. Also there one big black ray ramming my leg as well turns out you shouldn't leave your wading bag with necked fishing in waste deep water.......
Second weekend similar 15 or so Top water hooks up on herring with a couple of hits and follows from yellow fin still yet too land one.
Third weekend the best herring fishing I have had in years, schools and schools out there with 30+ Hooks ups, 25 or so landed with 10 kept. The conditions were perfect crystal clear no wind. There were hoards and hoards of BIG yellowfin on the flats however they were not interested in the popper this week. I tried subsurface stickbaits and also a hardbodys but very minor interest.
Does anybody have any suggestions surrounding getting these yellow fin whiting on poppers would be appreciated.
The herring were decent models too around high 20s/30cm.

What is underneath you when fishing off Bunbury
Submitted by crano on Sun, 2014-03-09 13:07I had my first go at uploading to youtube to show what is on the bottom in 34 m off bunnbury. The vid with the eel is good to look at but not that productive. If you loook in the background you may see a couple of KGs one of which ended up with a spear through it.The second vid is at a spot that has been producing jumbos and dhueys for 11 years. i hope it is of some interest.

Solar panels
Submitted by jarrid on Sun, 2014-03-09 08:48I have done a search and haven't been able to find wha to am after. I am looking to get a solar panel set up on the roof of my boat to tops the batteries up but also to run up to say two fridges. The worst case situation would require having enough grunt to maintain the 2 x fridges for two days whilst the boat is getting towed from say exmouth. I have twin batteries and a vsr.
Questions are:
- what wattage panel?
- what type of panel is generally used?
- what else is required in the system? Is it jus a regulator or do you need a charge controller?
- any recommendations on where to source the gear locally (been told jaycar)
roof

bus bar

isolator

vsr.

and im about a grand down. Not sure if anything can be done, we have been on

Power Cable Fittings for Electric Reel
Submitted by Belly Fish on Sat, 2014-03-08 20:58I'm keen to ditch the alligator clips on the power cables for my electric reels. I'm thinking of running a cable from the battery under the gunwale, then installing three take-off points equally along the side.
I'm assuming this is what quite a few anglers have done, my question is can anyone recommend good quality, salt resistant fittings for the job and where to get them from?
Thanks

Recent rod builds for a couple of lucky hopefuls...
Submitted by barneyboy on Sat, 2014-03-08 10:13Here are a couple of recent builds for people.
The marbelling is on a 6 foot 6 inch 2 peice MHX that was designed for whiting/bream on the flats. For anyone looking at getting built or wanting to roll their own rod, I seriously suggest looking at these blanks. Reasonable price for the quality and a limited lifetime warranty.
The samurai with fish wrap is a 2 peice butt join and turned out very nice. Stainless frame 'k' guides with sillicon carbide tip. 6 ft 6 in 12-20lb. Camo grips and a rubberised gimbal. Is being used for soft plastic snapper fishing.
The samurai with thunderbirds is built on the NV 9. 7 foot 15kg. We trimmed this a bit to 6 ft 8in. From the pics I have recieved, it has already slayed some nice Dhu.
Damo, this is yours..I let my daughter do it...haha
Happy fishing!!

decent light gauge hooks
Submitted by grayzeee on Sat, 2014-03-08 08:54I am looking for a good strong light gauge hook for inshore fishing for sand whiting to baldies around the 1/0 size
I have been using hoodlums for everything - jigging, trolling and bottom fishing and they have never failed , but they are a little too thick gauge for the rod I'm using inshore. (20lb plastics rod)
Anyone have any input on the black magic KL's or recommendations on something likewise??

Jigging for Rosies, Goldband and Robbos sea bream
Submitted by rockhead on Fri, 2014-03-07 10:11Fishing off Exmouth in May in about 60-80 metres of water. Can I jig for the above species. Has anyone tried and had success. And if so, what type of jigs, weight etc. Dropping a bait, losing it, and then lifting a big lump of lead off the bottom is tiresome.
