Any carribean 2300 owners in perth on this forum?

We are leaving Perth on the 25th heading East but first we want to have a fish ,it dosnt matter in the river or the Sea.I am seeing swell reports of huge conditions so Im thinking the sea is not a good option.Dads in his 80s and he will be happy caching a feed on an Estuary somewhere.There is a slight problem he does not want to go any further South than Busso .We had booked for Binningup but as the options there are limited,and i read in another site the weed is covered the beach .So any spots where its close to an estuary and van park will be awesome please .

 Hey guys. What are people's opinions about tomorrow's weather? I have the day off and was thinking about maybe going out from Hillarys and fishing within the 3 mile to see if any snapper around. Wind looks ok, but a fair bit of swell early on. Seabreeze saying 2.7, and willyweathet up to 3m. Normally wouldn't even consider with that sort of swell, but given the wind reckon it may b ok??

Looking for some info on the track conditions of Ningaloo Station, particularly Winderabandi Point. I know that Parks and Wildlife have taken over and was just wondering if they have done any grading etc lately.

I have been an attendee and devotee of DHI for close to 20 years. I first saw the island during a Rex Hunt Fishing specials many many years ago where Rexie landed a monster tailor off the cliffs. I booked a trip there immediately and cruised up with the brother and girlfriends where we stayed at Urchin Point for 10 days.

Since that first trip I have returned many times each year and stayed in all the different styles of accomodation the islands offers. The islands accomodation each have their individual bonuses but I guess I enjoy the ability to take a 4wd to the island and be in charge of my own destiny, so enjoy the boat villa and camping accomodation. Having said that enjoying the fully catered luxury of the lodge is nothing to sneeze at.

I recently purchased a Lowrance Hook2 7 Triple Shot Combo fish finder.  I noticed that the MEASURE DISTANCE function does not work even after following the manual carefully.  After navigating to the MORE OPTIONS MENU the Measure distance SUB MENU is not visible.  I have phoned Lowrance  on a number of occasions and it has them stumped as well.  Still has not been resolved even after a software upgrade.  I had a look ate the later Hook Reveal models in my local BCF and they appear to have the same issue,  Is this for real?  Are they selling their sounders now without a distance measuring tool on all of their Hook series sounders?  Crazy.  There has to be an explanation.  Has anyone confronted this problem before and if so do you have a solution?

 Well another year done and dusted at Gnaraloo and the weather gods turned it on for us and the fish were on the chew. So were the sharks unfortunately but managed to get through them by moving around and fluking non sharky territory. 

Day 1 saw us on the water around 11.30 and  into  the 70m mark and a couple of nice Reds, a good Pinky that just made it to the boat , couple of Spanglys and Cobia. All caught on last year's freezer bitten bait lol. 

Day 2 was an almost glass off so we punched it out to the 100's and this is where the action really started, More good Reds huge Goldband , some smaller and Cobia. The bigger Goldband caught on my new Vexed bottom meat before a greycoat decided he liked the colours and took it for his collection :( 

Day 3 Back into the 100's again but a slower bite but still a couple of good Goldband nonetheless.

Day 4 a strong norwester saw us compressing our spines as we bashed out to the 50m line but was blessed with a sharkless day and a good haul of Rankins and Reds. The first Rankin hit a Redthroat I had on and took off like a loco which had me thinking I'd been sharked yet again, so keelhauled it up hoping to get some of my rig back. Sad face turned to a cheesy grin when I saw the fright colours and a good size Rankin on the line you beauty! 

A fillet tally of 43Kg for the 4 days had us stoked and gave some fillets to the fellas near us who'd been struggling a bit with a smaller boat but had put in the hard work to try and get fish. 

And of course there's nothing better than watching the sun go down with a frothy and the fire lit.

I know you'll read this Kim it was good to see you up there again and hope you fellas got out and got some good fish.

Gday Im looking at buying a boat and trailer that weigh a combined weight of 2.2 tonne. Trailer has the cable breaks on it and im pretty sure if over 2 tonne it must have electric brakes on either one or both axles - is that right?. Can someone confirm what would have to be done to the trailer and also does it need the brake controller unit installed in the cab so driver can manually activate brakes and does it need the "break away brakes" for if trailer becomes detached from car thanks in advance for any help!

Planning a Kalbarri trip for 4 nights around mid August. Deciding between towing up my 4.2 dinghy or stick to land based. Never being there before, was hoping to get some advice on places to go (boat or land), species to target etc.

Heading up with fam and kids along with some friends, so looking for accomodation options aswell. Keen to camp, just would need to be a park with shower facilities for the wife n kids.

Off to Rottnest Island this week for some land based fishing . Wondering if anyone has been having any luck over there and knows or has heard what's actually biting.
Im taking my poppers and sticks to try entice some pelagic's and my soft plastics over and a few squid jigs and will visit the usual haunts of Radars and around Strickos for some likely holes in the reef.
So yeah any info knowledge or reports would be appreciated

Hey all, recently I've just finished a build with oceanic fabrication in Henderson. After doing countless hours bashing around in a 6 m trailcraft for the last 5 years (great boat, just a hard ride) i decided i wanted something a bit more comfortable with a good fuel capacity that will get me and the family (or a few mates) to the islands for a few days. I had considered glass and if i had of been in Perth still i probably would have gone glass but being up in the northwest WA a plate boat suited me better. I was on a pretty strict budget so going to the likes of genesis, razerline or coraline for a drive away package of that size was always going to be out of my price range. I came across oceanic a few years ago, they're a small family run business they have been building bill plugg designed hulls for years mainly just to hot-works completion stage but can do a full fitout if you require. The hull i went with is a 7.5m (waterline length) x 2.5m beam hardtop. Its got 8mm keel plates and 5mm sides, 20 degree deadrise at the transom, 600L underfloor fuel capacity, 100L of fresh water and approx 150L kill tank. The base price for this hull with a list of standard features is around 39k, they will add, chop change things and put them where you want them. They are complete custom built to suit what you want. I found them really good when it came to adding things or changing layouts. The trailer i built is a full ali skid trailer made from 220mm x 10mm I beams, 6mm SHS and C channel. Its fully welded with v shaped torsion axles. I like the simplicity of the genesis trailers, I had a look at a few at the ramp and based it loosely around one of their trailers and built it to suit my hull dimensions & deadrise etc. For a home job its turned out well, its nice and low which i wanted it tows straight and is easy to drive on and off. I want to add a boatcatch to it soon but other than that its spot on. Jamelka coatings in Rockingham did the paint, they did a nice job with a pretty quick turnaround time. With help of a mate whos an auto sparkie to tackle some of the complex wiring i did all the fitout myself at home and in his workshop when required. I sourced most of the fitout parts through Whitworths and JPW in Perth and worked on it at home after work and on break. Its got a triple battery system with a 200AH house battery bank, 200W of solar and a DC to DC charger. 2 x 40l engels, 1 is an inbuilt chest type the other is a standard 40L on a slide under the passenger seat box. Simrad NSS16 with a TM260 transducer and zipwake trim tabs. Motor is a Suzuki 300AP, i bought it at the boat show last year through West Coast Suzuki, they had some good deals on with free rigging etc. It seems a good match so far, quiet, good on fuel averages about 1.2km/l i'll expect that will get better as it loosens up a bit. The hull build started in October last year and i've just finished the trial "commissioning test" fishing at exmouth for the week and clocking up 20hrs. Im wrapped with it, it rides good, has heaps of deck room and will serve me well for years to come. If anyone ones to know finer details feel free to PM. Cheers.

Is it allowed to fillet and clean fish and squid on the boat before returning to ramp?   Or do they need to be kept whole in case of fisheries inspection?

 I was lurkin around on the blackwood last night and holy F I couldn't believe the bugs getting around.

Was glassy calm and in the the shallows closer to the bank when you pointed the spot light it was virtually a solid layer of these tiny little orange critters going mad just above the water surface.

I'm guessing food for something!!

Has anyone else spotted them like this?

Last few trips getter better . Salt/pepper squid tonight with nice salad. Missus isn’t the best atm . Making most of it . Got some nice baits for next time . Lost an absolute monster today ,would have hit 2kg mark no problem. It came up and attacked a big squid I was bringing in. I got over excited . Also lost a duo jig not happy . Next time , love squiding best type of fishing by far .

Hey I’ve been lucky enough to procure a Alvey winch from a fellow member however I’m now after a flush deck mount to sit the reel into. Does anyone have one to off load please?

todays west has a story that I thought might be worth giving fellow F/W members a "heads up" about.
What the story was about was a dog coming into contact with a Sea Hare and as a result died very quickly.
Apparently these things, which look some what look like a sea cucumber have a deadly covering slime that is very toxic and can bring about the death of your fido very quickly if the dog just licks the animal.

Just thought it was worth mentioning on here as a lot of us take our dog for a walk along the beach and perhaps not taking much notice of what our favourite pet happens to come across and give the taste lick too can have very serious consequences.

Just back from my first trip North...hit Leeman with a few mates for the first time towing the old girl up and tenting at the caravan park.

Hit some magic weather although finding fish wasn't easy....still a great trip and a few fillets in the freezer...Lucky to hit some schooling snapper, decent Dhue at 9kg with plenty of Baldies. other boat similar with a large Spangly landed.

Only managed the one tuna out of the school under the boat...being chased by 2 large bronzies.

I have been thinking about a problem I have with commercially made gang hooks. I use three 5/0 for salmon. Some gangs bait easily others are difficult. The trouble with the difficult ones is getting the shank of the first hook to slide on the shank of the second - it catches so it is hard to bait up and get the bait to present well. Add a bit of sand and it gets quite irritating. I am wondering what the difference between the easy and difficult ones is. I always get gangs with a bent shank at the eye and that helps. But the problem persists.

I am wondering if the problem is less pronounced with straight limericks rather than the ones with the slight "suicide" type bend. If I find the best hooks I might buy a hundred and make my own gangs.

 I have for years been a boat "Bread and Butter" fisherman,and there's nothing wrong with that- but have for a long time looked at the Pic's on here of better quality fish,and thought "if only one day!"

 Then last year Fishwrecked Member- Dale due to a shoulder injury, was selling some of his good quality rods and reels. I only brought one rod and reel, but it was much better than anything I had for boat fishing. It was the start -Thanks Dale.

Next there was that thing in the boat called a Sounder- Lowrance HDS5, nothing too flash. I had some idea(or at least I thought I did) how to use it, but had never bothered with it much for finding/catching herring and tailor over the years.

Another Fishwrecked Member after asking for his help,spent a couple of hours on a Sunday morning showing me the basic workings of the Sounder, and set the Sounder up so I could have a better understanding of what I was looking at when I turned it on -lol.

I was making progress ,but had no idea where to start looking for these better quality fish, big ocean out there in front of the boat ramp.

Again,asking for some help and guidance from another Fishwrecked Member, he suggested that I "buddy up" with him and follow him out to the "the deep" where he would show me the drifting style of fishing in 40 plus deep water.

On the day, he called them shit conditions- but it gave me a lot more confidance in boat handling skills with ocean swells and also with getting over sea sickness in wallowing swells- hopefully that improves and less human burly over the side.

A couple of days later he sent me some very helpful Waypoints, which would at least give me somewhere to start from-  "it's big ocean out there". Took me over and hour to put the Waypoints into the Sounder, most likely only take 10 minutes for anyone else- but I got there.

Which brings me to yesterday- checked weather,wind,swell reports - Monday was looking ok, as I've decided I will only venture "out wide" on a good low swell days. 

Did all the usual safety stuff- Sea Rescue login, I now wear a lifejacket and headed out following the Sounder Waypoint -which is a first for me.  I'm pretty sure the conditions would be called shit- but again how would I know!  Bloody Northerly wind out there, very choppy but at least the swell was low.

Got to the first Waypoint about 30 minutes from boatramp, after bashing out thru short sloppy wind driven chop.  I didn't bother with the Sonar, as advised and just concentrated on staying as close as I could in the conditions, on the Waypoints.

Had to hold the boat in gear, to stay onto the Waypoint as the Northerly wind increased- this is going to be shit I thought.

Well second drop and something bit hard, and yep my first Dhufish was caught, couldn't believe it! (hope the pic works on here)

And I'm still smiling on Tuesday morning.

And how nice are they on the dinner plate!

I'm looking for a new centre console boat in the 24+ foot range and came across the North Shore brand that's made in perth. Does anyone have any information on them? Fuel economy and ride quantity would be greatly appreciated.
