Sambo Jigging
Submitted by thrifty on Thu, 2010-06-24 10:02Hi all,
I am a first time poster but have always enjoyed reading the various posts and reports and have gained some valuable information. I was wondering if anyone knows if you can still get into sambos this time of year. Most of my fishing has been done up north so i am not too familiar with metro fishing.
I just bought a Saltist LD30 2 speed paired a G.Loomis Pro Blue 20-40 lb which i bought with switchbaiting to sailfish in mind. It is spooled with 40 lb nitlon braid. However i dont want to wait till my next trip up north to test it out. Will probably be a little undergunned if the big sambos are out there but im not too phased about that.
I have access to a 6.5m boat so getting out there is not a problem. If anyone could me out with regards to where they are biting or what types of jigs are working etc that would be great.
Cheers,
Dan

Anglers have chance to influence fishing laws
Submitted by Tony Halliday on Thu, 2010-06-24 08:45seems we being given as say again, but will it be listened to? thats the question.
quote
"RECREATIONAL anglers have a precious opportunity to have their say on the future management of Western Australia's fisheries.
With the State Government looking at a new Act of Parliament to replace the 1994 Fisheries Resource Management Act, which appeared primarily aimed at professional fishing more than recreational and which lacks the flexibility now needed moving forward, a discussion paper on options for managing our aquatic resources has been released for public comment...."

Only in Exmouth
Submitted by matttld25 on Wed, 2010-06-23 22:14On monday we finnaly had a calm day where i was not working so i thought i would try to get a marlin ,i have been trying for a while on my boat but with no success .My self and Jason headed out early and we were in the water by 7.30am and set lures by 8am we had our first marlin look at our gear but no luck at 8.15 we had our second look and we were on .This is Jasons first malin and i have only tld 25 with 15kgs on them so i didnt know what was going to happen ,20min later we relesed and we were both very happy first for jason, first for the boat.
Twenty minutes later we had our second on and soon to the boat ,we landed two more in the 2 hours, so we were 4 hook ups 3 landed ,by noon we had raised 13 in total and landed 4 we should have had two more but we had gear fail but with the working out they were getting i expected as much.
I was running two tld25s with 15kg line and 1 tld15 with 30 pound braid ,the tld 15 landed one marlin should of had two but the leader snaped.
I know this is not the best marlin set up but it is all that i have ,so i cant complain all marlin were 40 to 70 kgs the two that snaped gear one was over a 100kgs and we were unlucky as i was putting the line into the outrigger as the marlin hit the line wrapped my glove and the marlin jumped nearly pulling me over the side the line snapped and the marlin jumped away with my lure.
We were coming in to get a mackie to take home when we came accross a whale shark it came to the boat and hung around .We stopped and a second came up and stayed near the motor had a pat and left .

Fishing Licences as of 2010
Submitted by Hairyone on Wed, 2010-06-23 15:47Gday,
Im moving to WA soon (HOPEFULLY!!!) and have a couple of questions regarding fishing licences.
Ive searched the web and this forum and Im still confused.......
Can someone tell me if this is right?
Fishing licence - $ 230 per year covers everything land based and boat, fresh and salt water.
Any amount of people can fish under this licence but it only entitles you to 1 bag limit per licence.
The licence is only valid in a selected area, such as Gascoyne etc.
Also...how much is boat rego?
Cheers

Underwater photography
Submitted by Ben Derecki on Mon, 2010-06-21 13:41
So you guys who are getting underwater shots or video of your fishing - underwater profile photos, fish with lures in their mouth etc - how are you going about getting those photos? Both offshore and landbased...
I'm guessing the two options are pretty simple: 1) put your camera underwater and point it in the direction of the fish and fire; 2) if the water is deep enough jump in and start shooting.
Is there more to it than that? I picked up an underwater camera (point and shoot not D/SLR) recently and wouldn't mind giving it a go but it would be handy to get a few ideas / bit of advice first..

Bali fishing charter recommendations?
Submitted by Hobie-Wan on Mon, 2010-06-21 10:55I am going to Bali soon, and I have been trying to find out any information on reliable fishing charters over there. Of course, I searched this site and found a few recommendations. I also get the impression that a lot of companies are rip-offs.
I am really interested to hear from any fishwrecked folks who have done fishing charters in Bali. If you have been on one that wasn't a ripoff and you caught fish, that is awesome info :-) If you have been on one that was absolutely terrible, that is also great info, so I can steer clear of such companys.
I don't want to break the holiday budget but of course willing to pay for a value service.
