8hp on 3m tinny

ive just bought this 3.1m savage kingfisher tinny and have a 3hp for it, it a bit underpowered and only tops about 11knots so i might repower the boat with an 8hp ive seen, the thing is the transom is weak because the first owner of the boat ran a 15hp on it so the guy i bought it off had to weld it up, and i just want to know your opinions on this

Sportfishing Industry Awards 2010 “Best of Show” Honors
Fourteen companies take top honors during world’s largest sportfishing trade show

Las Vegas, NV - July 15, 2010 – ICAST 2010, the International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades, the world’s largest sportfishing tradeshow, is in full swing from July 14-16, at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nev. Over 7,000 representatives from the sportfishing industry, including more than 2,000 buyers and over 500 media representatives, are gathered to see the latest innovations in tackle, gear and apparel and network with the global sportfishing community. The sportfishing industry’s premier trade event is produced by the American Sportfishing Association (ASA), the industry’s trade association, which is headquartered in Alexandria, Va.

This year, the 53rd year of ICAST, the New Product Showcase, the tradeshow’s flagship event, was more competitive than ever. Sponsored by Fishing Tackle Retailer, produced by ESPN Outdoors/BASS, 210 exhibiting companies entered 750 tackle products and accessories into the New Product Showcase. The product category with the most product submissions was the hard lure category.

This year the G.Loomis NRX, was voted by buyers and media as the most innovative product in the ICAST 2010 New Product Showcase in both the freshwater rod category and the overall “Best of Show.”

Five 2009 showcase winners — G. Loomis, Lowrance-Navico, Pure Fishing, Sebile Innovative Fishing and Shimano American Corporation – won awards again in 2010.

Shimano American Corporation took home four best of show awards in the hard lure, freshwater reel, saltwater reel and saltwater rod categories.

“The New Product Showcase continues to amaze me with the quality of the new products submitted for consideration,” said ASA President and CEO Mike Nussman. “I want to congratulate all of the winners of this year’s Showcase and also congratulate everyone who participated, including the companies who worked hard to develop these innovations and the buyers and media who served as judges.”

Making up a special section of ICAST’s 400,000-square-foot show floor, the New Product Showcase provides special visibility for the industry’s latest innovations in gear and accessories. Buyers and media representatives judged the products based on their level of innovation, execution, workmanship and practicality to select “Best of Show” honors in 17 categories, as well as the overall “Best of Show” winner.

Bony Herring

Hey folks,

I want to chase down some bony herring in the Swan. I've never tried going for them before but want to catch a bag for use as bait.

I have a technique I use with some success for gardies and mullet on bait and was planning to try the same technique which involves letting a bait slowly sink into the fish.

I'm not sure what the bony herring usually eat though or where abouts in the river to start looking for them? I was planning on using small pieces of pilchard but can go with worms, dough, etc if a better option?

Any advice would be really appreciated.

Additionally - is burley recommended?

Thanks,

Buschy :-)

Exmouth Comp 2011 Questions

Didn't want to clog up the FW Exmouth 2011 thread so I was just after some info about the comp?

Looking at possibly heading up that way next year with the family (wife and 4yr old boy and 2yr old boy) and the folks with their boat and maybe some others?  Anyway - I have never been up there but the folks reckon that Coral Bay would be better for the kids than Exmouth.  I was thinking of maybe staying at Coral Bay for a week then Exmouth for a week if we can get accomodation that is?

Where is the best place to stay in Exmouth for access to launching spots, fishing spots, swimming spots etc etc.  And if anyone has any ideas/tips on accomodation at either Coral Bay or Exmouth.  We willl be flying blind on the fishing front too as it will be our first time up there???

Cheers PPLS!

BE AWARE!!!!!

Coming into Hillays this afternoon saw a fishery inspector on the point coming into the harbour with radar gun........

anyone get pinged?

Fishwrecked Exmouth Comp - 2011- 9th, 10th and 11th of April

Hi Crew,

I've decided on the dates for the 2011 Exmouth comp - which will be = 9th, 10th and 11th of April 2011.  So the comp will be the Saturday, Sunday and the Monday will be left open depending upon the weather.  The opening night will be of the Friday the 8th and the Pissup/Windup will be the Monday 11th.  This is before school holidays and Easter and after gamex and the AIBT.  (Easter is also coral spawn time and shuts down the surface IMO)

All other details of where etc are to be determined.  2011 entry fees will be $40 per person. ($20 will be for prizes, $20 will be for catering on the final night/also maybe for hiring a venue depending upon numbers as we almost out grew my place this year)  I think this is more than reasonable considering you all have equal opportunity to win prizes and that its not cheap to feed a lot of people.  I also expect that we should be able to add more prize categories if we have more money available - I will also look to secure grants and extra funding from other sources to make this a big event in 2011.

The tides for 2011 look great with a lead up moon and easy retrieval at Tantabiddi assuming the new ramps aren't completed by then.

Any questions, just ask.

Cheers,
Adam

'He's going to need a bigger bowl'

MONSTER GOLDFISH CATCH 2.2kgs

Edited from Daily Mail 15 July 2010

16 year old schoolboy Nick Richards was bowled over when he reeled in this 2.2kg goldfish while fishing at a local lake.

Nick Richards with a 5lb, 16ins goldfish he reeled in while fishing at a lake in Poole, Dorset

It is likely the 16 inch fish was released into the water after outgrowing its tank - and has apparently thrived in its new environment.

Schoolboy Nick was fishing for common carp when he noticed a flash of colour under the surface of the water and pointed his rod in its direction.  Moments later he had the goldfish, which is a type of carp usually found in fairgrounds and garden ponds, hooked on the end of the line.

It is thought Nick's catch, which he placed back in the water after taking this photograph, is the biggest in the UK.

Recalling the one that didn't get away, he said of the lake in Poole, Dorset: 'I'd heard rumours there might be some big carp there and thought I'd see for myself.  'I was there for two days running and caught some big common carp.  Then suddenly I saw this big orange fish cruising along the top of the lake.  At first I thought it must be a really fat Koi carp, but when I saw it properly I realised it was a common goldfish - just like one you might keep as a pet.  The only difference was that it was massive. It weighed 5lb when I put it on the scales'.

Ruth Lockwood, from the English Carp Heritage Organisation, said: 'It's difficult to confirm that it is the biggest ever caught in the UK, because it is an ornamental fish and the record won't be recognised by the British Records Fish Committee.

FISH FACTS

● The goldfish, known in Latin as Carassius auratus auratus is a small member of the carp family

● It was first domesticated in China more than 1,000 years ago and is commonly kept as a pet

● Goldfish typically grow to between two and 18 inches

● They have been known to live for 40 years

● Previously, the biggest goldfish in Britain measured 15.7in and weighed 2lb

What would you do?

Just want to know what other people would do for the following.

My fibreglass boat has just been delivered back to me from a repair that was carried out. The owner of the business delivered it to my house & i was disgusted at the state of it. It looked like it had been through a war in a flour mill & lost big time. Upon questioning this i was told it had been cleaned!!!! At no stage had it been cleaned. It hadn't seen a drop of water!!

I have spent many hrs cleaning it & filled a half bucket full of fibreglass & dust.

Not only that, the engine cowl has been scratched & the 'T' top now has a small tear in it & the complete lack of care is just unbelievable.

Any thoughts on what you would do in the same situation?
