$4million upgrade for Indian Ocean Drive
Submitted by Colin Hay on Fri, 2010-07-16 09:15A new passing lane is included in works under way on a $4million upgrade of a 24-kilometre section of Indian Ocean Drive between Yanchep and Seabird, north of Perth.
Transport Minister Simon O’Brien said Western Australian contractor Riverlea Corporation had won the construction contract, including road widening and intersection improvements.
“This project will improve safety and transport efficiency on an important section of Indian Ocean Drive,” Mr O’Brien said.
“Funding comes from the State and Commonwealth and should be completed before Christmas,” he said.
Works will extend from approximately 12 kilometres north of Yanchep to just south of the Seabird turnoff and include:
· widening of nearly 24 kilometres of existing bitumen road to nine metres
· upgrades to the Gingin Brook Road and Caraban Road intersections, including auxiliary lanes and turning pockets
· construction of a 1.8-kilometre long northbound overtaking lane just north of the Guilderton turnoff.
“The project will improve safety and traffic flow by providing wider lanes with sealed shoulders, increased overtaking opportunities and cutting travelling times,” the Minister said.
“The intersection improvements will allow vehicles to turn left or right into the relevant side roads without impeding through-traffic.”
Riverlea Corporation will use regional goods and services to an estimated value of $300,000, providing an economic boost for the region.
The 24-kilometre section of road forms part of Indian Ocean Drive linking Perth to Dongara and the Mid-West, complementing the nearby $106million Lancelin to Cervantes Road project - the final link in the Indian Ocean Drive route.
The Lancelin-Cervantes project is expected to be completed later this year, transferring an estimated 1,000 vehicles per day to the route from Brand Highway.

Prawns in the swan last night
Submitted by GrahamM on Thu, 2010-07-15 16:38Gday sorry i dont have any Pics.
Went to lose my cherry last night and have a dab for the infamous swan river prawns. My brother and i were keen or so we thought and headed off about 3pm from Morley to go and get a good spot down East Freo way.
With a few pit stops we hit the water about 4pm keen as mustard to have a crack. To my surprise when we got out there there were already boats anchored up so we had a feed and a couple of Jacks and cokes and waited for it to get dark. By the time it got dark there were about 30 boats around us. Some boats doing very well and some not doing so well. we ended up calling it quits about 9pm.
The best catch we saw was about 9 liters, My brother and i ended up with about 50 prawns so all in all a good night. i didnt get wet but ended up with a few prawns and i had a very enjoyable night on the river and would happily do it again.

Shimano 2010 reel releases: new Trinidad and more Talica II sizes
Submitted by till on Thu, 2010-07-15 06:23Shimano Trinidad A Series Reels
When the original Trinidad Reels were introduced over a decade ago, they were hailed as a revolution. Other than the obvious transition from gold to the sleeker silver/gunsmoke color scheme, the new Trinidad A reels feature updated gearing and drags that are found in later model reels. Also noteworthy is the addition of a 10A model Trini. Sizes introduced: 10A, 12A, 14A, 16NA, 16A, 20A and 30A.
New Shimano Talica II Reel Models
Shimano has expanded their Talica 2-Speed offerings with the addition of the 20II and 25II reels. These reels are great for trolling or casting applications. The Talica 20II and 25II are topless and feature harness lugs.
Shimano Thunnus CI4 Spinning Reels
Like the Trinidad, the original Thunnus spinners were introduced about a decade ago as a higher end version of the popular Baitrunner series. The CI4 series boasts many of the features found in higher price point reels such as the Stella SW and Spheros FE reels.

land based pinkies
Submitted by shanedm on Tue, 2010-07-13 18:55hey guys just wondering what your thoughts are on the most effective land based bait/methods for catching pinkies? i was thinking of trying out the standard paternoster rig with snelled hooks (or single depending on bait size) but im relatively new to this type of fishing and have yet to land a nice pink snapper whilst being still on land. any tips would be greatly appreciated :)

Fishing in Marine Parks
Submitted by JR JetSki on Tue, 2010-07-13 18:43I see in the gov rules that fishing in Marine parks is prohibited.
I am referring to the one in the Hillaries - Ocean Reef area. According to what I see on Google you need to go at least 5.7 km directly west to get ouf of this zone.
On the other hand they say no spear fishing from a boat 1800 meters from shore. The way I understand this all is that we are not allowed to fish off boats unless we are outside this exclusion zone.
Does this hold for Pelagic fish as well. I am not sure but the reef is about 3 km out so we cannot fish behind the reef, we have to go another 3 km beyond that. Do I understand this correctly?

Submitted by Dale on Tue, 2010-07-13 11:31Pro beach fishers, including pro salmon fisherman have been banned from fishing from Port Geographe to Black Point East. Should help recreational salmon fishers get amongst more fish before they are netted.
