Fusion Stereo Aerial
Submitted by Shane O on Thu, 2017-03-30 18:35I have a fusion stereo and a GME 27 meg radio, i have worked out how to get the radio working but there is not aerial so only just get coast fm and can barely hear that. i had a look underneath and found what apears to be a cord for a aerial, held that out and got coast fm really clear.
can this be attached to the gme aerial with a splitter? or is there another aerial i can attach?

Occy Shred?
Submitted by Mick C on Wed, 2017-03-29 21:19We have been offered a good supply of octopus “waste” from a local professional licence holder. He looked at our products in the tackle shops that he delivers to, and wondered if we would be interested.
Occy shred, in 1kg vacuum sealed lots, and 0.5kg cleaned heads might have market acceptance? Your thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Rock Fishing Albany "Secret Spots" Wanted
Submitted by Hook_er on Wed, 2017-03-29 16:06Hi Lads,
I'm heading down to Albany in a few weeks and keen to try some rock fishing.
Now I know I wont be getting any secret spots but if anyone could PM me with some decent rock fishing spots it would be much appreciated.
If you could let me know what species it would be awesome ... I'd like to target some Blackass (Breaksea Cod) and maybe if I'm lucky some other demersal species.
Any help or advice I'd be stoked with.
Thanks in advance.

line twist
Submitted by Anonymous on Wed, 2017-03-29 13:33hey folks
A bit of a noob question but just wondering with all questions about fg knots and joining braid to mono/fluro, when you remove the swivel from your line and you're jigging with plastics/metals, do you get much line twist?

Road Trip Help
Submitted by Craggles on Wed, 2017-03-29 07:26Gday All,
Taking the family on our first camping road trip this July and just organising all the gear I want to take with me.
These are the places we're going
- Karajini
- 80 Mile Beach*
- Fitzroy
- Kununurra*
- Broom*
- Karratha
- Carnarvon
I've chucked a * next to the places I want to fish.
My gear is reasonably depleted and I'm just wondering what people think I should be taking? I'm normally fish with bait but am keen to get the lures going also, will just be taking my Sol 3000 and Penn 950 beach setup.
Any tips on what to take for a noob like myself much appreciated

6 days in Dunsborough
Submitted by gruntre69 on Tue, 2017-03-28 14:42Starting today, would love to get a few crays from diving & maybe a dhu or pinky for my oldies visiting from Queensland. Could possibly juggle the new baby and get out a 2 or 3 of times but never been here before. Had a look at canal rocks ramp this morning but would be difficult for my 74 yo dad to control the boat there if it blows up a bit coming in, so will probably need to launch at quindalup.
Looking for suggestions on areas to target. Saw naturalist reef (longish hike)and wrights bank on navionics. Are these worth a look? I would like to get around the west of the cape if the weather allows as well. Anyway, any pointers from locals about current conditions & pointers about general directions would be appreciated.

Cape Naturaliste rock fishing
Submitted by chris1108 on Tue, 2017-03-28 14:22Hi,
I'm a bit new to fishing, so keen to get some advice about fishing at Cape Naturaliste. I am planning to be there bright and early tomorrow around 5:00am. I have the entire day free to go wherever around the Yallingup, Dunsborough, Busselton area.
I was planning on going to the largest rock formation at Sugarloaf Rock (i.e. where I can walk out and cast from one of the anchor points), but I've never been there and I'm not sure the conditions will be the best. I'm also trying to be as cautious as possible while I'm getting more experience. First light is 6:00am which is low tide. But the forecasted swell on Willy Weather is 2.5m by 6:00am and rough. Is it worth fishing there in those conditions? I've got a new rope and harness and PFD, so I feel I've taken the right precautions about safety. I am on my own, but I've let others know where I'll be and I have all of the recommended gear. I just don't want to get frustrated after getting set up, so if this looks like a bad choice, can someone pls explain why and make some suggestions?
By the way, I'm taking a Fin-Nor Fury 10ft rod and using a Saragosa spinning reel. I have mullet, squid, and pilchards as well as soft lures. I'm hoping to find a good spot to do some slide baiting.
Thanks in advance.

Big John's Jigs
Submitted by The Saint on Tue, 2017-03-28 07:00Took advantage of Oceanside's recent sale and stocked up on a bit of gear and grabbed a few of Big John's jigs to try out at Shark Bay next month.
Have never used this type of jig before and just after a bit of advice on how to use them. Cast and retreive ? vertical jigging ? fast or slow ?
Thanks in advance for your replies.
Cheers

Also if you could choose between the uni knot and the double blood knot which one would you choose.

who to trust
Submitted by maldugs on Mon, 2017-03-27 20:22Hi checked my boat battery today as it has been sitting for 4 weeks, the voltage was 12.26 Volts, just to make sure I rang a well known battery supplier and was told "the battery is dead flat, bring it in and we will see if it can be recharged" , thought that this advise was a bit strange, as I have had no trouble with it in the past. So I rang an Auto Electrician who said "flat at 12.26 Volts, you have to be joking, they are just trying to sell you a new battery" so I guess it pays to check with a reputable business.

Saturday 25th March
Submitted by z00m on Sat, 2017-03-25 19:10A quickly arranged plan during the week with MickC was put into action today. The plan was, if the conditions permit then we would explore some ground I have been prospecting in 50m as early as possible. Forecast was for dropping SE winds through the morning so we hit Hillarys at first light and steamed West. We pulled up at a likely spot and tried a bit of a drift to start as we could see some fish on the sounder. This resulted in an undersize baldy. The current was really ripping and it was hard to keep contact with the bottom with even 8oz sinkers at anchor.
We then decided to anchor up and see how we went. I managed to pull in a PB sambo in amongst a few sambos we were able to tangle with first up. There would have been 4 or 5 of these between us come over the side to be released. I was pretty stoked to give the sambo a workover on a rod I had been leaving at home as it didn't seem to fit in. It is an Ugly Stick GX2 overhead and marked as a 10kg rod. My other rods are Pioneer Tuna Terrors and have used them for over a year as my all rounders. The Pioneer rods are quite stiff and I have felt like they maybe weren't sensitive enough for bottom bouncing. The Ugly Stick has a really nice action and is bit softer in the tip so it worked out really well. It's not an expensive rod but worked really well for me.

After a few other fish including more sambos, an undersize pink and another undersize baldy, Mick managed to catch a small tuna as he was winding in his floater. When we cut this for bait it was almost too succulent to put on the hook. Mick put a large slab on his floater and I put a small piece in my selection for the bottom rig. It wasn't long and with an inceribly soft bite I set the hooks into something that felt big. Didn't seem to be another Sambo, it made some early runs but after about 10mins on the fight and two trips around the boat up popped a large Dhufish like a submarine doing an emergency blow. Mick was quick with the gaff and we boated this 18.3kg model that was 1.04m long. Happy is an understatement! Weight was done on commercial scales. It well and truly didn't fit into the esky that's for sure. The GX2 strikes again and the Dhu took the bait on a tiny Size 2 Mustad long shank circle beak hook. You can sure catch big fish on small hooks!

I hooked up to something else after this and the rig broke at the dropper twist so I think it was damaged by the big Dhu. I changed to a new rig with bigger hooks and after another good Sambo, I hooked up to something that didn't stop as soon as the hooks were set. When I say it didn't stop I mean it spooled me of the leader, braid and backing to the tune of about 250m. The line popped before we could react and get the anchor in and go after the fish. Always the tale of the one that got away!

Day out
Submitted by luke george on Sat, 2017-03-25 16:07Left before sunrise this morning to have a go at a dolphinfish, which unfortunately were no where to be seen. Tried a quick jig for sambos, also no luck. We then dropped some baits on some likely looking ground in 100m and the fish turned it for us.
Biggest skip went 65cm easily my biggest to date, deepwater mulloway also a first for me. Smiles and beers all round, on the old man's bday too. Win win
