Found

Found a boat whinch handle at the Point Peron Boat ramp today, if you can tell me what colour the handle is your welcome to have it back.

Day out

Left before sunrise this morning to have a go at a dolphinfish, which unfortunately were no where to be seen. Tried a quick jig for sambos, also no luck. We then dropped some baits on some likely looking ground in 100m and the fish turned it for us.

Biggest skip went 65cm easily my biggest to date, deepwater mulloway also a first for me. Smiles and beers all round, on the old man's bday too. Win win

Any ideas? came from 110m off rotto. Looks similar to a ling cod in my eyes but don't think we get them here. Thanks guys

Dampier camping/fishing advice

Hi all, have 4 days off and was thinking of doing a little camping trip off Dampier. Having never been I'd just like some advice. I have a 4.2m boat and looking at getting to the closer islands. Is this possible? Also what islands can you actually camp on, have tried the search button but got some old posts, maybe it's changed?

Any tips will be well appreciated, will take camping supplies so is it reasonably safe leaving stuff on the beach while we go fish and snorkel etc?

Many thanks in advance.

The Fishing Guide to Western Australia “NEW REVISED EDITION” is now in stock!

The Fishing Guide to Western Australia “NEW REVISED EDITION” is now in stock!

Shop owner Ryan Thipthorp is a co-author of this book and spent a lot of time with good mate and also co-author Kurt Blanksby in revising this book. The final co-author Frank Prokop also helped out with the book so it’s fully revised and updated including; fishing map info, text, photos, super deep info and a new section on Demersal and Kayak fishing (brief overview only)

The Fishing Guide to Western Australia is a complete guide to fishing Western Australia’s offshore, coastal and estuarine waters. This also includes some of the most spectacular and isolated spots in Australia as well as the most productive and exciting fishing locations.

Where and when to fish, and how to catch various fish species is outlined with detailed maps identifying specific fishing areas from the Kimberley, down the coast and around to the South Australian border. Also in the book is boat ramp info and fishing tips making this book the best and most comprehensive on Fishing in Western Australia.

Pop in and check out the book - Open 7 Days

Ps - I just wanted to say a big thankyou to all Fishwrecked Members that offered me their photo's for my revised edition

Most went in and some were left out due to the shear number of pics ...... the layout editor had the last say on what was used!

If you have any questions about your photo's in the book feel free to PM the shop account ..... cheers Ryan Thipthorp

Looking good tomorrow

Will be a busy ramp tomorrow I think. Early fish for a pinky or 2 then out to check the sambo spot for a jig as the pelagic action has really dropped off in close compared to about 3 weeks ago from what ive noticed. Im expecting to hear a few salmon reports tomorrow as there were already a few schools pushing into the sound last weekend.

Whats everyone else planning?

Bait Cannon

Simple & cheap to make so if it gets me a good distance further out than just casting on the beach, I want one. Would beat the pants of yakking out baits at night. The question is: How legal/illegal are they in WA? Anybody know or have any thoughts on it?

Firearms at sea?

Hi guys,

Not sure if its been covered here before, but I couldn't find anything with search- Just wondering if anyone here can shed some light on the legalities of having (legally owned) firearms at sea? As far as I know its not illegal to have them at sea, but was wondering how you'd go if you got stopped by fisheries at the ramp or po po and they saw a gun case sitting in the cabin of the boat?

Cheers!

Squid at Freo

was thinking of going for a drift for squid, between Fishing boat Harbour, and South Mole, got a good bag of them a few years ago, but have not been back since, does anyone know if they are catching them in this area?

Fishin round point peron

Anyone else been there lateley, if so what ya been gettin would like to know sorry for late post

Swan river

Hi all

Planning for boat trip along swan river on weekend with family to include bit of fishing for flathead etc

Not done it before so wondering what's recommended launch ramp and areas good for a fish. Also any areas to stop off for picnic etc

Is it even worth launching from Woodies and heading into river that way?

Cheers

JDM specialist too good not to share

Just wanting to let you guys know of a discovery i made on a recent trip to Kuala Lumpur. While I was there, a mate of mine brought me to a tackle store named Anglers Central based in Petaling Jaya. Little did I know that this store is JDM heaven! Lots of mid-high end Japanese products at great prices. Reminded me of a recent trip to japan where i visited multiple tackle stores with rows and rows of lures and reels. Definitely worth a visit if any of you guys are in Malaysia.  Anyone else know of any other good tackle stores to visit in asia? I'll probably be making another quick trip to singapore and Kuala Lumpur and was thinking of doing a bit of shopping seeing as though the AUD$ is great at the moment!

Midweek update for ABROLHOS Comp. (PIC HEAVY)

Well, its wednesday morning and im stuck out @ work in the gulf whilst all the lads at home are fishing in the annual HALCO ABROLHOS comp back at home.

Least im lucky enough to be getting semi-regular updates to allow me to update the facebook and web page. Figured i would throw a pictures up on here also for the crew that dont follow us.

A total of 11 boats with 43 people entering the comp enjoyed a fair few beers with old friends and made some new ones in the process at Pigeon island within the "Wallabi" group on Saturday for the briefing night. The promise of a "LAY DAY" due to a strong wind warning was enough excuss for some to continue into the early hours of the morning.

Day 1 ended up being a lay day which some used to enjoy the great fishing the islands have to offer, other skippers were a bit harder and used the day to scrub decks and get some last minute maint in, and then strait back to the pub to continue with rehydrating the body.

Day 2 was the first day of fishing, The weather was fishable but a strong SE breeze met the field. Plenty of good water was found by the boats heading wide with deep blue clean water at around 24.5 degrees. Plenty of bait around although scattered and some fish marked well. Balek hooked up early and managed to get a tag in with Mandina, Top Deck and Innervisions all dropping fish.
Really Black and Teralisa headed north with no reports of fish from them.
Oceanic, Mandalay and Allure fished line class with some reports of some good tuna around even though the sharks were around in good numbers. It looks like Balek took the day with 2 stripes and 1 blue from 7 fish raised. Top Deck managed to score a nice yellow fin which topped the scales at 51.6kg

Day 3 Started off with a magic sunrise over any island the boats anchored up behind and only got better from there. Still light on the reports from this day, but i got word that BALEK managed to tag a blue estimated @ 140kg and a second @ 180kg. Both INNERVISIONS and REELY BLACK also both tagged a blue each. In the light game class there has been a heap of mackies around and a decent tuna coming in for a nice surprise.

Day4 has just started and by the looks of it everyone set off nice and early as no reports have come in yet. If the forcast is anything to go by, the weather is going to start getting worse from tonight onwards, so i imagine teams will be out making the most of the bite before it comes in rough.

If everyone wants, ill edit this post with the updates after the comp has finished and let ya know on final numbers of fish and who won what catagory. Otherwise drop past our facebook page (Geraldton & Districs offshore fishing club) and i post updates on there as soon as i get them.

Shark Bay in April

Hi guys,
I am taking my boat to Denham on the 8th of April for what I hope will be a lifetime thrill of chasing fish & exploring the beautiful area on the water.
Will I be able to find fish easy enough ?
Do we have to run across to Dirk Hartog Island to find fish ?? I have a 22ft Fraser with a 200 ETECH so no worries about getting anywhere.
thanks in advance from a Shark Bay virgin

Dad and daughter day

Gday all just a quick report on mondays day out with my daughter from point samson . Thought we would sneak a trip in before the cyclone later in the week and the conditions didnt disapoint as the photos show.we got going about 8.30 and about an hours steam we arrived and it was on straight away first drop my daughter got the 3 reds on the one rig , next was a healthy trout come over the side which was dispatched and into the slurry after that it was reds and trout one after the other. so with a few in the esky we decided to move try find some rankins or spangleds but it was just reds and trout they were literally like blowflies .not a bad problem to have i suppose . All in all a great day out with my daughter Hayley and some quality fish to boot.

Cheers Carry

Steep Point

Hi folks, just wondering who is heading to Steep Point in May.

I know bellyfish is heading up there in April, so i will be keeping an eye on here for updates.

I will post any info i get on track conditions, flies etc, so if anyone else can post it would be appreciated.

Not using the boat stress

This time of the year it drives me mad looking at my boat when I can,t use it due to, wrong wind conditions, bad weather etc.

Battery ok?

Hi, checked the battery in the 4.88M Quintrex seabreeze I bought 6 weeks ago, it is an Exide deep cycle 725CCA 115AH which is 2 years old, I guess it is big enough to power/start everything, I have had no trouble with it, do you think I should get a new battery or keep it for a while?

Your thoughts on a new Fish Ranger feature?

Fishwrecked users I would like to get your thoughts on a new feature I am thinking of developing for Fish Ranger.

As has already been stated, knowing live wind readings really helps to decide if you are going to stay out (or if you are actually going to get out of bed when the alarm goes off!). The problem with sites that offer live readings is that you only get live data for one location (Fish Ranger / WillyWeather) or you get live data for multiple locations but without forecasts at those locations (Seabreeze).

What about a page where you could see a series of wind charts that have:

1) Live real-time wind data. Seperate chart for each observation station surrounding your area.

2) Forecasts at those locations overlaid on the same charts as the live readings.

This way you would see live-readings and their corresponding forecasts for your whole region. This would give you a better indication if forecasters have got it right in the general area and so give you more confidence the forecast for your spot (ie especially if you are offshore) is going to be fairly accurate or not on that day.

Additionally, if you know there is a forecast change due to hit your location, you can keep an eye on charts for surrounding stations - say 50km away, and see if hits them on time. If so then you have more confidence it will hit you at the forecast time as well. If its early to hit far away stations then it will probably be early to hit you too, and vice versa.

This feature which I'm thinking of calling'Wind Cast' would be a seperate page to the current 'Forecast' page and would probably replace the Tide,Sun & Moon page which would get relegated down the menu priority list.

What are your thoughts, would this feature be: not useful, OK, pretty good or frigin awesome ?

Cheers,

Joe

Advice needed for NOR fishing

So, I have moved from Warnbro to Inglewood and my boat is back from repairs soon. I'm itching to get out and do some fishing. Problem is I don't know Perth metro fishing at all.

I was launching from Safety Bay or Rockingham and going out to the reef. I am generally happy with Skippy, King George, odd Snapper, etc. I don't feel the need to go out 500 miles or catch the largest fish in the ocean. I am happy to fill up the smoker.

Can anyone give me tips for where to go,  when and where from?

Cheers

Tim

Kalbarri water colour after the swell

can those in Kalbarri let me know how the water colour is after the weekends large swell, And more particularly if the mackeral are still around in the dirty water the swell created. was coming up 21/3, but may delay a few more days if the mackeral have gone quiet. may be a bit early to ask this I know....

AIBT Exmouth footage

Hey guys, weather was rough and fishing was slow but still had a great time at AIBT in Exmouth last week.

Quick clip of a nice little black marlin we tagged filmed on an iphone, fight time was a bit over an hour on 15kg spin gear fish was feisty and I was pretty exhausted by the end battling both the weather and fish but was still great fun.

www.youtube.com/watch

Check it out in HD, hope the weather comes good for any of you fishing GAMEX!

Cheers
