Just wondering what dongara is like fishing when swell is up? Is it easy enough to get out in 2-2.5m swells? Meant to be going up last week in may weather pending. Have never fished there before

I'm keen on doing a fishing trip up north WA or NT with my two boys.

The 2 objectives are to get amongst some Barra and to land a Black Jew....anything else is a bonus.

I've seen a few...Shady Camp, One Tree Beach, Barra Camp, Kimberley Coastal Camp etc.  Some live aboard, others stay in a lodge of sorts.  Probably looking at around 5 days/nights.  Looks like Feb-May is the "season".

Has anyone done a trip like this that they would recommend?

When I go out to restaurants and order deep fried squid, their squid is generally very tender, particularly in chinese restaurants.  When I do it at home, it is always chewy.  I know that you need to cook it for less than a minute, but it still isn't tender.  How do you guys make your squid tender, or is it the cooking process?

After some touring advise on good places to camp out wihile doing a 9 day buccaneer trip. specifically wher is waterfall creek, somehere in to moore up or camp in talbot bay on near the horizontals and somehere over at doubtfull bay if we get that far.

Planning a decent round trip weather permitting past horizontals up the walcot, doubtfull bay then back past montgomery reef.

 I'm having problems -again - with my Profish. Certain components are damaged and the spare parts pricing system makes the mafia look like a benevolent society. Anyone else had problems? They are very easily damaged if the anchor is pulled up too tight into the bow roller/fairlead. I'm working on a possible cheap fix, that, should it work out, I'll be happy to share. 

 Just been given a couple of older PFD Type 1 life jackets to use as spares but not sure they are still legal to use  . They are marked as Australian Standard AS1512 .

I know there is a newer standard but not sure if AS1512 can still be used .

 Anyone experienced bite offs while deep dropping for rubys.recently Fished with 120lb leader and was catching decent rubys 10kg+. A couple of times we hooked what felt the same but bigger ones only to be bitten off after a few minutes. question is should I be using heavier leader or is there other sharp tooth critters down there responsible? definatly did not feel like the fish were sharked dropped fish were typical of popped leader or pulled hooks.

 Couple of days dropping with the wife and kids , lots of banter and sledging while we all took our 5 or 10 minutes on the rod 

One day on the rubys and the other we went back to an old mark to chase a few 8 bar but after these 2 we called it early and went for a late pub feed

Quick trip out yesterday after lunch to get the daughter out for a squid session, weather was pretty sweat so through we try a few drifts on the back of the five. I've had advice on here previously about using the shift function to get a better shot on the right hand side of the screen. This I have struggled with until taking it out of Bottom lock first and using bottom zoom...this let me choose the bottom 5 or 10m etc. Pic attached I have then gone back to bottom lock. Maybe common knowledge for other Furuno users but through I post it anyway....any other tips are always welcome.

Any way, first drop the daughter gets a fright..dad dad, lol. short fight she lands her first Snapper and is pretty chuffed. I then hooked up to a solid fight before losing the rig on 60lb leader....I then went on to drop another fish so we moved in and had a quick look at the seal lazing on carnac before drifting for a few squid.

She pulled this PB before rolling me 4 - 0...such is life. Good arvo on the water.

     Fishing of Dongara this weekend with 3 on board. Caught a nice dhuie but got sharked and only got back about half the fish.

     Only dhu we got but one of the guys asked the question and we couldnt answer it. Saw Fisheries at the ramp, which is always good

     to see those guys, so we posed the question to them and they also didnt know the answer so I'm just gonna put it out there.

     Does that half fish count towards the bag limit? i would think it does even though a shark got half of it.

     Fisheries officer seemed to think maybe not but neither of us would risk the fine if wrong. 

      What do you legends think?

 Heading for Kal on thursday, just wondered if there are fish to be caught in these unusual formations or do your lines get ripped to pieces ?
