Screen shot
Submitted by Ericl on Mon, 2021-10-11 19:40Came across a spot out of Hillaries a while back. Sounder totally lights up. On Sunday, at times we couldn't see the bottom, so thick at 8 metres that the bottom got lost. Passed this spot 3 times on my last 3 trips and has been much the same each time. We have pulled tailor, lots of US snapper, some decent King Wrasse for bait and the biggest NW Blowie I have ever seen. Has anyone else come across this type of sounder showing

Dinghy snap davits
Submitted by davewillo on Mon, 2021-10-11 15:36Hi all
I'm looking to get a snap davit system installed on my marlin board and new dinghy. These are what you see on a lot of boats so the inflatable dinghy can be clipped on one side and then just lifted on the other side so it's sitting on the edge of the marlin board. I have found where to buy them but want someone to fit everything too. I could probably fumble my way through but if I stuff it up I'd kick myself hard!
Does anyone have suggestions of who might be able to fit these? The supplier doesn't and neither does the Hillary Boat yard who have shipwrights. I'm at a loss and want to get it done when the boat comes out for service in 2 weeks. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Cheers

VHF and 27MHz?
Submitted by plugga25 on Sun, 2021-10-10 15:54
G'day legends.
I got a VHF radio to put in my 5m Quintrex project boat.
It already has a 27MHz installed and I'm wondering on opinions.
Would it be worth having both radios or just go with the VHF?
Cheers

Heads up if your launching at hillarys
Submitted by uncle on Sun, 2021-10-10 10:11You can no longer take the first left after the roundabout, you need to go down and turn left at the marine and harbor building, it was a real cluster...k this morning, most boats taking the first left and having to circle back through the car parks where there was a meeting for mustangs, don’t know the reason for the change.

Fishing Hat
Submitted by C.P on Fri, 2021-10-08 09:03Hey guys, its time for me to buy a new hat for the boat and im interested to hear what others think works best.
I have fair skin so i need to be careful about sun burn and need to cover up well - A baseball cap is not good enough
but of course theres the practical aspect of it also, some hats are a bit cumbersome
What kind of hat do you like to wear when fishing?

Dunsborough from boat
Submitted by ctan1968 on Sat, 2021-10-02 13:44Hello all,
Going to Dunsborough for 3 nights with family and although the winds look a bit strong, I am hoping to get a window or 2.
I have a 5.6 Barcrusher and would like to just stay in the bay chasing squid and some whiting - maybe spot the odd whale.
Is the Old Boat ramp suitable for my boat?
Any advice as to how the catches are going?
Thanks in advance.

Cheap way to buy a Beastmaster 9000
Submitted by samd on Tue, 2021-09-28 20:30Hey guys,
Decided to buy a Beastmaster 9000A to replace my Tanacom 1000. After a little searching online I got smart. Found one on the east coast (a tackleworld) on sale for $1999 (cheaper than any local store), then made my local Anaconda beat them by 10%. Walked away with one for $1800. A lot cheaper than the RRP!
hope this is useful to someone else...
cheers!

Vex Bottom Meat
Submitted by Willlo on Mon, 2021-09-27 08:57So , who has used these things? I bought one for a laugh the other day. I havent been fishing for about 6 months due to one thing or another , so needed some hooks and spotted these bottom meats and thought i would try. Picked up a smal dhu and a flathead that must have come up of the bottom to commit suicide lol , on a pretty quiet day by all reports. I was pretty impressed lots of hooks and shiny bits and you can add bait ( im Old school lol) . So just wondering anyone else used them and what size configuration for particular species do you guys use?
Cheers from a non lure user maybe lol.

Navionics on Raymarine
Submitted by trepangdua on Thu, 2021-09-23 11:08
I just got a new Axiom 9 from Raymarine.
It uses Navionics on its plotter.
It came with an Australian wide card.
The detail is crap. Nowhere near what I can get on my phone using the mobile app. I updated the card online still little detail on the plotter.
Anyone else had this happen? Any fixes?

Northern Fishing Charters
Submitted by Uluabuster on Wed, 2021-09-22 16:50G'day Folks,
Chasing some info on north west / mid west charters chasing barramundi, mangrove jacks / threadfin salmon in the estuary. Preferred method of fishing is casting at snags for fish failing which trolling is the fall back option. No bait fishing.
Will be bringing all my tackle so doesn't really matter if they don't provide.
If it gives the option of exploring bluewater action that'll be icing on the cake.
Hoping to do the charter in Oct or Nov - I know it's a long shot but I'll just put in on the table anyway.
If you can let me know either by replying or PM that'll be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Uluabuster

No tackle failure
Submitted by Ericl on Sun, 2021-09-19 18:02Had a good day out today with my son and Stevieboy. A great dhuie at close to 98cm, 2 good snapper, one over 80 and the other over 70 and 3 nice baldies. Got the dhuie while heading to some ground fished previously when there was a little spike on the sounder. Went back and sounded around and found a small lump with some fish activity. Activated spot lock on my Minn Kota and dropped some baits. After a few minutes, my son got smashed and started to bring in what he kept saying was the biggest fish he had ever hooked. After a lengthy fight on lightish rod, up popped this absolute cracker to end an epic day. dont think we would have managed without spot lock as this was a very small lump. Back at the ramp by 2 which for me is quite an achievement. Best of all, no tackle failures - after having cut up all my old rigs and starting over again. No unknown items ever again

Cray tipper and winch.
Submitted by Where's North on Fri, 2021-09-17 17:22Is there a right and wrong side for a tipper. I had planned to install a tipper on the Starboard side so as skipper I could line up easily on the pot rope/float. And of course have the winch mounted on the Port side. Some have suggested that the tipper should be on the Port side but are unable to explain why. What is the weight of opinion or expert advise?
Thank you for your comments
