Project boat deconstruction
Submitted by Silver Fox on Thu, 2021-07-29 08:42Started pulling the lil Whaler apart yesterday. Plan is to turn her into a big open dingy with a 100 horse tiller steer on the rear. The main deck came out in one piece which is great so it can be re used. Just need to dig out the old fuel tanks and all of that damn foam.

Advice on Rod
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Wed, 2021-07-28 22:08I'm going to buy my boy a Y6 graduation pressie and am thinking a nice combo would be something he'll keep for many many and get heaps of joy out of. He's taken a liking to my Type J/5000 Biomaster or Catalina/5000 Biomaster combos which gives me anxiety when he uses them so looking for something similar.
Budget is around $500 and probably go a 5000 Stradic so can anyone recommend a rod around the $150‐200 mark.
The Saltist 18 PE2-4 rods look like they will fit the bill so has anyone used one of those?
Cheers JF

Lowrance ethernet connectors
Submitted by Richyjerrett on Mon, 2021-07-26 19:10I'm looking at networking a couple of Lowrance HDS screens via the Yellow Ethernet connectors.
I only need about a 200mm long cable, does anybody know where I can get the connectors to fit Lowrance/Simrad from please?
I've had a scour around the internet and cant find them and I want to make one up myself.
Thanks people.

Simrad Evo 3 help setting custom depth
Submitted by wagyl on Mon, 2021-07-26 12:27I need some help with my Simrad Evo 3 setting the custom depth. I can use it and zoom on the bottom up to 8X, but if I am in deeper water it reads fine with 8X zoom. I then try and set upper depth and lower depth, so say in 150m of water, I set the upper depth to 100m and the lower depth to 170m but it doesn't read. I have the same problem with my Elite TI so I must be doing something wrong. Any suggestions?

Icom IC-M200
Submitted by Ericl on Sat, 2021-07-24 13:06Hi
Further to a recent post, I went ahead and purchased an Icom. Went for the entry level unit IC-M200.
Installed it this morning and when I went to test it a while ago, I found that I couldn't select Hi power on channel 77. The manual does say that some channels cant select Hi. This would be a bit of a problem as Ocean Reef sea rescue use this channel
Any advice will be most welcome
Thanks

DIY Boat Wrap?
Submitted by MarineSkins on Wed, 2021-07-21 18:32Hi everyone,
I have been looking at some other posts on this forum on the topic of vinyl wrapping your own boat.
Most people seem to have been successful at wrapping on their first attempt which is awesome however, since we are trying to improve our service as an online diy boat wrap kit supplier, I was wondering if anyone had any doubts or concerns that we could address?
We have had great feedback (especially from members of this forum!) on our designs, instructions and prices which is great but we are still happy to answer any questions and offer tips etc, whether you got your wrap from us or not.
BTW I am loving this fourm - been spending way too much time on here haha!

"Negative Encounters"
Submitted by The Saint on Mon, 2021-07-19 12:11I guess losing a limb will be far less traumatic if it is just a "negative encounter" rather than an attack.
Or maybe it's being politically correct so that the sharks aren't offended.................. !

Onslow 14-21 August
Submitted by Mack1 on Sat, 2021-07-17 15:19 I will be caravanning in Onslow for a week arriving 14/8 and leaving 22/8 this year and I am keen to get out to try for a mackerel or two. I have tried the charters that usually operate in town but for one reason or another they are not operating. I thought that there may be a local or someone who knows a local who may be going out during this week. I have my boat fishing gear, rod reel lures etc with me. I was even lucky enough to catch some nice gars in Carnarvon.
A bit of a long shot I know but I thought I would give it a try. I can obviously contribute to fuel etc.
Thanks in advance for anyone who can help.

Electrical connections
Submitted by Ericl on Tue, 2021-07-13 16:28Hi all
Re-doing my pot winch connections as they had corroded badly.
I have an inline circuit breaker which attaches via an anderson plug on the removable winch switch to a permanently mounted anderson plug on the boat.
I am considering using a bit of carbon conductive grease under the nuts on the breaker and then coating the nuts and posts with a sealer - possibly starbrite liquid electrical tape - which I already have.
Also thought of using a drop of carbon grease on the anderson connectors.
Any thoughts of pros or cons on the above
Cheersw

Whirring and squeaking spinning reel
Submitted by M.an I. L.ove F... on Sun, 2021-07-11 18:26Hi guys
A couple days ago i came back from a fishing trip testing out my new fin nor lethal lt100. I left the reel in a rod holder whilst we trekked it out to a spot in 70m of water. It wouldve copped a bit of sea spray during the trip but i gave the reel a gentle spray down with fresh water once we got back from the ramp. a few days later as i was tying on a new fg knot, i noticed that the reel was making a squeaking noise when winding slow and and a noisy whirring sound when winding fast. I took the spool off to see if there was something wrong with the spool that was causing the noise, but it was still making the same sound so it cant have been the spool. I then spun the reel's handle off to see if it was the handle making the noise, it wasnt. Theres something up with the reels internals making these sounds and i was wondering if it could be that salt water has already intruded just with one fishing trip or if maybe the internals just havent been lubricated enough by manufacturers (although i did notice that there was a lot of grease throughout the rotor and drag system) or maybe the sounds being caused by something else entirely (maybe just that it's a cheap reel).
Just wondering if anyone has any idea whats wrong or what i should do. Im not sure whether i should take apart the reel as im not confident that i can put it back together. any replies would be greatly appreciated.

Mobile auto sparky or someone clever
Submitted by Curndog on Sat, 2021-07-10 16:54Hey guys,
anyone know any mobile auto sparkys NOR or anyone clever with sounders that I can pay cash? I'm normally not too bad with sorting issues with wiring out myself but this time it's broken me. I'm also scared that it's actually my sounder that is stuffed. Any names / numbers would be appreciated. Cheers
