South Coast Marlin

 G'day,

I have been Game fishing in the Exmouth and Dampier areas for over ten years. I live in Albany and over the last few years have had the urge to get out wide and see if what I could raise from the depths off Albany and Denmark! I am interested to see if anybody else has tried this and if so how did you go? There has been Mackerel, Mahi Mahi and Cobia caught down here for at least the last 3 years could there be a run of Billfish we are missing out on?? Interested to know your thought!!

southwest reef abalone locations

Hi all.

I've got friends visiting from overseas and I would love to take them to catch some abalone down south (Busselton, Margaret River, Augusta etc). Nothing crazy, just off a reef like we do here in Perth during the season.

Is anybody able to share some good/popular spots for this? I'm not after any secret locations or hardcore diving spots, just simple, easy to get to, safe reef abalone.

Thanks in advance!

Coal Mine Beach

Hi All

We're off to Coal Mine Beach over Christmas and New years with the Polycraft.  Haven't been before and so I've been doing a fair bit of reading through the forums - thanks for the info.  Just wondering if anyone can get me started with a few spots fairly close-ish to the caravan park where the kids might be able to catch a few.  There'll be 4 kids from the two families and so the attention span is not long.

Thanks

Ben

Exmouth GT fishing Help please

Hi all . Have been going to Exmouth for the past 10 years chasing billies but next year the crew want to mix it up and try something new. Gt fishing was the pick but have no idea where to try . Do any of the islands in the gulf hold fish or do we need to venture to Peak or Long island . Have be told the Murons but not sure where to try , north island - south island east or west sides ?  Not Going until start of april next year and dont know if this is suitable time to try for them .

Southern speices

 G'day all

I was just wondering what sort of big fish(apart from sharks) that could be caught in or around Augusta?

Will be happy to trade blackwood river spots(bream, whiting, salmon, tailor) for some ocean spots.

I just thought it would be cool to give some ocean fishing ago instead of catching bream all day but I'm not sure what speices to target.

Thanks

most exciting thing about today was the water temp>

went out today hoping for some more YTKs, but only ended up with 12 nice skippy, a shark and a few red and white wrasse for muldy, young fisheries bird said to watch out for fox fish which look very similar to the wrasse, imagine getting fined $400 for what you thought was a wrasse!!!!!!!! too calm I think bit the water temp was 23.2, up 1.7 from last week, there is a strong current from the north as there was last week, fisheries also said they will be looking for out of date flares in January

Pots around North Molo.

Went to North Molo on Sat night, pretty packed as always on the weekend. To make it even worst, there is around 20 pots around the north face of the molo within about 20 meters of the edge of the rocks, so well within everyone’s casting distance. So people has to squeeze even more, which creates all sorts of issues. Is the ocean really so small, that this is the only place, the “person in interest” found to put his pots in? There is not many decent LB fishing spots in the metro area, so when you are lucky enough to have a boat, don’t ruin it for a little guy and move your pots bit further please. Are there any rules regarding how far the pots have to be, etc?

Rod ideas for my xmas prezzie!

Hey, just looking for some advice on what rod to buy to target landbased sharks.

I have a penn 950 to put on the rod. I'm looking for a rod that will cast heavy weights and that i could use for sliding baits. My budget is approx $250(maybe a little more).

I have been using the search function and looking all over the net, and i have found some great reviews of more expensive rods like loomis and frankling shockwave, poseidon 5 tip and gary howard LBG spin.

I also looked at live fibre, which are more my price range, but couldn't really find any info about people using them for sliding.

any info would be greatly appreciated.

cheers matt

Sneakyfisho

Hi Guys, have been pondering this for over a week now as to post this or not but after reading Thomasrick's post (http://fishwrecked.com/forum/be-warned-0) i have decided to post.

I had found http://sneakyfisho.com/index.php/fish/today/ through ebay and bid on an item, won the item and was happy with the purchase, anyway i decided to order a couple of rods from thier site, now the shipping costs were stated at the time that any purchase over $70 would be free shipping Australia wide but purchases containing rods even over $70 would be charged at $15 flat rate, i thought fair enough so i bought the rods (teloscopic for putting in the back of the car), payed by paypal and thought nothing of it, next day checked my bank account to see that i had been charged $110 extra on the price of the rods not the $15!

So i send them an email and after 2days without a responce i find another email address for them and email again, forwarding the invoice and asking why i had been charged the extra $110, this email was responded to promptly with the responce that i had incured a $55 surcharge per rod as freighting to Port Hedland is expensive!, so i reply again asking about the $15 flat rate this time i haven't recieved a reply(email sent on thursday) but i see that on the website the freight charges now say "refer sale item surcharge" for purchases containing rods.

Sorry about my whinge but feel that i should warn others that may be looking for a bargain.

Boat ramp - first bad experience

I have had nothing but enjoyable experiences boating, fishing etc... with the family - However today that changed.

After returning from a great morning boating and fishing with my wife and kids to Woodies boat ramp, we tied up (far end of the ramp), and I went to retrieve the vehicle. By the time I returned another boatie had pull in the car bay  in front of me (With a significantly large boat). I Approached and politely asked if he would be able to launch around my boat, as i am retrieving not launching (this was a launch/retriev ramp). He allowed me to retrieve my boat and this is where is went downhill.

I have my retrieval down to a max 10 minute routine depending on conditions and today was no different. <5 minutes the boat was hooked and half winched on. Slighly off-centre i re-aligned the boat on the trailer and The Jerk then he started abusing me for the time it had taken. I responding telling the guy to have some patience and pointed out I am retreiving whilst dealing with  2 x kids under 4 and there are several other ramps (all avaialble) if he cant wait 2 mins... - He once again provide some verbal abuse.

Such a shame that my kids had to hear it. I also started to wonder that this is probably the same sort of impatient jerk that creates road rage. Prob the same sort of person that doesnt follow catch limits etc... Personally i think this sort of person should not be welcome on our waters.

I am happy this is the only time i have seen this. In the past every single person i have met on the ramp has been the opposite, polite and even lending a hand when needed. Just as i have always helped others.

Two Rock's , Wilbinga starting to look like the Tip at Tamala Park

Went for a fish early this morning and was absolutely appalled at the numbers of beer bottles , camp chairs and general rubbish all the way up the beach. Its not hard to take home what you bring fishing and I know its not all left by fishermen going by the party in the dunes last night , but it just gives the Shires more reasons to close off all these areas.

The little fella was with me and he wants me to take a sack of rubbish home everytime we go , so does anybody know where you can buy the pinch tools for picking up rubbish.
