Flathead tackle
Submitted by Bigfisher on Mon, 2012-11-26 11:30Hi guys,
long time reader and thought i should get involved after taking advantage of all the advice.
I have been targeting flathead in the shallows recently just throwing around hard lures. Just wondering if its worth putting on a heavier trace as a I lost a big fish on the weekend after it engulfed the lure. running 4lb mainline.
thanks in advance

Kimberley Boat Ramps
Submitted by jdavies_99 on Mon, 2012-11-26 10:25Hi Guys,
Just planning a trip out to the Kimberleys in Easter and hoping to get some knowledge.
We are running a 2006 23ft Fibreglass walkaround and planning on spending a few nights abroad amongst the Buccaneer Archipelago.
I understand we can launch from Derby but I was just wondering if there were any other launch options. Getting to the Horizontal falls from Derby is quite a mission so was just wondering if there were any other ramps along the top end and if so what is the condition of the road getting to the ramps.
I was told we could launch from cape levique however it would be a mission getting the boat there.

North Mole Sunday Night
Submitted by Fisher Kid on Mon, 2012-11-26 07:29Went down to the north mole from 6;20-7;40, casting twistys for Bonito and tailor, had two hits, none landed. Saw a smalll whiting landed, and the slimey/scalie/yellowtail baitfish sizes 10cm-20cm max were also around, helped a guy land a 80cm+ blacktip shark, bit through the hooks while i grabbed it by the tail and almost bit me so i dropeed it, went down the cracks and swam away :)
1 guy also has a big run on his 12ft rod, bit through his wire.
other than that just the usual buckets full of undersized whiting, skippy etc.

Hamilton Island
Submitted by Slap on Sun, 2012-11-25 22:38G'Day lads & ladies
I am fortunate enough to have a family trip from NOR Perth, east to Hamilton Island for a week. We will be spending 5 days on board a 50ft Cat w/tender, followed by a couple of days on the island.
Just wondering whether anyone had any experiences regarding fishing amongst the islands? (NB: I have done a forum search & read the material) I am hoping to get some updated information on their particular trip, what to expect & perhaps areas/species to keep an eye out for.
If we don't get any luck onboard the Cat which we skipper, we have organised to board a fishing charter for one of the days we are on the island. The trip itself is not a 'fishing' trip, but a family trip that myself and my brother will take every opportunity to spin around in the tender looking for fish.
Cheers guys.

PE3 rod
Submitted by neville hood on Sun, 2012-11-25 14:43Gday fellas
I am in the market for a good quality rod to complement my arsenal in the pe3 range that can threw lures from 20 gm to 80 gm and can be used land based but also on my 6.2m boat. i am thinking of something in the range of 7 foot 8 to 8 foot 4, and can be matched up with either a sw5000 or a bio6000. i already have a barra flats 8 foot with a c14 4000 and 30 lb tuffline for lures up to 30gm. i was thinking along the lines of a dorado mo83 f or something similar. cheers neville

“It’s going fast,” Pineda said. “We’ve got to fish harder before it’s all gone.” Asked what he would leave to his son, he shrugged: “He’ll have to find something else.”
Pretty piss poor attitude these greedy bastards have

Mullas down deep, what rigs?
Submitted by dkonig82 on Sat, 2012-11-24 19:20Going to have a crack at some mulloway at some deep marks I have.
Jigs will be the first attempt, but failing that will probably resort to some dirty bait. If I were to send down a tailor fillet, what are people's thoughts on a paternoster with a snelled set of 3 to hold the fillet? Or any other suggestions?
Am a newbie to chasing these things and pretty keen for some success this week so any tips appreciated!

Crabbin and trollin for flatties this morn
Submitted by tim-o on Sat, 2012-11-24 16:27Went for a quick sesh at mozzies as the forecast (wasnt so bad afterall grrr) wasnt ideal for a tuna troll on the 3 mile so I opted to drop the nets and try and troll up some flatties. After a drop we set off for a troll and before long Brock claimed my rod when it hooked up. Had a decent little run then surfaced was a 40cm flatty and Brock's first. Went and pulled the pots and ended up with a few bigguns but lots of littlies. The woos didnt want to hold his fish after I educated him of the spikes lol. Attatched a pretty crappy vid

What 4wd to buy?
Submitted by oz74 on Fri, 2012-11-23 20:52Hi all,
looking for any input on experiences with 4wd as I'm in the market for a new car.
I have had a 200 series petrol Landcruiser for the last couple of years and it has been awesome but before I blindly just replace it with another, would be good to hear people suggestions.
It will need at least a 3 tonne towing rating and will tow the boat anywhere from the metro area and up to Coral Bay. Apart from towing the boat, it will just be on-road driving around the metro area.
availability may be a big factor as I'd like to get a car within the next couple of weeks.
cheers

Preston beach
Submitted by trav32 on Fri, 2012-11-23 18:54Just wondering what sort of weather conditions would I need to deploy my kayak off of Preston beach? Do big swells run at this beach? I heard the bouvards reef run close in this spot and so guessing good fish will be in close here?
Cheers!

todays(friday) quick trip
Submitted by fisho-ron on Fri, 2012-11-23 18:01i could not wait any longer, i had to get out and scratch the itch!!
with the weather not looking the best my 2 boys and myself headed out for some fun anyhow and i was right it was sloopy as hell.
it might look ok in the pics, but it was sloppy!! very steep waves hitting the tub spraying water all over us, hard to stand without holding onto something.
we were hoping to get onto some good sambos from the same spot as last time, only small tackers coming up for the first hour and then they slowly started to get bigger.
not the big boys we got last time, but big enough for some fun.
we got a couple of triple hookups which was madness with us ducking and weaving around each other to land them all, then it was my turn to shine with my favorite jig....jm fallings in chrome....this thing was getting 4 hookups to the boys 1.
troy and blake could not belive i was getting smashed instantly on the bottom and they were getting nothing, then i had a biggen decide he wanted my jig more than me, i felt it scrap againts the rocks and bye bye it went.(oceanside better order some more)
we ended up calling it a day early as they wemt off the bite, but we still managed to get 20+ fish, with 3 larger ones lost on the rocks
brought a couple home for my dogs, they love raw fish!!
some pics of the biggest for the day
cheers ron
