Woodman Point ramp and fishing
Submitted by buddharock on Thu, 2012-12-13 18:19Just wondering if anyone had any advice for fishing out of Woodman point? Heading down next week with the family (boys are 5 and 3) and camping, hoping to take the boat and catch a feed of crabs or squid? It is a 14ft, forward steer ali with flat deck but the sounder is rubbish, only give depth and I use the Navionics app on my phone as the gps plotter. General advice/locations obviously, don't need the secret spots... Just thinking of packing as light as possible and taking minimal gear. Thanks!

GME Epirb- is this one any good.
Submitted by Quobbarockhopper on Thu, 2012-12-13 12:38Was reading a couple of posts bout Epirbs with better locating systems etc and it got me thinking about mine... This came with the boat and I figured it was a decent one, but after reading about the differences in GPS between models etc I thought I'd ask...
Mine is a gme 406 with 121 MHz homer... Does this have the good GPS that I've been reading about? It states that it is detected by global satellite system using cospas-sarsat, but is this the better system that is available? I've attached a couple pics.
I know it's an olderish model but if anyone could tell me if I need to upgrade it to something better, it'd be much appreciated
Thanks in advance

Beach fishing - Gutters
Submitted by Griffo84 on Thu, 2012-12-13 11:46G'day everyone,
Can anyone please give me a few tips on how to locate gutters along a sandy beach. I live in Singleton and have fished the beach there plenty of times chasing mulloway with no real luck. Do you walk out waste deep until there is a considerable drop off or do you mainly study how the waves are breaking? Sometimes if its an onshore breeze the water can be quite messy which makes it a little more difficult to suss out what's going on. Also how deep/big does a gutter have to be to take an interest to it?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Ben

Best braid for Barra
Submitted by Braxi on Wed, 2012-12-12 13:44Hi,
I was just wondering what the best braid anyone uses for barra. I currently use 30lb Spiderwire and 30lb Power Pro. I havent had any dramas with those so far but I have just bought a Shimano Stella 4000SW from Oceanside Tackle (thanks heaps for the great deal Oeanside) and want to make sure that I have got a quality braid on it. It will be mostly used for flicking lures and plastics and some occasional trolling. Landed 2 nice barra yesterday up the creek.
Thanks.

Horrocks Beach
Submitted by mnixon on Wed, 2012-12-12 06:51I am heading up to Horrocks Beach for the first time at Christmas and was wondering if anyone could give me a bit advice. I am towing up a 5m ally with the thought of launching it off the beach at Horrocks, is this possible? If not then its off to Port Gregory I suppose. When I get out there what species would I expect to find?

Montebellos ramp options
Submitted by Jimsjams44 on Tue, 2012-12-11 20:59Hi guys,
I know there is already information on this topic but just chasing opinions/experiences of launching from fortescue river and also current condition of the ramp.
We will be going over to the 'bellos in January and will be launching a 26' boston whaler. It will be towed with a truck.
Is a launch from Fortescue river a feasible option? I have also heard of people launching from 40 mile?? Any info appreciated.
If it is not possible we will probably end up launching from Onslow, but to be able to save the 30 odd miles each way (fuel wise) would be a dream.
Cheers,
James

South Coast Marlin
Submitted by Mitchb on Tue, 2012-12-11 20:01G'day,
I have been Game fishing in the Exmouth and Dampier areas for over ten years. I live in Albany and over the last few years have had the urge to get out wide and see if what I could raise from the depths off Albany and Denmark! I am interested to see if anybody else has tried this and if so how did you go? There has been Mackerel, Mahi Mahi and Cobia caught down here for at least the last 3 years could there be a run of Billfish we are missing out on?? Interested to know your thought!!

southwest reef abalone locations
Submitted by gbp on Tue, 2012-12-11 14:37Hi all.
I've got friends visiting from overseas and I would love to take them to catch some abalone down south (Busselton, Margaret River, Augusta etc). Nothing crazy, just off a reef like we do here in Perth during the season.
Is anybody able to share some good/popular spots for this? I'm not after any secret locations or hardcore diving spots, just simple, easy to get to, safe reef abalone.
Thanks in advance!

Coal Mine Beach
Submitted by benb on Tue, 2012-12-11 14:06Hi All
We're off to Coal Mine Beach over Christmas and New years with the Polycraft. Haven't been before and so I've been doing a fair bit of reading through the forums - thanks for the info. Just wondering if anyone can get me started with a few spots fairly close-ish to the caravan park where the kids might be able to catch a few. There'll be 4 kids from the two families and so the attention span is not long.
Thanks
