Favourite jig colours
Submitted by Tandawg on Mon, 2011-01-03 17:59I know that this question is like asking "what is your favourite food", but I need some assistance on some of the more popular demersal jigs and in particular, colours that have served you well.
In particular, the FANKY jigs seem quite attractive to me.

is my roller tip stuffed?
Submitted by my03 on Mon, 2011-01-03 13:57hey guys, never used roller tipped rods before but I've decided to go a stroker with roller tip for some jetty shark work.
the rod in question is a silstar crustal blue stroker, and i strapped my 50w on with 24kg line, and proceeded to tie the line to the pole and harness up to correctly adjust the harness for the upcoming season,
when i was putting drag from the reel, i notices a very unsmooth noise of line going over my roller tip, after a few times the line was way scuffed and eventually busted off. When i inspected the roller, it did seem to roll fine.
so my question is, is the rubbing of the line happening because the angle of the line coming out from the rod is too verticle? if this was to happen in a normal fishing environment where the line would go out at a more horizontal angle, would this be happening?
is this a common occurence when loading up rods with roller tips?
any healp greatly appreciated thanks

Submitted by brenz on Mon, 2011-01-03 12:54so howd we all go over the weekend?
we headed north of lano sat and sunday with the weather being rather average sat we targeted some tailor boating 22 fish (18 released) were average sized 35 ish cm. then sunday was an absolute gem of a morning headed out to the 20 m mark ended up boating 2 baldies and 6 dhuies in under an hour then came in (once again released fish) fish were average size round 6 kg dhuies and 4 kg baldies also droped a 18kg + fish 2 mt from the boat due to my lasieness of not changing a severly chafed leader.

Woodies ramp pain.
Submitted by Ben Derecki on Sun, 2011-01-02 21:28Pretty painful shot from Woodman's ramp last week.
From what we could see the boat was detached from the trailer and reversed down the ramp, until the trailer hit the curb on the side of the ramp and the boat slid off... into one inch of water. After the shock wore off some of the guys got in behind it and did what they could to lift it while one of them grabbed the winch and dragged the sucker back up on to the trailer.
Couldn't see how much damage was done to the leg but I reckon they didn't get out for the rest of the day.

Any Deckies needed?

anyone heading out needing a deckie or 2? will chip in for fuel etc and got all the gear. prefer dermsal/jigging
Demersal jigging/SP combo
Submitted by Tandawg on Sun, 2011-01-02 18:39Hi all, a very Happy New Year to everyone.
I am (up to this point) an uncoverted bait fisherman.
I would really like to broaden my fishing horizon by targetting some of the more popular demersals using jigs and SPs.
Knowing that I will only be doing this type of fishing in less frequency than bait fishing, I am chasing a combo which certainly wont damage the bank.
Is $150-200 too little to ask? Don`t want to sound like a cheap skate, but I cant warrant buying expensive gear for something I won`t do as often.
Probably be spooling with 30lbs max.
Thanks in advance
Chris

rotto fishing help
Submitted by silly on Sun, 2011-01-02 17:57With the weather looking fairly good tomorow i've decided to take the boat out to rotto. I mainly fish inshore around the 3 mile and havent done much fishing around rotto or deep (30m +) for that matter. Which side of the island has the best grounds to target demersal? It is necessary to go out deaper to the 30's + or is fishing close to the island just as productive? Is there a reef system i should try? Mainly after dhu's, queenie's and KG's.
Also was going to pull in to a bay for lunch and a swim/freedive. Which would be the best where i can anchor and freedive for some crays. (out of the sanctuary zones etc)
Appreciate any help
Cheers

Swan River launch sites
Submitted by Anonymous on Sun, 2011-01-02 12:47Hi guys,
Want to take the family down and around the swan river, looking at launching as south as possible tommorrow, coming from Rockingham into the city, on the Kwinina freeway. Any ideas on what the best ramp is to launch at, where there will be parking, and where my car will be safe for the day?
Any must see spots or dangers for boating around the swan/canning rivers and down to Freo?
Any help appreciated..
Thanks...
Dave

Saturday night funnys.
Submitted by cudbfishn on Sun, 2011-01-02 10:25My cousin (David) and I went down to our local beach last night to soak a bait.
There was a dude already fishing so we decided to park up next to him in the gutter.
We rigged up and tossed a few baits out only to land a few undersixed tailor, which went back.
Half an hour later, a large group of at least 3 families pulled up the other side of this dude. We recognised each other from previous fishing trips and they came over and said hello.
A while later David and I watched this dude catch and dispatch an undersized mulloway, this thing was DEFINATELY undersized, no more than 400mm. This got our blood boiling. He soon after caught an undersized tailor. By tis time 2 of his mates and there girlfriends had walked down and joined him.
David and I decided we would try and report him, So I wondered back to the carpark and took pictures of his car and plates. I then walked down to the families the other side of him and we decided to go over and have a friendly word.
"How you going mate?" i said, "caught anything?".
"Yer," he boasted, "got a mulloway and a tailor."
"So you know what they are?" I asked, " so you know that there undersized?!?"
"Yer only a little." he quaffed.
"Wouldnt want to get caught!" we said.
"NA I WONT GET CAUGHT!" he laughed.
As he said this I was about to take my camera out and ask him to hold it up, when out of the corner of my eye I spotted 2 lights coming down the beach. Now I knew they werent 4wds, as there is no access and they are not allowd.
YOU BEAUTY!!!!!!!!!
David and I couldnt stop smiling as the fisheries threw the dead fish back into the water and pulled the book out.
Best fishing day ever!!!!!!!!!!
btw. we didnt catch fuk all.

bream session
Submitted by Markie on Sun, 2011-01-02 09:39Went to a bream spot i use to goto, with my cousin a keen fisho from victoria. Many choppers, bream and a couple small flatties. Between us there was about 50 bream caught mainly around the 25-30 cm mark. Caught two bigger ones at 35 and 37 and lost a monster which took me to the pylons. Still no 40cm bream for me yet(dont fish for them much anyhow) but will keep trying. Sorry no pics had my phone but waste of time usin the piece of rubbish. All were released, good fun.

Surface action in the swan?
Submitted by Dale177 on Sat, 2011-01-01 19:39was down in the swan today around guildford, never seen so much action on the surface in the swan before, i wasnt sure if it was larger fish chasing smaller fish up to the surface or fish hitting insects, i was watching a few closer splashes and i couldn't see any insects around where they were splashing, any one know what this is? i was thinking of going back down with the fly gear tomorrow.

I want to see hurt, friendly hurt but hurt still the same!
Submitted by Oracle on Sat, 2011-01-01 16:50I've got my brother in law over for the week and we've been diving all week but now the wind is stopping all day, I was going to take him for a fish.Problem is I got a bit of the "fishing is a bit boring... not much out there. They are all small" from him. So my plan of attack is really quite simple.
1. Leave about 5.00am Monday.
2. Head to the sound and get a bait tank full of live squid
3. drop it on the heads of a few sambo's
4. kick back with a beer and watch the little girl cry
Just wondering if you guys could let me know if the bigger sambos are still hanging off Rotto? or should I head to the barges off Hillarys?
Cheers

Who's heading out during the glass off? Pingers galore
Submitted by DazSamFishing on Sat, 2011-01-01 12:58With some fine weather approaching (fingers crossed I haven't spoken too soon), who is heading out?
I was speaking to some mates & mentioned I'd give the holiday season a skip due to ramp crowds etc.
However, it's pretty tough not taking advantage of good weather at this time of the year.
I recall allrounder mentioning to keep an eye out for pingers a while back. I was out with another boat (John F) a few weeks back & we had 3 boats come out of no where, stop between us, hit the mark button & get back on the plane.
Mongrels... but how do you prevent that - you can't can you? I don't fish often with a sea anchor, although, John was at the time & I raised the alarm over the radio, but it's not easy to get the sea anchor in within seconds & shoot off.
The oceans a large place. It's like having a picnic in the park. You wouldn't go set your picnic blanket up next to someone & put your arm around their missus would you?
The ocean does belong to everyone, but where's common courtesy these days?
