i love working away while the weathers good and mates send you pics of this sort of thing...
Submitted by Quobbarockhopper on Wed, 2013-04-03 16:49

while i was FIFOing my ass off over the easter long weekend, it really cheers you up when your mates are sending you this sort of stuff... NOT
and before the usual suspects start climbing on their soapboxes, the limit is 8 per person up here and this is 2 sessions of shore free diving over 2 days...
regardless, their still pricks :)

SOM Vs JM 16000 spool
Submitted by D_d_001 on Wed, 2013-04-03 16:26Hi all,
After some opinions of the above as to which is better. construction and drag wise.
I realise the JM has 35kg or drag.....something I only use when targeting the BIG KG whiting ......but seriously is it a better drag system? and if I'm after sails....hence the bigger spool size, then does it affect it running it at a much lower drag than that.
any info or anyone who has used one of these with anything to tell ...much apreciated.
voids the shimano warranty????....if they find out ? ...lol
Also if anyone has one of these to sell PM me.
Cheers

rod length for sp fishing
Submitted by bitten on Wed, 2013-04-03 15:28just wondering what the optimum rod length for soft placcys snapper and dhuie type stuff would be i would imagine around 6'6
is 7'0 getting too long to be comfortable to use
i wanted to do some light line stuff on a bit of a budget as i dont get out on a boat very often how about the daiwa aird combos? im looking at getting the 2500 aird with a 3000 spare spool as it will double when i target the big greenbacks this winter nailed a 6kg tailor on 15lb line last year would like to do it on 8 - 10 lb this year
cheers for your responses guys

Adequate or rather inadequate lighting
Submitted by sunshine on Tue, 2013-04-02 19:28Went out of Friday very early, dark but with good moonlight. Passing through the GI /Carnac channel I could clearly see a boat at anchor with correct anchor light and nav lights illuminated and deliberately ensured I was well south of him only to find a virtually unlit boat directly in my path and also anchored with one tiny red flashing single low intensity led located somewhere low on the hull
What gives, but for the moon and a spotlessly clear windscreen could so easily have slammed into it ...........there are some absolute idiots out there

fisheries booking and the law
Submitted by meglodon on Tue, 2013-04-02 15:49I think this is worth a read by those who take people on their boat who don't have a RFBL, and catch fish when you assume thay have a licence. It's a bit long winded but worth the effor IMO

How close is too close?
Submitted by Webbwah on Tue, 2013-04-02 13:31
Ok so we were out quite a good distace doing some jigging for ambers and sambos. We were the only boat around until they started rocking up. So after some time there were 3-4 boats and even a charter super close, i could have thrown my lure into every boat by hand. Where has the respect and courtisy gone. The charter even circled and backed up within 15- 20 m while we were fishing. All we could say is "ARE U SERIOUS".

Broken (off) tm260
Submitted by Olliej on Tue, 2013-04-02 10:55Somehow i've managed to lose the tm260 off the back of the boat on its third outting out. It was professionally mounted and has appeared to fail where the plastic of the transducer meets the bracket - ill post a pic tonight. I didnt hit anything, but it was quite sloppy on the 20nm steam out.
before i pay the excess to replace im keen to be comfortable that it doesnt happen again. Has anyone heard of this happening before? My other option is to wire the other p66 on the hull into the unit and be done with it.
Also the tm260 was second hand so no warranty recourse there.

Overkill
Submitted by unhurry on Tue, 2013-04-02 08:50It behoves me to make this comment but there are some sorry idiots out there, like the one who had to verbally abuse my 13 year old son who was tending my boat moored onto the finger jetty at the casuarina boat ramp on Sunday whilst I got car to retrieve the boat ( did not take me more than 2 minutes to get trailer into water and a further 1.5 minutes to have boat out and ramp cleared). Yet this tool ( not an impatient idiot cause that implies some sort of reasonability) not only mouthed off at my son but also nudged into the back of my boat to make his point - my son told me once home.
If the owner of boat "overkill" is a forum member I have a pm for you; please contact me.

clutter at speed on new transducer
Submitted by dant on Tue, 2013-04-02 08:04Hi All,
I have just installed a new transducer, at slow speeds it seemed to work ok, but when i reached speeds of 6 knots or over it started to have a snow storm of red pixels.
After a few swear words and playing around - i stumbled across the manual depth setting, i adjusted to the depth i was in - this seemed to work but did not give a strong signal.
My previous transcducer would automatically tune to the depth, do you need to manually tune a new tranducer before it starts to adjust automatically.
sorry again for the questions - but would really appreciate some feedback without having to take it back to the installation company.
Cheers Dan

Stella spool bearing
Submitted by fisharoo on Mon, 2013-04-01 21:55Hi fellas, just wondering if any of you guys own a sw Stella, can you take the drag knob off and look on the top of the spool to see if there is a bearing on the spool?. Went to my brothers house to check out his new 2013 Stella, took off the drag knob on his 5000 and saw a bearing on the spool which the knob sits on.
i thought this was a new thing because I didn't remember my 5000 having one before I sold it. Then I saw his previous 5000sw which he picked up from bcf a couple of months ago also having the same bearing on the spool.
went home checked my 8000 and 20000(both 2008) one local and one jdm, both doesn't have it.
so is it just the 5000 that has the bearing on the spool?
cheers

Good to see
Submitted by Matty22liverpool on Mon, 2013-04-01 19:45I just wanted to say what a breath of fresh air it was at the Hillarys boat ramp this afternoon.
I went to launch my boat this afternoon (for the first time at hillarys) and a nice guy kindly came across to tell me that i was in the wrong lane to launch. Even though the lane did say launch and retrieve i was told that at that time of the day when its a bit busy people will only use it to retrieve. Just thought it was nice of someone to explain that to me rather than have some guy bite my ear off...which i seen before at boat ramps for people not doing whats expected.
As a nice bonus i also caught a load of fish :) Happy days!

Seabird report
Submitted by sea-kem on Mon, 2013-04-01 18:22 Hello all some pics from our outing on good Friday. My oldest boy Rory was rewarded early in the day in 22m with this 6kg speciman.
. Next up was the Baldie for the deckie after he lost a horse halfway up so was duly rewarded with a decent fish. It was getting toward 2pm when I heard Anypuddle on the radio so decided to say g'day. I had caught zip until then so that radio call must have bought me some luck as literally 5 mins my rod took off and I pulled up this PB for me 13kg Dhuie.
This also christened my jigging rod and was the first time I have ever caught a decent fish on braid being an old school mono diehard. Thanks Bunny if you read this. The rod performed oustandingly and it's paired with an 8000 SW Stella.
Day's catch.

Anyone here lost a dive bag with goodies at Peppy Beach?
Submitted by craig scott on Mon, 2013-04-01 16:02My kids found a dive bag yesterday afternoon down at the Peppy Cut area.
It has some rather nice things with it, I'm sure whoever lost it would be real happy to have back.
Looks like Busso people maybe lost it.
Please ask around.
Cheers, Craig.
