Coral Bay L/B Fishing
Submitted by EricBananaMan on Fri, 2013-12-13 15:16Taking the wife and kids to Coral Bay next week. Besides Maud's landing for tigers, can anyone suggest any land based fishing spots for 6 and 7 year olds close to town and would lures or bait be best? I'm taking the 4x4 so access to spots shouldn't be a problem. The thought of leaving the family on land and taking a charter has crossed my mind but I may not make it out of the town alive. Cheers in advance for your thoughts.

Snag it? Tag it!
Submitted by MattG on Fri, 2013-12-13 14:06
Recfishwest is launching a new safety initiative for recreational boat-based fishers targeting demersal fish species such as pink snapper and dhufish. The Snag it? Tag it! campaign will raise awareness around the dangers of snagging on commercial rock lobster pot gear to deckhands operating the equipment.
As we head into summer weather and with the demersal fishing closure being lifted on December 16, recreational fishers will be heading out to their favourite fishing spots all along the West Australian coast to try their luck.
To help recreational and commercial fishers operate safely this summer, Recfishwest will introduce the new Snag it? Tag it! safety initiative.
It will allow recreational fishers who accidently snag a rock lobster pot, to attach a “danger tag” which alerts commercial fishers to the fact that there may be sinkers and hooks attached to the pot or rope.
This will mean that deckhands on commercial fishing vessels face less risk of injury when pulling in pots at high speed. Recreational fishers are being asked to attach the tags to the top of the rock lobster pot rope, above the float, so that they are clearly visible.
Recfishwest Chief Executive Officer Dr Andrew Rowland said the danger tags were an important safety initiative.
“We want to keep all water users safe and these danger tags will provide an early warning system for commercial rock lobster fishers pulling in their pots,” he said.
“It also fosters co-operation between recreational and commercial fishers.”
The Western Rock Lobster Council has assisted in this initiative and will be educating commercial fishers to be on the look-out for the danger tags, so that they can operate winches at a safe speed.
Western Rock Lobster Council Chairman Basil Lenzo said: “It’s very important that recreational fishers work together with commercial fishers so that the safety of everyone on the water is ensured.
“We are very happy to be involved with Recfishwest in this new initiative.”
The danger tags will be available at metropolitan tackle stores. Recfishwest will also hand them out at boat ramps in the first week of the demersal closure lifting.

Having someone else dive for Crays?
Submitted by Tradewind on Fri, 2013-12-13 10:28I haven't gotten pots organised yet which is a shame seeing as this weekend looks fantastic
Although if someone has Jarrah or Pine second hand pots at a reasonable price i'd be interested in buying today/tonight
My question is if I take someone else out on my boat and they dive for the crays (To split between us) is that a grey area if we both take 8 (Both having licences)
Just not ready to freedive myself until I arrange a sharkshield

Soft plastics rod - G.Loomis GL2 or Shimano Mexican Raider 2 soft plastics
Submitted by Karak on Fri, 2013-12-13 00:56Hi all,
I am a fan of soft plastics and would want to get a new rod for soft plastics?
how would you rate Raider to GL2?

How does a shimano Rarenium or Stradic CI fair?

Kalbarri lure choices
Submitted by Uluabuster on Thu, 2013-12-12 08:59Hi All,
Will be heading to Kalbarri for the first time and wish to fish on artificials only.
Can someone recommend some lures to use at Kalbarri -either on surf or muchinson river ? I don't care what I can catch (except blowies of course) so long as they are caught on artificial. We do have a small boat which will be used in the river.
My search on the forum reveals that possible fish caught includes the following:
- Bream
- Finger mark snapper
- mulloway
- tailor
- giant herring
I did a search and realise that lots of mulloways are caught on bait. Can they be caught on lures in the surf ? If so, what type or genre of lure ?
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
P/s: are blowies an issue over there ?
Thanks
Uluabuster

Recent rod build
Submitted by barneyboy on Wed, 2013-12-11 10:48Here is a recent rebuild I did for a guy.
The pattern is a St Johns cross with a slight variation.
Underbound and double overbound Fuji BLRLG,s on a shortened Sabre 6455.
All of the existing components were used and should be good for the next 10 or 15 years.
The pics aren't that good. Rods are so hard to get good pics of. If anyone has any tips for this they would like to share, I am all ears.

quick report
Submitted by tangles on Tue, 2013-12-10 20:59So after sitting in the house all day sweating looked out the window around 4.30pm and saw the wind had gone right round back to the east. I smelt fish in the air. Quick packup n over to frustrations by 6.30pm. Tailor were pests as usual but third cast got swallowed by a nice mulla. Had a bit of a chuckle while bringing it in as there was no one round and it was perfect conditions. Moon was just coming to above so knew it was going to be a great night. Couple more pesky tailor then off goes the line again. Second mulla on the 7th cast. Bit more of a laugh. Packed up and was home by 8.30! sorry no photos. phone has packed it in. One went est 10kg and the other est 4kg. Could have stayed to do some catch and release but got my two and back home. these conditions are perfect atm. Been some macks caught down at wagoe, Ted from wagoe got a nice tuna on a balloon and then dropped a line over the reef and pulled in a nice mulla. The whites are about to take off here with easterlies all week and no swell they are about to fire up! anyway just a quick report hopefully back over tmw for another fish!

For those Opposed to the culling of Great Whites and other large sharks
Submitted by Buz on Tue, 2013-12-10 20:08For those Opposed to the culling of Great Whites and other large sharks.
Thought I would start a thread for all those who are opposed to the WA government announcement to cull Great Whites and other large sharks that venture into the Shark Kill Zones or 'Marine Monitored Areas'.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE if you are not opposed to the cull and support the cull PLEASE direct your comments to the other threads which are overflowing with support for the cull.
http://fishwrecked.com/forum/new-measures-combat-wa-shark-risks
http://fishwrecked.com/forum/shark-culling
I would like this to be a thread where those who are opposed to the cull can talk and discuss the issue in a positive way of what can be done to oppose the cull or reverse the decision. Not just become another rant and berating fest.
For those who do support the cull I respect your views and your opinions and understand you are equally passionate about the cull happening as I am against it. Hence why I have steered clear of posting anything on the other two threads, or getting into arguments or name calling. You have the right to voice your view and I respect that. I ask that you please respect those of us who do oppose it and let us discuss it in our way.
For those of you who do oppose it, there is a lot of action already taking place. A lot through online petitions, online letters to politicians, rallies planned etc. A lot of it has been through Facebook so you'll have to excuse that for all those who don't use Facebook. But I will post up as many links as I can with information relating to the opposition to the cull.
Thankyou to all.
Just for the record, I am against an indiscriminate cull, but am not against the destruction of a 100% identified shark responsible for a fatality.
And yes I have had a family member taken by a Great White. David in Hopetoun in 1995. I fish, I snorkel, I spearfish, I Scuba dive recreationally and for work, I bodyboard, I try to surf and I like swimming in the ocean.
