Fishing destination help/suggestions please
Submitted by Markie on Tue, 2011-11-15 07:20Next year jan/feb some time im planning to go camping and fishing for 5/6 days but am undecided on where i should. Will be two guys and two girls and i would like it to be a place where fishing is pretty decent and also weather (likely to be ok). Am thinking a place where i could hire a boat for few days also. Would it be better to head south somwhere or somewhere north like kalbarri etc etc? Anby suggestions on this would be much appreciatedd.

Crabcatcher
Submitted by davidbland50 on Mon, 2011-11-14 20:54When I was a teenager back in the seventies, my father had a boat in Brisbane. We fished a lot in the waters behind South and North Stradbroke where the fish were ample and the crabs were large and plentiful.
We acquired from a friend of ours, a number of crabpots that were more cages. They had a square wire net base that was, I would say, 30cm square, with four triangular sides that were hinged. Each of the apexes of the triangles had string tied to them and these strings were bound together after a s/s ring. The idea was that you put a piece of bait in the middle of the base, dropped over the side of the boat, and when it hit the bottom, the triangular sides opened up and all of them lay flat on the sea bed. You came back a while later, pulled the rope up and the sides closed up and created a prism to trap the unwary crab inside.
I have never seen them since and wonder if anyone else remembers them, or whether or not, anybody knows of a shop now selling them.

Yanchep Lagoon
Submitted by Graeme76 on Mon, 2011-11-14 14:26Can anyone tell me if Yanchep Lagoon is fishing well at the moment as well as what rigs & tactics will serve me best up there? I've never fished there before & I'm only a novice to most beach fishing (except sharks) so I'm looking to make things a bit easier on myself.
Thanks for any replies.

New Boat Purchase (Importing V's Local)
Submitted by doublej on Sun, 2011-11-13 16:47Will start at the beginning.
I have been looking to upgrade my boat and had jumped on the importing bandwagon.
8 months had passed and I had got no closer to a purchase than when I started.
I was looking at the Walkarounds (Seaswirls, Trophy’s, Proline, Grady Whites & Whalers)
I had my heart set on a 2301 or a 2601 Seaswirl Striper.
Anyway after countless hours on the net and dealing with Brokers over there It all seemed to be a waste of time and I was getting nowhere. (Nearly 1 year later)
Getting p*ssed of with the dealings over there I started to look around in the local classifieds and Boatsonline etc etc etc.
I did a search on this site’s “For Sale Section” and spotted something I liked.
I ended going around and having a look (and a few beers with the previous owner Rick)
Liked what I saw and organised a seatrial. All went well and 2 weeks later I was the proud owner of my new “Leeder 240 Tomcat”.
So firstly I would like to thank Rick (Great guy and loves a beer) for selling me the boat and also “This site” for finding the boat.
In the end the boat was about 15kms from where I live so I guess it pay’s to look in your own backyard first (Would of saved me 100’s of hours of searching and a few headaches as well.
Can’t wait to get some blood on the deck and some hours on the motor.
Hopefully see some of you out there soon.
Cheers……………….

I've got it on a Finnor 30lb, but I feel its a bit bulky! Ill use it for jigging, and general bottom demersals. loaded it with 25lb (light but I like it that way), around 350yrds.

L'CRUISER TDV8 vs RANGE ROVER SPORT TDV8 - FUEL CONSUMPTION
Submitted by Septimus on Fri, 2011-11-11 21:21Hello All,
Not sure where to post this on the website, but, can owners of either of the above vehicles help me out with respective (real life vs bullshit from the dealers) fuel consumption figures?
I'm currently using an F250 to tow a boat weighing just under 3.5t and getting a bit tired of driving the F250 around the City - absolutely awesome vehicle BUT just too big for a regular 'car' around town (IMO).
So looking for another option that might be easier to use as an everyday drive AND tow the boat on trips out of town - narrowed it down to the above two vehicles.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

computer based sounder cruzpro
Submitted by meglodon on Fri, 2011-11-11 18:30Hi all
is there anyone out there who is using a computer based sounder. I'm using a cruzpro system on a toshiba laptop and it has been good up to now however I plan on going deep this summer and was wondering if anyone else had used one at deapths greater than 150m If anyone has any tips about using sounders to search the deeps I would be most gratfull.Just a note on the side I can't sing the praises about toshiba laptops enough.
Went to Exmouth a couple of years back went out in the gulf when it would have been smarter to say in the caravan short choppy seas (we are talking about a laptop on a 6m quinnie here wave came over the bow hit the windscreen splashed over that and dumped a lot of water on the keyboard and killed the laptop right there and then. Got back to the caravan thought what the hell, turned laptop upside down and proceeded to wash the salt water out with the hot water that was in the hose that had been in the sun.Left laptop upside down for 2 days plugged it in gave it a kick in the guts (applied power) and hey presto on it went and has not missed a beat since. It has been dropped onto the deck bumped very hard when the boat has fallen out of waves etc. I run nav programme Tsunarmi navigator (great) and cruzpro pcff80 a click of one key and it switches between programmes. So I have a sounder with a 12" screen at a fraction of the cost of the large pro sounders, how does it stand up against the big furunos lowrances etc, short answer don't know haven had the unit alongside another boat to check out what each can see.
Out riggers
Submitted by just dhu it on Fri, 2011-11-11 16:12I am looking at buying some 12 ft out -rigger poles and bases for my rig and wonder what bases most guys use , i have looked at the relax bases with the spine slot for various positions but have been told that you can catch your fingers in them whilst changing out on the water , also these dont appear to give alot of variation on pole positioning , the two others ,one has two sections that can be adjusted for angle out and pole position up and down similar to a radio antennae base in stainless but dont look very strong , the third only gives flat or 45 degree angle out and is abit more solid constuction, sorry no names or brands on the other two

Submitted by Jimsjams44 on Fri, 2011-11-11 13:42I'm planning on getting one of these to use with 50lb braid and mono topshot for medium game fishing and the occasional deep drop fishing, has anyone got one of these/used one? Would this be a good option for the fishing I plan to do?
Any feedback would be handy before I go ahead and commit to it.
