sounder questions?

so if ive been  reading right will any aftermarket transducer match up with any sounder?

i have a hds 5 but im using the trans ducer from my old lms527c  it works  ok but  question is how much better will a aftermarket transducer made the sounder and in what way?

would it be better to get a better transducer or get the lowrace structure scan?

most of my boating is done below 80meters if that helps

Need a light rod for Exxy? Check out the Lemax SlimMax...

It's a bit close to the event but I thought I'd put it up anyway. If you're looking for a light lure rod for the Exmouth Invitational, or if you just want a plastics rod for pinkies as we start moving towards the season check out the Lemax SlimMax SC.

The rods come in a range of sizes but the 6'6" and 7'0" rods are great plastics or light sportfishing rods and have accounted for some unbelievable fish locally, in the northern parts of WA and overseas. There's some YouTube footage at the bottom of the text if you want to see them in action and get a feel of what they're capable of.

The rods come with Lemax' custom silicon carbide guides, have a Fuji reel seat, they look great and they're competitively priced. If you're a Daiwa Sol user the gold and blue deco makes it a great match. There are a couple of baitcasting options which I think supplies are running low of at the moment but if you want one down the track then talk to any of the stockists and they'll be able to sort something out for you.

These are great rods that won't let you down.

Essential lures for Bream

Guys, I have always fished for Bream with bait but now want to start using lures. I have used them before for bream but not really put much effort in to it. I want to change that.

If you had to choose 6 to start with what would they be and why?

I know Brenz will automatically say the Zipbait Khamsin that he seems to be doing so well with but what else?

I will be dinghy based if that makes any difference.

Cheers

Tantabiddi Ramp - Hows it been?

Just chasing some recent info on the tantabiddi ramp, i have never seen it before and have never used it either obviously. I have searched on here and people are talking about bog mats on the low etc.

Tides are on the spring side of the scale and with the comp having the high in the middle of the days there is going to be lots of launches and retieves for all around the low tide marks so for those locals and those already there is there certian times to avoid the ramp. I'm hoping to get one very early start in and i'm considering just using Bundegi for this.

I have a Mitsubishi Pajero 08 model and my boat is a 5.3m Polycraft which is 1.6 tonnes BMT. Bog mats have been ordered and will hopefully be here in time.

Cheers guys

line class for exxy

Just need some advice, I have a tld25 spooled with about 500m of 10kg that i use for sailies around dampier. I am not sure if I should re-spool with a heavier line class (15 or 24) or if I will get away with the 10 for exxy next week? going to be using it for trawling for blacks ect. Cheers

TASMANIAN SCIENTIST DISCOVERS NEW JELLYFISH WITH SEX ORGANS ON ITS HEAD
Hobart CSIRO scientists are astounded by the discovery of the city
of gonads jellyfish.

Tasmanian scientists have discovered a new species of jellyfish in Hobart's River Derwent.

The species is only a few millimetres wide and scientists say it looks like a flying saucer with a cluster of gonads, or sex organs, on top.

Scientists discovered the jellyfish while surveying the waters outside the CSIRO in Hobart.

The new species has been named CSIRO Medusa medeopolis, meaning "jellyfish from CSIRO" and "city of gonads".

Launceston jellyfish expert Lisa-Ann Gershwin says it is an astounding discovery.

"It's absolutely different from every other jellyfish that's ever been known," Dr Gershwin said.

"So we not only put it into its own new species and its own new genus, but it's actually a brand new family."

Dr Gershwin says the find is also tremendously exciting.

"Quite possibly and quite humbly the greatest discovery of my career, ever. I mean I'll be lucky if I ever get a discovery even half as incredible again," she said.

"You know any mum with a new bub is always excited, but when you have a whole family of new bubs I think it's triply exciting."

Dr Gershwin says the jellyfish is harmless to humans.

Trip has been booked to new guinea for chrissy this year to catch up with the olds,  were booked into all the usual resorts arround kavieng but also tufi dive resort which has black bass fishing down the Musa River.  Has anyone got any ideas on what lures gear etc to take, or any good articles in fishing mags I can track down.  So far im thinking it's a bit like red bass fishing just in creeks and with baitcasters which i have done a fair bit off.

Ive got so far

calcutta 400 30 pound live fibre 8-10 kilo rod

shimano curado 200e7 20lb 6-10 kilo t-curve

twin power 6000 30lb  lucanus jig spin pe2-3

Sambo Jigging

Given all the recent debate on release methods .

What happens to all the sambo's that are being caught for sport in deep water  ?

Are people taking the time and effort to release these on a release weight ?

hows this..... updated with pic

hows this.....

my brother and my old man are away down south on holiday with wives, kids, etc. the old man took down his 19ft ocean whaler, and they went out fishing yesterday. bro reckons they would have done 30 odd mile scratchin around looking for fish/ground, and had caught nothing all day, except for a few shit fish.

with nothing in the esky (fish wise), around 3 oclock decided to call it a day, and just go in and get some squid so as not to come home empty handed. the squid ground was broken weed/ sand patches as per usual, and the old man thought it looked ok for a king george or 2, so threw down a small baited hook, on 4kg line.

15 minutes later, in 6m of water, 1.25kms from the boat ramp they launched at, he boated a 13kg dhuie.

Documentary about Blowfish

Hi all,

Never posted on here before but here goes. My name is Rob and I'm studying film at uni and we're making a documentary about blowfish in the Swan River with the angle of how annoying they are and what a pest they are to our favourite fishing spots. I am looking for anybody, male or female, preferrably a little older and with lots of character who is willing to give up there time for a couple of hours so we can interview them about their experiences with catching blowfish. Just answering simple questions like do you think the blowfish in the Swan River are out of control? What do you think should be done? What do you do when you catch a blowfish? pretty simple stuff. Also if you are older or know someone who older who fished the Swan River 'back in the day', and could tell a few stories about what it used to be like fishing the river before the blowies took over that would be golden. Let me know if you are interested in sharing some stories on camera and helping out a fellow fisherman. Cheers!

Rob

P.S. Filming would be low key, only a crew of 4 people, probably down the river somewhere with a nice background. Nothing too intimidating.

Release of dead fish

Of all of the issues discussed recently I was suprised that no one has addressed the need for some common sense concerning release of fish that clearly not going to make it.

The last few trips out every blackarse I pulled up from 110 metres was done for even one that was doubled up with a pinkie that had no effects of trauma.  Luckily I caught them before we reached our bag limit.

I have given this some thought and for me it makes sense to have an option of bringing in fish that are severely injured or dead and contacting fisheries to pick them up and give to a charity.

My last question is;  is this a common problem with blackarse in deep water??.....by the way they weren't babies and were well over the limit.

I have always used my release weight since moving here from the states 2.5 years ago.  Good on the bloke who came up with the idea!

Tips on prawning in the river

Would like to try prawning in the river am I right to assume that the right time to go is when the tide is high and just turned as soon as it gets dark?

On the attched tide pic is 7.04pm a good time to prawn? is the tide running fast enough or wait until there is a bigger high tide?

any tips appreiceated

what is it worth $

i know there is a lot of ifs and buts about this question, just after a genaral guide.

a mate is looking at a 1999 northshore 6.5 mtr with a 1999 200 2 stroke yammy.

the whole thing is in poor to very average cond including boat, motor and trailer.(380 hrs)

they are still licenced but do req work.

rough run down...paint is badly faded, gelcoat is a bit rough to feel , few cracks in gelcoat, motor badly faded but dose seem to run ok, clears and canopy need to be replaced, interior is worn but not ripped, trailer is ok apart from the brakes.

the boat has not been in the water for a couple of years at least.

a couple of better points, it dose have a new s/steel tank, flush mount gps/sounder, cd, 27meg radio, digatal epirb, good jackets, deck wash, live wells in the rear, kill tanks in the floor, drive on trailer, etc etc

preety much all the standard equipment that they come with (if you know the boat)

just after a rough idea what it is worth,

as is or in top cond?

i have my own thoughts but i dont want to influence any one

cheers

exmouth/karratha options

Hi everyone,

I was hoping to get a bit of info for our upcoming trip to Exmouth and Karratha this June. We should have a couple of weeks in both areas but im unsure where to situate ourselves when we're there as we have never been there. We will be fishing out of a 5 metre console.

In Exmouth, for fishing destinations and launching is it inconvenient to stay in the national park? are u better off staying closer to town? We would prefer to camp if we could.

And same goes for Karratha/dampier, i hear the caravan parks get pricy up there, where would be some convenient locations in these areas to be central to a variety of fishing and launching options without doing to many km's?

I know sometimes u cant have everything in the one place but some info prior to getting there would be great! If anyone has been in these areas and i know these spots have been talked about lots on this site, but for a new comer it would be much appreciated,

cheers

Diawa squiding rods

hey all.

well i think theses rods have been around for a while but they look great for squidding.

the Emeraldas and the E-gee rods have no guide the line just runs up the middle of the blank.

this is the link for the E-gee rod http://www.daiwafishing.com.au/daiwa.cfm?page=rods&rods=lighttackle&product=egeerods

and this is the link for the emeraldas http://www.daiwafishing.com.au/daiwa.cfm?page=rods&rods=lighttackle&product=emeraldasrods

so wat im asking is dose anyone use them?

dose any one know how much they cost?

and who sells them?

they look the goods and for a couple of videos ive seen from them they look good.

cheers danno
