Pictures of todays catch
Submitted by Lucky Last Cast on Wed, 2013-02-20 16:45Wow. What an awesome day it was out on the water today.
They predicted thunder storms today sometime and with a few claps of thunder heard last night in the distance we where not sure if we were going to go out in the thunder today.
However the thunder stayed away and it was a beautiful day fishing.
On arrival our customers where given a cooked breakfast which they ate with gust.
Of the customers that came out not one of them got sea sick today even tho they told us they probably would, which meant we had to go back to our usual plan of attack and use normal burly!
Then we cruized to our first spot and got a few lines wet. Wow it was on. Hook ups left right and centre.
The boys boated out by 10-00
All in all what a aweome bunch of people on the boat today, who kept the laughs coming.
Don't forget we have a free competition running on our facebook page too!

We shot out to a well known sambo patch dropping my shimano wirl wig jig down and retreving quite awkwardley, second time dropping it back down retrieving, slam big hit half way up! Calling a sambo and couldnt believe it actually worked! To my suprise a very healthy shark mackeral. Totally hooked on jigs now....

Priceless !!
Submitted by cobia15 on Mon, 2013-02-18 10:34So me and the boy spend two days arround Kalbarri throwing everything but the kitchen sink trying to get some greenback action, with a couple of hours left all we had to show for it was one 50cm taylor and a shitload of mixed bait pickers. Thats when the viper bent over and the braid started peeling off the 3000 legalis, finaly a decent fish. 10 minutes later my 5kilo pinkie magically morphed into a huge stinking buff bream. Sat down and had a smoke and thought no fish.....but two days fishing with my boy... Priceless.

LB Sambo
Submitted by Formerathlete on Sun, 2013-02-17 19:41I wish it was me bragging about this capture but I'm posting this on behalf of another angler and with his permission.
We were slowly driving along Preston Beach mid Sunday morning after an overnight fish and we were checking out how people were going as we cruised. We came across a guy who was gesturing that he was hooked into something big. After stopping to give some encouragement and help if needed Adam said he was feeling huge head shakes from the fish which was peeling off line at a rapid rate. He called it as a bronzie... wrong!
Adam managed to turn the creature and skillfully worked it back towards the shore in between shorter runs. 200m or so down the beach the fish surfaced in the wash. At first it looked like a shark but as we got closer the outline of a hulking Samson Fish could be seen in the clear water. Figuring the sambo would be released I threw the long gaff back on to the beach as Adam washed the fish onto the sand with no help needed.
It went 143cm and bottommed out his 22kg scales.
Fantastic to see a young bloke enjoying the beach with his young family and getting the rewards of long hours fishing.
Outstanding beach capture Adam. Well done mate!

The New Boat + Saturdays Catch 16/2/13
Submitted by Grooveepants on Sun, 2013-02-17 16:20After giving the wife the sh!ts spending all my time on the internet staring at boats in the USA I finally decided to take the plunge and buy one. My deckie and I went halves and after months of looking at Seaswirls and Polars decided to go against the wifes one condition (it must have a cabin) and get a Centre Console.
These boats are used in Tournament fishing in the States and are similar to Contenders, Whitewaters, SeaVees, etc in build, design and layout. She's been out 3 times and so far we are pleased with how she handles. Also doesn't use that much more fuel than my old 5.6m Quintrex with Honda 90hp.
Boat details
Boat length 25'
Boat length overall (excluding motor): 27'
Deadrise 24.5 degrees
Beam 249cm
Fuel 681 litres
Water 132 litres
Weight:
- Boat with engine (empty) 1723kg
- Boat with trailer (empty) 2383kg
- Boat on trailer with full fuel/water tank 2999kg - based on 1lt of water = 1kg and 1lt of fuel = 0.711kg

Wyndham Barra
Submitted by damo6230 on Sun, 2013-02-17 15:46Been really hot with little rain here in KNX so the Lower Ord has been fishing slow.
Alternately we have been hitting a few locals creeks in Wyndham.
Still stinking hot but at least the Barra have been obliging.
Once we found the honey hole it was all action stations
Keen to engulf the whole classic
We were casting deep diving lures over a mud bank and giving a couple of quick cranks to get the lure to hit the bottom and then pause the lure.....
seconds later the Barra would engulf them
Plastics worked well and the mongrels accounted for plenty of fish but was mainly slowly bouncing them down the bank and then slowly roll them along the bottom.
Unlike the last trip we got all the Barra on the bottom, no shallow runing lure was touched.
Probably a good 20 plus fish in the boat in a few hours, biggest going 80.
Trip before that was simply tie up on the wood and drop the Trans am down, jig and bull the Barra and Fingermark out, we have pulled plenty of fish jigging!

Dunsborough Dhuies, again sorry lads
Submitted by Lamby on Sat, 2013-02-16 20:11A good mate of mine that has never really fished has been hounding me for ages to take him out, put the poor bastard off for a while & the wind hasn't really played ball. However after numerous mutterings & opening my deep freezer to point out he would like some of those fillets in his own we managed to bite the bullet & get out, he also got his old boy in on the action whom has a fair bit of yachtie experience which played out well today with the winds. Typical South West weather had me flogging through the bay at 35knots & then screaming to a halt & doing a 10 to 15 punch getting to the grounds, was an experience for my mate to see how wild it can get with a bit of swell floating around. Dropped some skirts out the back considering the travel speed but no joy, we pulled up to the marks & I got the boys sorted with bait. Straightened a few gama's the other week out with Seaquest so I called in in to DOS & changed over to Owner's which proved to be a wise move. First drift & Drewski landed his first Dhu Banger & ya couldn't wipe the smile off his dial, we also landed dhu's which released well (bait & jig) Next drift was on another lump close by & this baby was showing some serious goods, old mate cleaned up on this dhu banger which measured 105cm & pulled some serious string, I landed a nice one on a fcl labo at the same time which normally would have been dispatched but next to this one it was a no brainer. Headed off to tackle the dolly's we hooked into last week, chucked out a few richter dorado's which the YTK were all over & kept the boys grinning but the mahi were shy. Had them jumping close by with what looked to be a serious predator up their clacker which may have shut them down so sent out a soft oscar in those green / yellow colours but no joy. Wind then started to turn from the S into a nasty SW so belted the phuck outta there! The boys just dropped off some YTK carpaccio, sashimi & sushi which is going down an absolute treat. Cheers, Lamby

Metro pink pb
Submitted by choorles on Thu, 2013-02-14 14:20Had to make good use of yesterday's conditions, so committed early to be out there before sunrise. Sounded some good ground with fish on it and set the burley trail. Didnt get any action for around an hour so dropped jig head size down to 1/2oz with a zman placcie and chucked it out the back . Got slammed about half way down and started peeling off the 10lb braid on my 4000stradic ! Had 2-3 more solid runs before I could get a crank in then slowly started working it back to the boat. Finally got it close for a net - my pb pinkie - went 85cm about double the size of any metro pinkie I've got!
Few snaps and released well - didnt get anything else for the rest of the morning but this was definitely worth the early start :)

Dhuie on plastic
Submitted by spook on Thu, 2013-02-14 05:22Hey guys, headed out off Ocean Reef yesterday in some pretty good conditions as you can
see in the photo. Caught this guy in 40m on the 8' Zman in baby bass, he went 15 kg and put
up a great fight on my Eupro salty fighter 10-20lb rod and biomaster 4000 combo. We ended
up looking another big fish after this one and then headed back in while it was still glass very
satisfied.

Dunsborough Cape Nat, an epic 11/2/13
Submitted by Lamby on Tue, 2013-02-12 17:23What a cracker of a day! I could punch in a hole heap of dribble (as usual) to describe this session but even then I am unsure we would encompass the mayhem that Cape Nat delivered!
Gentleman's hours we met at Doaky's & got sorted with some bait collection, taking our time as the easterlies ruled any opportunity of getting wide. 3 hooks meant a challenge of a triple header (landed) with the ravenous hezza's for our bait out wide & some Exmouth trip donations, with a few hookups not disappointing. Then we managed to get wide....searching..... & then Pedro hit the scoreboard nicely
The tags got some nice specimens for release & some go pro footage to boot of how quick we do this on deck with a team effort. Should be some sweet underwater footage of their descent without weight, yes I will pull my finger out & get it sorted. Dave from Outdoor Sportz then racks this baby up on jiggy jig (also on footage)
Dhuie popped on the mat, details called & released hopefully for a data return later on
Dhuie for release by Seaquest
Freaking hooter of a blackarse caught in the 100 plus. (Will submit that one in Ron)
We had a hectic time out deep with some pinky's & a cracking pigfish that wasn't a friend of barotrauma so got a slurry sleep. However the day wasn't over as the call was made after hitting up tuna schools to hit up Dunsborough's only seasonal pelagic hotspot for some light tackle mayhem (could do with some FADS Jamie, wink wink) aaaaand.... bingo legs eleven!
Poor Dave let slip DOS had been delivered some sweet new candy for this very moment, so we raided his tackle bag. YTK everywhere... and Dolly's baby!!!
This pup had me doing a few laps on the breamstick
Yah we know that you get them in Perth but give us our moment in the warm current sun! Kill shot from the day out, not for everyone but those that are vocal fisheries mathematicians there was four onboard
Cheers lads

New dash layout for new boat
Submitted by Grooveepants on Tue, 2013-02-05 21:31Just bought a new boat (I'll post pics once I have some decent ones) but thought I'd post some pics of the new dash layout. The HDS12 Touch is on the dash and the HDS10 is mounted under the T-Top. The plan is to have GPS, Engine Readout and Radar on the HDS10 and Sounder and Structure Scan on the HDS12.

Finally a toothy monster other than a bronzie.
Submitted by Chris fish on Mon, 2013-02-04 21:56Our weekend away managed a lot of first for us both diving and shark fishing. We managed to get 2 very nice nurse sharks in. Few photos where taken and off they went again. Was hoping for a big mako or hammerhead because of how deep the water was where we dropped our baits but ah we'll another species off the list but not a shark I want to catch again, they are lazy don't fight much at all and obviously being protected not something you want to be playing around with at all. Both big females swam off strongly and didn't seem worried about the catch and release.

A few fish lately
Submitted by beau on Mon, 2013-02-04 18:03Heres a couple fish we've caught on my week of r&r... Drove down to Mandurah for a whiting pop on the flats but as we drove up the shore line I realised it wasnt going to be a great day with the water line 10m further out than the last time I fished the area being a dead low tide. After jagging a few mullet from a huge school and a couple small whiting I decided to a move to the coast was in order. Walked out onto the reef around midmorning and cleaned up on tailor up to 60cms catching 8 or 9 in around an hour, the maria bullchop catching all the fish. Meanwhile my brother fished the inside of the reef and caught this stonker 38cm yellowfin on the surface.
Friday morning Cody and I took the boat out and the plan was to catch some herring at Carnac then push on to the ffb and float out the herring for a chance at a mackie or ytk. The easterly was fresh as we motored out to the islands, with Cody dropping 3 herring on waxwing at the first reef we stopped at. The wind really whipped up to 20knts+ so we stayed around the island exploring as we had never fished there before. Ended up finding a few tailor hidey holes and the sizes were great with fish up to 58cms hitting the waxwing and bullchop on the surface.
Saturday morning I took dad and Cody out for a shallow inshore bash 10mins from the ramp. First drift Dad manages a just undersize pink.
I then spot 3 or 4 birds working an area a couple hundred metres away, and when I saw a solid fish clear the surface I yelled out LINES UP, TUNA! Fish are still breaking the surface as I motor towards them and I make sure to kill the engine a fair way upwind making sure I dont spook them. I punch out a bullchop while Cody casts out a stickbait he bought the day before. Every 15 seconds or so a fish breaks the surface in between 2 cray floats 30m apart. I called them for longtail as a couple were pushing a metre long. As we drift into casting range Codys sickie gets wholloped in a surface explosion and his 8lb starts burning off the 2500ci4. The fight is short lived as we suspect the tail might have nicked the mainline. The fish seem to have spooked so shot back over to the reef hoping for a bigger pink. Nothing was hitting the plastics and baits on the bottom and the "tuna" were back on the boil around the cray pots again so I rigged up some xmas tree skirts and trolled towards the fish. I think it was on our second pass Dad yells and I turn from the wheel to see an explosion on the surface, then another one and Dads on big time. Cody and I scramble to get the other lines in as the fish screams for the fad (cray rope), by the time we start chasing the fish down it seems we're too late and we're tangled around the rope.
Finally get the line free and seeing as though the rod was in my hands I had a go at reeling the fish in ha ha. As we got colour I hand the rod back to dad and I'm calling it a massive "tuna" until it breaks the surface then I realise its a mack! My heart immediately sank as I noticed the shimmering green colour, ohwell, a mack is a mack but!
Heres a pretty cool shot from Codys Gopro3 mum and I bought him for chrissy..
We had a couple more strikes over the morning but none of the hooks stuck and we left them still jumping at midday. Went back first thing yesterday with some trolling minnows to find the cray pots had been pulled and removed and the fish had gone, bugger.. Cheers Beau
