Dhufish 25/8/12
Submitted by Vinesh87 on Sun, 2012-08-26 10:39I have been working hard on finding spots and new ground, Been doing fairly well with some pinks and dhus and i was just saying i want to find the ground where i go 'Wow see those fish and then catch them'
Me and hlokk headed out from woodies at 8am, quick stop in the 20's for some whiting for bait and started heading out deeper. I thought we would have a quick drift at a spot i found last week where we started with a double hook up of dhus on bait which were put on ice for dinner. With 2 on the esky we hoped for a species change but no luck.
We found insane fish on the sounder, it felt like i was watching the dhus take my bait some times, i took a screen print in the iphone ( which i use for a monitor at the back of the boat ) but it didn't take for whatever reason, spewing.
We then changed to jig and i landed my first fish on jig and the new combo. All in all we landed 9 Dhus, 4 on bait 5 on jig, 5 sized. Hlokk caught the biggest of the day at 82cm on jig too bad the dhu went silver for the picture. All 7 released, it was a cracking day out with the weather perfect we where home by 2.
Cheers,
Vinnie

Epic Day Out... Kings
Submitted by pricey10 on Thu, 2012-08-23 16:23HI all.
We had a good day out to today so Id thought Id share. Me and the mrs are on a holiday in NZ So i thought Id get a bit of fishing in while we are here. We booked a couple of days out with Epic fishing adventures chasing kings
Things were not looking to good when we arrived in whittianga with a forecast of 30knots winds for day1. So we had a chat to our skipper Toby and he suggested we go out for a half day and fish light tackle (4kg) and stay in close. We left this morning and stayed in the bay. First up we pulled a couple of cray pots Toby set the day before and got a couple of crays for dinner. Then it was King Fish time we were straight into the action with a few nice kings on the 4kg gear. Then Terri hooked into a nice fish while trying to catch bait on a sabiki rig.The Next fish was very stubborn and it was a long battle of about 30min on the light gear and resulted in a 20kg King. Terri landed another nice king about 15kg and a good 20 minute battle. All up we would of caught over 20 Kingis and a few Salmon in there to and home by 1. all fish were caught and released!
Cant wait for Day 2 we are heading out deep. Cheers Toby... Epic
sorry people ive some how posted this 3 times while trying to do it once, been working with dodge connections while abroad

My 1st snapper on my boat
Submitted by Justo82 on Tue, 2012-08-21 20:27Just wanted to say how bloody stoked I am that I finally got my 1st snapper. Also the 1st time I've gone as far as rotto on my 5.2m boat.
Was a magical day, even got the boat up to 35 knots! It was also my 1st chance to really test my lowrance hds7 gen 2. Such an easy combo to use. And so easy to tell what's on the bottom including where the fish are.
1st up hit direction bank in around 40m water and pulled up a 60cm KG whiting. After that not much luck. Moved over to rotto and struck gold. Ground everywhere!!!! And boated my 1st snapper at 57cm!!!!
was a great day on the water and had a massive feed at the end of it.

The best fishing experience of my life!
Submitted by rockoe_ on Mon, 2012-08-20 21:41hey all,
On friday a few mates and i headed a couple of hours north of perth to chase some taylor and mulloway. We arrived at our camp site around 4:30 and we had everything set up in about an hour.So with a little bit of daylight left we thought we'd set out to find some good holes to fish the next morning. We walked for about 20 minutes and reached the point to find on the other side was a beach that was perfect for taylor and mullas and decided this was going to our spot for the morning.so we headed back to camp to rig up the rods, have a few coldies and call it a night.
The next day we were all up for 5:30 and we had the lines in the water by about 6:15, only to find out that a ton of weed had been blown in over night. We kept fishing for and hour or so before we packed it in and decided to head back over the point and fish the beach next to camp and try for a few sharks.
After a quick bite to eat it was time to send the ballons out.So i've chucked on a whole mullet about 40cm long and cast it out 30m or so, backed the drag rite off and put the rod in the holder to do its thing.I was still setting up all my other rods and i had to run back over to camp to grab my tacklebox to find that when i got back to my rod it was bent over and taking line like i've never seen before in my life.So i've picked up my rod,set the hooks, tightened the drag up and held on.After 15 minutes of fighting and 2 big jumps out of the water i dragged a massive sambo around 23kg up onto the beach and i was speachless.i took a few photos cut the leader and spent the next 20mins trying to release the fish but it swallowed the hooks to far down and made a mess of its self .I didnt want to waste the fish so we cooked it up on a fire on the beach and it fed most of the camp site so that was a plus.It wasnt no dhuey but it was better than eating samon.we fished the rest of the day and i ended up with two more both around 16-17kg.One of them was caught on 30lb and gave me a fight of a life time.Im still blown away by this experience and i hope its not to long before i get to do something like this again. It sure does make up for the last 3 months of fishing through this shitty weather and only catching string rays.
cheers guys.

Jurien Bay and Sounder advice
Submitted by AaronC on Mon, 2012-08-20 08:22Hi Guys,
Went out off Jurien bay Saturday morning with no spots just hoping to find fish.
Came across a cray pot so we decided to sound around it and this was what the sounder came up with in 38m. We pulled up 4 dhuies off it all between 50 and 65cm at once. Was very cool to have a four way hook up on dhuies. Great fun. My mate Russell pulled up the first dhu and released it immediatley so he had time for another drop. When Wham!!!!! he got smoked by this 12kg dhu on 15 pound with a $50 ebay reel. Thought it was going to explode at one stage but it did the job. Once all these fish were up we had two more drifts and couldnt catch a thing. They must have gone off the chew???or spooked them???
Found a couple of other pots and managed 2 baldies and a 60cm Black ass. Was a good day out.
Just wanted to get some of your thoughts on how my sounder is set up and your observations on the type of bottom we were on.
First sounder pic in 38m seems to me to be on sandy bottom with no real structure, the bottom is just flat and red (my guess is sand)? i can presume they were dhuies by the fish we caught. How can I tell if the were seperate fish or bait fish as well????
They second pic in 83m seems to be a corally bottom with only small bait fish??? not sure?? does the red in the middle mean one solid fish?
Is this the correct gain for this depth? what are your thoughts guys. It is a furuno 620 with a 600w tranny.
Thanks for your help.

Submitted by spook on Mon, 2012-08-20 08:00Fished the 3 mile yesterday evening from 5-6:30pm in 18m, brother got his first fish on plastics which was a 51cm dhuie he released plus some snook, few bustoffs and a cuttlefish...ha. Dinner was a 58 cm king George and 82 cm 6kg pinkie that went great on your new combo Lloyd (if your watching) caught on some unweighted chunks of cuttlefish. Couple of beers and some good fish 5 minutes from the ramp gotta love it.

Last Saturday and todays fishing
Submitted by aalfred on Sun, 2012-08-19 18:13Hi Crew,
Havent posted in a while so I thought I put up some pics from last week and today.
We went over to Rotto last week with MetroLBfisher and another mate, I had my brand new Stratic 5000 with me and was keen to break it in. We went to a reefy spot north of Rotto and I we started drifting. After a few smaller fish I landed my first eva Harlequin Fish. That was a great start for my new reel!! And later that day I got another sized Dhue! My other mate had a nice double header with a breaksea cod and a hughe kg. And MetroLBfisher caught a nice sambo on sp's and a small blacktip on bait.
Today we went over again but a bit further to the westend. I had a nice double header with a Breaksea cod and what I thougth was a big wrasse. I was just about to cut it up for bait when Jamie (MetroLBfisher) said it is a Foxfish. After a quick check in the book it went in the esky rather then on the baitboard.
Jamie also got a nice hookup on his softplastic. It run for a bit and and after a couple of minutes we saw some color and it was the the first decend sized Snapper on my boat! And that was the first snapper I have seen been caught on a sp!! One day I gona have to try them as well!
On the way back we decided to try one last time for Snapper at the inner reefs. We got to one of my spots and the wind was going a little. With the wind the drift would have been to quick and I thought I might have to anchor up. I saw a sandy spot in the mittle and I went for it with the anchor. Even after I thought to myself it could be a bit tricky. And sure enough once we tried to pull the anhcor back up it was well and truly jamed. After about 10 fruitless minutes pulling on it from different directions I gave up and cut the rope (once more in my life) but well , thats part of it!
All up we had two great days out there!
Cheers
Seb

Janice's first Dhu fish
Submitted by fathead on Sun, 2012-08-19 06:20The weather was looking good to pull the boat out and leave Manji on Friday, so my wife and I headed to Augusta fishing for the first time. We got the boat out by lunch and were only 6 km out when Janice caught her first Dhu fish, scrapping in at 50cm. Moments later she then hooked onto something big, a 90cm Dhu. She was so excited that I thought she was going to jump out of the boat. The next day which was even better, she managed to also catch her first Queen Snapper 60cm. One very happy wife!!

Submitted by nick82 on Mon, 2012-08-13 20:33Gday thought i should post something as im always on the site checking out the forums but dont really post much, headed out sat from peron with the perfect weather forecasted hoping to head out wide to some spots in the 90s but had a few engine problems on way out so decided to stay in bit closer around the 40s.Tried a few spots and only getting sgt bakers ,sized queen snapper, couple sambos then found a lump two short drifts two sized dhuies kept 1. Using bait on the two previous drifts third drift tried a caprice jig and hooked something we called it a sambo the way it was fighting then when this dhuie surfuced i was over the moon couldnt believe it and to catch it on a jig topped it off.It went 108cm my previous biggest went 88 so yeah stoked .Headed in and back at ramp by 1230 thanks for reading cheers Nick.

Good day Out - Ktown
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Tue, 2012-08-07 16:09Sorry fellas, the camera had flat batts yesterday which is a shame as there were some good photos to be had (pics are from phone cam). Basically, headed wide to a mark we had been given which we didn't plot until we got out there, only to find it was in one of the most obvious spots you'd ever seen. Heading back to our original planned spot we found a boat right on it (middle of nowhere - talk about not happy) Anyway ended up looking around and finding some new ground. Must say I have never caught so many undersize reds in my life, think we boated about 35, maybe more - not the mention atleast a dozen undersize trout and rankins each. Certainly was a day for the small fry, but we managed to get a feed of tasties (not huge but good enough)
Cheers,
Adam

Out wide off Albany
Submitted by Goodz on Tue, 2012-07-31 22:03Got to get out to the edge of the shelf off Albany over the weekend and had a cracker session with jigs and plastics. We fished in 90-95m on some good coral ground and landed plenty of good reds, pinks, queenies, dhuies, big skippy and ofcourse a few sambos! The leather jackets kept us on the move though and took quite a few assists and even a couple jigs prisoner but still had a ball using PE2 and PE3 gear all day. Anyway, here's a few pics...

PB DHU 10 metres of water Perth Metro
Submitted by Mastacks101 on Mon, 2012-07-30 13:02Hi Guys
I dont post much but we had a cracker day on Sat so I thought I would share....heahed out from fremanlte to our ground in the 10-12m that we fish every sat weather permitting, started out real slow in the morning with just a few black ass & KG's....We had a few big hit sand a few small Dhu (Released) over the day but it just wasnt happening. 4PM and i said to the guys "1 last drift cut up the fox fish for bait"
First drop and i hit the 67CM 5.5KG Dhu (Pretty much made me happy as it was a slow day) Then my mate got a 20cm Dhu...put him straight back and in the next 5 mintues BANG
This thing took so much line and did not want to come up.....I told my mate to let home run and don't loose it....we could see silver on the bottom as the depth sounder was showing 10.8m and vis was clear. 10 minutes later finally got the 9.45KG Dhu in the boat.....biggest Dhu we have ever landed in that depth so over all was an experience for us.
Light gear....big fish....shallow water day couldnt get any better

Five Fathom PB PINKY
Submitted by mikeee.p on Mon, 2012-07-30 07:56Hi all,
I'm still new to all this but i thought i might share my sunday fish with you's!
My mate Tim and I went out 6:30am in the morning, arrived around 7:15am at a spot that had some good ground "13/12 meter water" Tim stooped the boat i pulled down the anchor.
We had another boat next to us which was one of my other mates and they anchored aswell. I got my small 30lb spinner rod, shimano sienna 2000 reel with 50lb braid out on a snell hook/flaoting mullie + small running sinker. I casted that first out just to get it all ready.
I baited my bottem bouncer aswell and Tim started to have a head ache so he grabbed some salt and viniger chips and had them for a second, i scoofed my mouth with heaps suddenly my spinner road just ran like crazy, Not even 5 minutes on the spot, I said IM ON! grapped the rod pulled a strike and the bastard nearly spooled me, i couldn't stop the drag till i had some controll over him. I had to spit out the salt and viniger chips cause i couldnt bloody breathe, i said Tim get me some water my mouth is dry while pulling this thing up.
After 10 minutes of battle i said to Tim i bet you any money its a pinky, the way it was running the head shakes he grabbed the net and wulllaaa. Landed :)
I was a very happy man, i yelled out to my mates on the other boat "hahahahhaah loook!" there mouths just drop and coudlnt beleive how quick and easy it all happend.
I said to my self you know when you have a decent size pinky :)
Thanks all.
Size was 118cm at 9.1KG :)
