Quick morning fish
Submitted by soupster51 on Sat, 2010-10-09 10:54It's been a little while since I've put up a post so I thought I'd share this mornings quick session. Went out with a mate for a quick casting session on the local barrier reefs. First cast and I hardly had half a crank wound and bang a little red bass smashed my popper. I called it for a bigger fish at first due to how hard it went. I was only saying on the way out that I haven't caught a red bass on popper yet: well that is that duck out of the way. We kept moving up the reef and a little while later I nailed a nice little blue-fin trevally. We then moved into one of the passes in the reef and started casting. I noticed that we were drifting over a huge dropoff so I changed to a 80gm jig and within 5 minutes had a solid trout that will be eaten in the very near future. No huge fish but a great way to spend a Saturday morning.

last mintue dash
Submitted by Luke R on Thu, 2010-10-07 19:24deciced at the last minute today that i was going to head out. It was 10:30am and i had the boat packed and was on my way. I hit the water at 11 and headed out, it was beautiful. 30knts the whole way out. I really just wanted to jig up a heap of ambers and have a bit of fun with them, nothing to serious. I got to the spot and there was fish all over the sounder, Great. First drop came up a nice amber, pretty happy with myself. I kept fishing the ground for the next couple of hours and up came heaps of ambers, i also got into some HUGE skippy with some pushing 5-6kg, it was great because i have never encounted them at that size before. There was another boat fishing the same ground as me, he was dropping bait the whole time and got nothing, i was using jigs and cleaned up. Heres some pics, they are a kinda bad but i did go by myself

Need advise on Weco or better portable freezers
Submitted by roberta on Wed, 2010-10-06 13:01Hi All,
Need some advise on a purchase of waeco or other brand fridge/freezer. Looking for the one with two seperate sections, freezer one side then fridge section other side. Money isn't a problem.
When we get the new 4x4 it has a plug in the back section for a fridge, adaptor build in. runs when you are driving, and turns off fridge when motor stopped.
Went to BCF in Cockburn shopping complex, didn't have much of a variety of waecos or other brands to look at, in fact the whole store looked like it need stock.
Thanks

pirating again
Submitted by Luke R on Mon, 2010-10-04 16:08hey all
Well after using the daiwa pirates the other day with great success i was keen as mustad to get out and give them another go, This time the plan for the day was to anchor and burley in the morning for some yellowtail kings then head out to some lumps behind rotto for some pirating and maybe even hit up the amberjack that are hanging around some of my spots. So first off after burlying for a hour all that came up was a nice sized pinkie that the lurcha caught on a drifted mulie. we then decided to head out and hit some lumps not to far away, down with the pirate and first drop up came a nice sized dhuie, we mucked around catching some blackass and smaller dhuies on the pirates then decided to get some ambers, they were quite fussy at first only taking the pirate and better quality jigs, it wasnt untill later in the arvo that they seem to turn on and ended up smacking anything that went down. It was great weather out on the water all day and we didnt get back in till about 5. Hoping to hit two rocks up this week with the pirates again before the ban comes in

Nice Baldys...
Submitted by TWITCHEMUP on Mon, 2010-10-04 14:43Just a few pics of yesterday's (Sunday's) trip, once again we were placcy fishing.
First 3 pics are of a nice 4.5-5kg Baldy I caught after he picked at the plastics 3 or 4 times before i could set the hooks properly, and the last pic is off a smaller Baldy I also caught later in the day.
We had rather sloppy conditions due to a confused 2m sea which made the plastics fishing a little hard but we still managed to catch and release 11 x Dhu's all between 45 - 65cm so no monster's hense no pics but still good fun on pe1.5/2 and the 2 Baldy's which we kept for a feed. Back home by 2pm another great day off the coast of Dongara.
Cheers

Dhurien Dhuie on a Dhig
Submitted by Auslobster on Sun, 2010-10-03 13:46Got to our spot this morning, and I played deckie while my sons and father-in-law fiddled around with stinking bait for an hour and a half, catching sambos/sweep/undersized snapper, and a just sized dhuie. The old man, a dyed-in-the-wool handliner from yesteryear, was becoming frustrated with the newfangled fancy pants young whippersnapper overhead outfit I set him up with and decided to call it quits.
Quick as a flash, I whipped my trusty PE3 weapon out of its sheath and sent a 100gm pink Black Magic (Ranger closing down sale, $10) to the coral below...one jig, two jig, not quite three jig, BAM! The old man never even had a chance to open his gob and give me more crap about not using bait...the little Lemax smashed 14 kilos of prime WA sea beef in record time and all the stinking bait fishos were finally given their come-uppance. They realised they were in the company of greatness and had to snivel the rest of the day away, scraping by with some baldies and snapper just to save face.
More than enough fish for us to take home now, rest of the time will be spent chasing shallow water light tackle stuff.

South, skis, salmon, squid, snook and a shark! **EDIT - NOW WITH PHOTOS**
Submitted by beau on Sun, 2010-10-03 02:42Hi all! I havent put a decent report up in a while so here goes! Enjoy...
After reading that Oceanside was a having a sale over the long weekend i thought it was time to get a decent rod and reel to use the on the ski. Went in to the shop Friday arvo and was greeted by Shaun who put me onto some gear with great enthusiasm and knowledge. Ended up walking out with the rod/reel, Mcarthy plastics and jigheads and a Yozuri squid jig. Thought i would get a half decent jig after reading some comments on my last post about squid on the ski, and a few members said imagine how many i wouldve caught if i had a decent jig. Travelled down to mandurah later that arvo to stay at my grandparents for a couple nights and headed down to the cut to flick some lures around after dad had caught one the weekend before. With no luck there, we headed to the Jolly Frog jetty after dinner and while dad pulled in some small herring and a thumping KG, i caught 3 decent squid on my new jig. Stoked!
Headed back to the cut in the morning and things were pretty quiet for a few hours, with only a few herring and 1 or 2 fussy salmon swimming past sending me and my little brother into a casting frenzy of lures and new mcarthy plastics without any luck. Not long after the tide turned and started to come in, the salmon started to show a bit more interest and what was only 1 or 2 fish had now turned into a school of about 25 fish. The school was swimming up and down the rocks every 5 or 10mins. Got a few chases but no strike on my rapala xrap, then Dad hooked and lost one using a half a fillet of herring. This happened again a few minutes later and this fish also spat the hooks.
Things went a bit quiet and the salmon started to swim deep so dad let his herring fillet drift to the bottom. He had a couple of "pulls" on his line so started reeling in after he felt a bit of extra weight on the end of his line. Next thing i know he's screaming his head off saying "GET THE SQUID JIGG GET THE JIG!!" and thats when my brother turned to me and all i remember him saying is "Its HUGE!"
In all the mayhem i told dad to keep the bait in the water while the squid was latched to it to give me enough time to put the jig on. I climbed over the rocks and saw this huge squid on the end of the line!! Dad was convinced the squid was hooked on the gangs but i knew otherwise and when he tried to lift it out the water it fell off and thats when i cast the jig in a meter behind and lost the squid in the glare of the sun. Next thing i know the line goes tight and theres ink squirting everywhere. I didnt want to risk the 8lb line snapping so i got my little bro to net it.
Im not sure if i can claim it as my catch but if i do its definately my PB!! What do you guys reckon??

This is the same squid only a couple minutes after putting it in the bucket! Amazing how much they change colour!

After the excitement of the squid, the salmon showed up again and i hooked up on my 2-3kg graphite outfit, 8lb main and 19lb leader, on my lucky Rapala Xrap in ghost white, a lure that claimed 11 salmon this season! After 5mins, the sensible 4kg fish that took the fight out to open water rather then me having to chase it up and down the rocks, was ready to be netted. My bro couldnt reach the water with the net from the rock we were standing on, so the plan was to get a bit closer to the water, and after taking one step to my left, the fish took 2m to the right and the leader touched the rocks and snapped instantly!! MY LUCKY XRAP!!!
I was in a pretty foul mood and wanted to leave straight away and watch the Footy grand final so we left. We went back down there late arvo, and got told by other fishos that 2 salmon had been landed in the last couple of hours. After casting for about half an hour without any luck, i saw a guy fishing from the beach pull a smaller salmon in, probly around 2-3kg, then his mate pull another one in after 5mins, so we made the call that we'd go try off the beach.
We fished about 50m up the beach from the other guys, i was throwing everything out there, slices, richter plugs, roostas.. Everything except mulies! The other guys pulled in 3 more salmon on mulies and we got nothing. You could see the fish swimming around in the swell, coming right in about 5m from the sand! Dad also caught this snook (?) in the arvo on a laser pro.

Dad went back the next day while i was having an arvo kip. I wake up to my phone ringing and its Dad, "HURRY! SALMON EVERYWHERE! HUGE!" *then i hear his mate in the background screaming and yelling in Balinese* so i mumbled that i'd be down in a couple mins and then screamed at my lil bro to move his ass and get in the car. When we got down to the rocks, Dad had just got one 5mins earlier using a mulie.

*Dads balinese mate was yelling and screaming that another school was swimming by just as i took the photo, note Dad looking in that direction!*

So after dealing with alot of fussy schools of salmon, and when i say fussy i mean, hitting them in the head with mulies as they swim past and dont even get a look at, and a handful of chases on the xrap and mcarthy sp's, we ended up with only 1 salmon, 5 squid, KG and a dozen herring.
If you are chasing some late season salmon, i highly reccomend the beach north of the northern groyne at the cut!!

With my lil bro on school holz, and me working on night shift, i decided to take him back down to see if we could luck into some salmon. Coming over the hill as we got to to the beach, we were greeted with glassy conditions and crystal clear water. Got halfway down the dirt track you take towards the rocks we noticed a school of fish just off a reefy ledge so i parked up and noticed they were only buff bream, but Cody got his rod out and started casting a 30g slice just to try jag one for some fun. Then he yelled out that one fish chased his lure and said he think it was a salmon.

The next pic is of the same photo, just zoomed in, and you can see the buff bream hanging around the reef, and the small school of salmon swimming in from top left.

We couldnt get another chase on the lures so we threw out some mulies but the fish still werent interested. I followed the school north about 100m to another reefy ledge where there was also another school of much larger salmon! Out went the mulie under a blob and with the ledge only being about 8m from where i was standing, i could see the salmon start to swim around the mulie, slowly getting closer, kind of egging each other to eat it, but never actually doing so.
I watched a banded sweep start gnawing at the mulie so i pulled it in a bit closer but the bait fell off, then a salmon came straight in and ate it whole! Thought i would never say this, but i think salmon are actually smart fish! I used to think they were ultimate predators, eating everything in there way, but they obviously knew there was a single hook hiding in that mulie, and waited for the bait to fall off before eating it!! I cast out again and they did the same thing, swim around it and wait for the bait to fall off the hook. Thats when i spotted a rather large lump of swell heading right for me so i started to reel in the bait pretty quickly and the blob making a popper effect, attracted a salmon and it chased the bait for about 3m before i realised so i stopped and the salmon took the bait! BANG! Nope, fish was gone, i struck too early!
I have never caught a salmon on bait before, only lures, so it was a totally new experience for me, and one that i couldnt overcome, because the exact same thing happened 3 times after, all fish chasing the float if i reeled in quickly, then taking the mulie when i stopped. By the time i changed tactics and threw a popper on the fish had moved on..
Took Cody out again during week, this time on the ski, hoping to get him onto his first pink snapper. Only managed smaller ones around 25cm and some skippy around the same time. Is it illegal to target snapper during the ban, even if you are catch and releasing and only want the fish for a photo? Cody did manage to catch this nice flounder, and found this shark with its head wedged under some rocks on challenger beach. Anyone able to identify what type of shark it is??

And im going to throw this pic up just to show the versatality of the Panasonic Lumix FT2. Such an awesome camera! *NOTE: Ive had to downgrade the photo quality on all these photos to be able to upload them to the site*

Hope you enjoyed my blab and pics PLZ COMMENT!

BREAM - The Holy Grail 40cm+
Submitted by ADDICT- dUFFMAN on Fri, 2010-10-01 16:45My 2 mates and I tried our luck in this study break this morning (Friday, 1st October) for some bream in the Swan up around Garrett Road and Ascot area.
Using river prawns in the first half hour around 6 bream were caught all ranging from 24-28cm so no monsters but still good fun.
Around 9:30 my rod went off, pulling my rod holder down due to wet, unstable sand, and then dragged my rod a foot across sand to the waters edge before my mate grabbed it.
With an appreciative slap on my mates back I was now fight a very decent fish.
With a good 10 seconds too close too the pylons, Iworked him out after he took a solid 10-15 metres of line.
Saw a nice big flash of bronze out deep. And got him in.
He/She was 43cm and 1.527kg, my pb to date and finally the fishing gods have sent down the holy grail of breamfishing the 40cm+ fish yewh!
My patience finally paying off now just have to move onto lures.
My mate ended up getting a 34cm decent bream that seemed liek and anticlimax after the previous fish :P.

Unusual catch at Mandurah
Submitted by monfsts on Fri, 2010-10-01 13:18Went down to mandurah on wednesday night, thinking of getting some nice yummy crab for dinner and upon reaching there just found out that the season was closed. So, thankfully i brought my rod along so i rigged up my line with long shank size 12 to see what's down there. Manage to catch a few herrings, whittings and silver bream and suddenly bang...my rod was so heavy...cant be another herring, might be a bigger silver bream...lo and behold it's a SALMON. What a good fighter they are!!! First time in my life i caught a salmon and it's the biggest saltwater fish i caught other than stingray. How amazing, it's about 9pm at night, no.12 long shank baited with cut prawn pieces.
Amazing night...

Finfish fisheries Pilbara & Gascoyne
Submitted by roberta on Thu, 2010-09-30 09:21Just saws this on the Perthnow site, hope I copy/pasted it right
FINFISH possession limits could be changed as the fisheries management focus broadens to include the Pilbara and Gascoyne regions.
Much of the attention recently has been on managing demersal species in the West Coast region (Augusta to Kalbarri) but at a recent Recfishwest information seminar, a Department of Fisheries spokesperson confirmed that possession limits were one a of a number of areas under review, due to concerns about overfishing in the North-West.
The spokeperson said that the possession limit review was in response to some community concerns about the amount of fish being caught by visitors to the Pilbara and Gascoyne regions, with some local stations considering introducing their own reduced limits linked to the accommodation terms and conditions.
He stressed that no decision had been made and it was just part of an overall review of the state’s fishing regulations.
While I very rarely bring back more than 10 kilos of fillets from a fishing trip and therefore any potential change to possession limits probably wouldn’t be an issue for me, a split limit of 10 kilos of pelagics and 10 kilos of demersals, for example, would be a contentious issue for many anglers.
Anglers who enjoy annual trips to places like Steep Point, the Mackerel Islands and Exmouth would find just one large spanish mackerel would exhaust their quota.
It would be a real issue at land-based rock fishing spots like Steep Point, where catch and release is not an option.
While community concern may be the spur for the review, surely sustainability of fish stocks is the crux of the issue and such a change should only occur if Fisheries has scientific evidence of a problem caused by possession limits, which does not appear to be the case at the current time.
In good recreational fishing news this week, Fisheries Minister Norman Moore unveiled the new four-wheel-drive fleet to be used by mobile compliance patrols that began operating in the middle of this year.
The six new land-based mobile patrol units will enhance education and enforcement and were deployed in July as part of Western Australia’s revised recreational fishing management arrangements.
With 13 new Fisheries and Marine officers also employed this year, the State Government has effectively quadrupled the number of mobile compliance units available across WA to monitor recreational fishing activity.
This will help with general monitoring of fishing activity and also help speed up responses to illegal fishing reports.
Meanwhile, Fisheries has also dismissed as totally inaccurate a recent media report that suggested bag limits for tailor and herring were likely to be further tightened.
The report in a local newspaper, which ran on September 3 under the title “Fish study may force tighter limits”, and claimed “stocks are lower than 20 years ago, with preliminary findings from a Department of Fisheries' report - to be released in November - showing that recreational fishers are putting more pressure on herring numbers than the commercial industry.”
It went on to say: “(Senior research scientist) Dr (Kim) Smith said commercial fishing pressure on herring was low, but recreational fishing pressure was still significant and "something of a concern".
“It has revealed that between 70 and 80 per cent of herring caught during the spawning season were female, a quota Dr Smith said was unusual and unsustainable.
“She said tailor stocks were "not where we'd like them to be" but the health of the stock had improved in recent times.”
However, The Sunday Times understands that Fisheries contacted the writer before the piece went to print disputing the accuracy of the draft article and warned against pre-empting the report, which is yet to be completed, but that the journalist simply ignored their concerns.
In some final Fisheries news, data on how last year’s changes to demersal fishing regulations have worked with regards to cutting the catch by the required 50 per cent in the West Coast region (Augusta to Kalbarri) are close to being finalised and released.
The noises coming out of Fisheries suggest the initiatives, including the two-month seasonal closure, are working towards achieving the desire result.
dhufish thursday
Submitted by Luke R on Tue, 2010-09-28 15:33hey all
well i don't really spend that much time targeting dhufish or any of the shallower water species in fact, so i thought last week i would pop get out and target a few before the ban comes in for something different. The weather was quite rough going out and it wasnt until about 10:30 that it calmed off, there was bait all over the sounder, literaly blacking out half the screen, i thought to myself that there would have to be dhuies all over it. To my suprise we didnt even get a touch, all we caught off it was a handfull of southern blues and bonito. We spent most of the day driving around finding fish on the sounder and dropping on it, the great thing we found about using softies and jigs is how quickly you can cover ground which at the end of the day gives you more time fishing new areas. For most of the day i was using a 100g daiwa pirate jig which i could now fault, the great thing about them is you can use them in so many different ways and still catch fish, we also used 7in mcarthy bullhead minnows with great success!!! At the end of the day we ended up with 10 dhuies with the biggest going 10kgs, we also caught a heap of small pinkies, blackass and tuna. Hopefully we get a gap in the weather before the ban comes in because the dhuies are absolutely going off at the moment!!
gear i used:
smith kgs68
daiwa certate hyper 4000
daiwa tournament hyper 8 40lb
mcarthy 7inch bullheads
mcarthy 1.5oz jighead
80g daiwa pirate jigs
enjoy the pics

Handlining session
Submitted by Bunny on Sun, 2010-09-26 19:01Thought I might share a few pics of my then girlfriend (now wife!) on her first ever fishing trip I took her on. This was a little while back.
Starting from the fist Pic:
In the background my brother is holding up a trout she just caught on a handline hence me being up the front ready to take a photo. Mick's line went though so I managed to get her nailing another great trout. Quick learner!!
Who says handlines aren't fun.
But that was later in the day. Her first ever bait down produced a small rock cod which I released and tossed the bait back in. She immediatley hooked up under the boat and landed one of the biggest Mangrove Jacks I've ever seen. I reckon it followed the rock cod up to the boat. What a start.
It was the first of 5 Jacks we got to go with the 21 (bag out) Coral Trout and a few Spaniards to boot. Needless to say I got her hooked. And now she lets me spend money on as much fishing gear as I want.......

new PB
Submitted by davey on Wed, 2010-09-22 15:55took one of the guys from work for a fish on saturday.
the run out was a bit lumpy so it was a steady cruise out.
the sounder showed a lot of promise just off bald head so i set up for a drift.
once the boat stopped Cale started to feel a bit unwell (understatement of the year)
with the burley flowing freely we dropped down,it wasnt long before i hooked into something very lively, after a few minutes work it came to the surface,
lovely queenie measured 89cm a new PB for me..
had to head home then as cale was getting really crook so only the one fish caught, still well happy with the result.

Mcarthy SP Dhuies
Submitted by motty on Mon, 2010-09-20 19:41Well, after hearing all the rage and good reports on the Mcarthy SP's, decided to buy some from All Boat Business and headed out today to 14m just behind 3 mile from Hillarys. First drop and up came a 48cm dhu, not big, but a good start. Released this one, then dropped down again and didnt even get a chance to Jig it. Dropped it straight down the throat of a 4kg dhu. Man, they are a lot of fun in shallow water on light gear! Landed this one, then as i was about to spike it, it gave a kick and was released back! But not before we took a couple of pics! Not on camera though, on the phone by my mate! Oh well, at least I got to see it, and I know its there for next time. Wind then blew up, so we headed in! But I am very impressed with these placcies, and will def be buying more of them in the future! Great fun, and well worth the money spent! will be heading out on thurs night to chase some pinkies off hale rd, so hopefully the placcies will do the goods agian. Colour was the baby elk 5 inch! ABSOLUTELY LOVE EM! CANT RECOMMEND EM ENOUGH!

Very happy with the way the outdoor bar is turning out - a few progress pics
Submitted by Andy Mac on Sat, 2010-09-18 10:32Quite a few months back I decided to build an outdoor bar. I had visions of it being decked out in old fishing lures, nets, floats etc and having a bit of fishing character about it, but after building the brick shell just before Xmas last year it sat there with planks of wood as a bar top, for quite a while. Whilst we made the most of it at Xmas it was pretty piss weak in terms of function and aesthetics.

Earlier this year I finally got my cousin to do the top and the cupboards (he is a carpenter - I am not!) and the semi finished product looked way too "upper class" for me to ruin with old lures etc, it just wouldn't go.

So I came up with the idea to turn it into a fishing based bar, but a bit more stylish and clean cut. So I installed a LED TV hooked up to foxtel (EPL and Fishing shows on high rotation) and bolted a few fishing pics on the wall and on the bar surrounds.

Basically the cover for the first 7 Issues of the mag are around the bar and a few pics of me and my various regular deckies up on the wall.

The back wall is going to be changed to hide all the wires and downpipes etc and allow more pics up there etc. Everything is lockable and the tv comes inside rather than staying out. We may also put up a false ceiling so we can change all the lighting too. Right now it has led lighting under the black facia so it lights up nicely at night when its in party mode.

Once its fully finished I'll post a few more pics. But needless to say I am pretty pleased with it so far. Looking forward to summer with a few beers and bourbons and a few mates watching live sport and fishing shows on TV. C'mon You Spurs!

Submitted by beau on Tue, 2010-09-14 12:21Me and my mate Ben (goatlobster) headed out into the sound on my ski and caught these puppies. We both caught one and lost one within 45mins of dropping a line. The fish were a first for us both, and probly our best captures ever, considering the jetski, shallow water, and awesome weather conditions. Fish went 81 and 82cm, but the 82cm fish was nearly a kilo heavier.
* Thanks to JR JETSKI who has helped with advive for fishing off the ski*

Dongara Dhus
Submitted by TWITCHEMUP on Mon, 2010-09-13 15:27Hi fellas, here's a few photos from the weekend before last me and the missus went out for a Sunday fish and jigged up a few more Dhu's on placcys.
First and second photos are off my missus new PB Dhu going 10.5/11kg caught on a Fireblood 4000 and 3-6kg T Curve pe2.
Third photo is off a small Dhu I caught.
Forth is a 6/7kg Dhu the missus caught.
Fifth is a little Sambo that smashed the placcy half way up nearly ripped my rod out my hand lol.
Great day on the water hardly any swell and just enough SW wind to drift slowly over some new ground I've been exploring, and yes the missus out fished me on this day... lol

warroona trout
Submitted by skrewloose on Thu, 2010-09-09 21:13hi guys
i made the decision today to make the short 40min treck to warroona dam for the sunset bite and see if i could tempt some redfin or trout to play nice
after 5min of walking the bank me and my mate stuart found a deep pool with a water fall feeding ice cold water into the dam i thought wat an awsome spot as i got closer to the bank i couldnt belive my eyes when i spoted no more than 30 big ex-brood stock rainbows sitting in the current as i was busly rigging my fly rod with a green wolly bugger stuart had beaten my to it and had the tiny celta i lent him smashed by 1.5 kg of angary trout after a short fight i helped him net the fish and quickly took a couple of pics.
i quickly finished rigging my fly rod and send a quick 2meter cast into the waiting fish for instant hookup after a spireted tussle i banked a beautifle 2kg rainbow
we went on to land 6 more fish around the same size before we left them biting and left the dam whilst there was still a bit of light around for the drive home

Caught my dream fish on Saturday - can't get any happier than this
Submitted by John the Pom on Mon, 2010-09-06 23:35Went out on Saturday with Too Ezy charters from Mindarie. Sort of a Father's day for a few of the lads - 4 adults, 3 kids (12yo+). We had the boat to ourselves $900 all in - $150 each, with one of the kids not wanting to fish but go with his Dad.
Had a really good time, smaller boat than your average charter but much better being with people who all knew each other and Irish Kev the skipper was a top bloke as well.
We could call the shots on what we wanted to do so we pretty much hit some marks they had on the GPS and then stopped in between when something looked decent on the sounder.
Pulled up one average BA and another very impressive one, drifted onto a bit of sand and pulled up the biggest sand whiting I've ever seen - 44cm.
A few undersize pinkies went back and just near the end of the day when things had slowed down, now before I tell the next bit please bear in mind I am someone who only shore fishes and from the only 2 charters I've been on before the best I've got is some big skippy and the best from shore are some bull herring, a big gardie and some decent skippy and I've only lived here for 20 months - then you'll realise that this is a big deal, no, it's a huge deal, this is a moment that will live with me forever and the whole thing will keep getting played over and over in my mind 'til I die - anyway I digress - just as things had slowed down and the 3 kids were asleep after being sick, the second set of whales of the day popped up about 10 meters from the boat to have a look at us. I thought I'd take a few snaps for the album, got the camera out, booted it up and sure enough the whales had buggered off down below and just as I was cursing them my rod bent over double and the reel made a noise that I couldn't replicate from my keyboard.
Anyway, after a few minutes and a few short runs up pops the fish of my dreams, Kev duly dispatches a dodgy gaff shot and gets his hand in it's mouth while trying to get another gaff shot in and I'm preparing to jump in - just in case he let's go - let me tell you, this fish was not getting away. The second gaff shot is well placed and finally we got it on board.
I have to say I've never felt anything like it, it was a better feeling than watching Newccastle lift the FA cup, better than winning the ashes
, hell it was nearly up there with the birth of my 3 kids. I've caught fish before and even if they are small you still get a buzz when the fish hit, but this was something different entirely, I felt proud, I just could not stop staring at it and smiling, I'm even smiling thinking about it typing this. I actually didn't think fish could get as big as this and what a creature of beauty it was.
On with the pics, now I know this will be average stuff to some of you on this site as I've seen some very impressive fish on here, but I don't think I'll ever get anything like this again.
It went 13kg
Thanks for reading
