JIGWREX IS HERE!
Submitted by Kasey L. on Tue, 2006-09-12 00:36Time to reach in and spend some $$ boys and girls,
Jigwrex are here.
The first thing you will notice is its paint job; trust me.
Bit pricy... might it still come down a bit over time? ;)
I'll definately recommend it over anything else Shimano has to offer in terms of Jig rods, until the Blue Roses hit the shelves..

Fighting technique-jigging
Submitted by Mick B on Tue, 2006-09-05 00:25I have only seen one line recently on fighting technique on jigged fish.I have lost several BIG fish this year because I couldn't or didn't get control of the beast before IT got control of ME. Having nearly been dragged out of my boat by two such fish,I can tell you it is not funny when you fish alone(on PE40 and heavy drag)and I was only saved by the leader breaking! You guys out there who tangle with Amberjack,GTs,etc must use a very specialised and proven technique. What is it? The old Portuguese pole fishermen have told me that they never used to let a tuna 'get its head down' or it would break even 3mm mono. They say they just kept it comeing up. Also do any of you get sharks on jigs? Thanks and Keep 'em Comeing.

Jigging movies
Submitted by Dasho on Fri, 2006-08-11 21:20Well I have been watching heaps of online free movies from Yahoo Japan.
Here are the ones I found most interesting for you jigger and poppers.
Here is the link to watch the Seven Seas boys early jigging movie - Jigging Secrets.
Chuuk, Tokara, unknown old school reels and a very young Matsutani san.
It is in Japanses, but don't bother downloading the language file, just follow my instructions...when you click on the link, scroll down to a picture of a jig with red writing over it, then click on the orange button to the right.
You can fast forward the speaking parts which is good...

This is the link for GT popping in Indonesia and Komodo Island.
same deal scroll down and click the orange button next to the pic of the massive GT.

Everything LEADERS
Submitted by Maverick on Thu, 2006-08-10 17:53Well thought I would start this thread off .
Everyone new to jigging will be wanting info and getting ready for the up comming season so I might as well start now .
Leaders , well I use Penn 10X in 100lb , good honest stuff not too expensive and works .
I have used the Surecatch leader in clear and it's good and it comes with crimps which is a bonus , I don't crimp myself but you can allways use them somewhere else .
I find the Surecatch drags a bit when you pull the knot up tight so a bit of lube ( read spit) works a treat I use a 3 or 4 turn uni for attatching my leader to swivel and have found it holds up well .
Other leaders used is Black majic, Jinkai, and some crazy expensive japanese stuff , all good but I stick with the stuff I'm used to availability is a big thing for me as I go thru a fair bit and Penn 10X I can even pick up at Kmart if I have to .
As for leader length , well you need a few wraps on the spool when the fish is close so 4 to 6 m is fine as the rod is only 1.8 m max so a couple of wraps on the spool and add the rod length which gives you a few m to the fish for the decky to get a couple of wraps around his hand with out a rod tip getting in the way to bring the fish alongside for quick release or onto the deck for hook removal pics etc then back in the drink .
Also a good reason for a longer than usual leader is so when you jigging away furiously the knot hits the rod tip so you know it's near the surface and you don't smack someone with a 400 g jig when it launches from the water .
I'll stop now so others can give some input but thats how I do my leaders for jigging .
CHEERS , MAV.

Fishwrecked.com joins the 'Sambo Science 2' program
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Fri, 2006-04-07 12:54Today I've been down to Murdoch to speak to Andrew Roland from the Samsonfish Science program. Seeing as we are spending a week on the south coast over Easter, there is a good chance there will be a few schools around and hopefully a few tagged ones from when they were aggregating in the metro area.
I am of the opinion that samsonfish are going to be the next world class sports fishery here in Perth and any information that is gathered on them can only be benefitial to us understanding their movements, growth and spawning aggregations. I will hopefully have some video footage and pictures of us tagging samsonfish and successfully releasing them in the coming weeks.
Fishwrecked.com promotes catch and release, sustainable fishing practices and now scientific research. If you have any questions, please ask and I'll answer to the best of my knowledge. I will get Andrew to post up some information regarding the program once it finishes.
Cheers,
Adam
Samson Fishing Trip.
Submitted by ken_W on Sun, 2006-03-19 16:40Hi,
I'm from West Malaysia, I've read much about Samson jigging in Perth.
Appreciate someone can share with me how much does it cost (individual and group charter) for samson fishing in Perth? And how to go about? Thanks.
Cheers,
Kenneth.
