teaching kids to shoot
Submitted by anypuddle on Sun, 2015-01-18 09:26Dear fishwreckers,
My young boys are developing a healthy obsession with guns/shooting, I have access to a hunting property buts its 3 hours north, anyway to cut to the chase does anyone out there have 50 acres plus that that would be willing to allow me to teach my boys how to target shoot and handle guns the right way. (.22lr). I have mates with 5 acre blocks but quite rightly they are hesitant in this day and age , hell its risky even to shoot an air rifle in your own yard now. Absolute safety is a priority and I am more than happy to compensate with your choice of cold beverage. I've been shooting for 20 years now I want my boys to experience the same "real life". Been members of clubs before but could never attend enough with my work schedule.
I'm NOR so anywhere up or out that way would be awesome. I know how hard it is to trust people these days so any PMs will be greatly appreciated.

Car/trailer parking for 4-6 days while at Rotto, what is available near one of the ramps to access such as Hillaries or Swan River?
Or does anyone have somewhere I could stash the car/trailer while we are over there?

Reasons for Marron Dissapearing
Submitted by Bushyyep on Thu, 2015-01-15 09:37My old man has a dam down south that at one stage is loaded with marron and they have just dissapered. Around August we had no trouble getting 20 in a couple of hours in pots and over the start of the summer its a fight to get one or two. Is there any reason for them being turned off pots or have they walked to another dam kms away.
This time last year they were playing the game and walking into the pots
And we dont really take that many out of the dam just a few a month
Cheers

Help - trailer spring replacement
Submitted by in 2 deep on Tue, 2015-01-13 18:22So I buy a boat off a private seller on the weekend, then drive it home and one of the springs break. Today I get told the trailer was originally from America and that it is near impossible to find a replacement spring !! Can anyone else who has been in the same position please let me know where I can source American springs for my trailer - I can probably import them in but I have a planned camping/boating trip planned for next week and need to replace it this weekend.
Any help appreciated - I live in the southwest but will travel to Perth...
Cheers

Cheers Compleat Angler Nedlands
Submitted by Boydy on Thu, 2015-01-08 21:18Credit where credit is due.
Two days before Christmas while packing for a trip that was coming up, I was just admiring my latest acquisition a Twinpower 5000SWA.
It jumped out of my hands and threw itself on the ground..... F%£$ Me.
Anyway after some circle work in the garage picked up the bits and pieces (so many of them from a fairly small reel) put it in a bag and went to bed with the shits.
Next day gave Compleat Angler a call, told them my story.
Not expecting any miracles so close to Christmas they said bring it in and they would do all they could.
Got in there and they took a look at the damage and with my agreement decided best to send it back to Shimano Australia for repair.
With this there were many apologies for not being able to fix it on the spot, and the offer of a loan reel was put to me.
The loan reel was not required and i was honesty gob smacked at the effort these guys went to.
Reel was sent away.
Went on the trip and didn't expect to hear anything for at least a few weeks due to the time of year.
Got a call this morning from them say my reel was back ready to go..... Well bugger me.
Got in there picked it up asked what the damage was (payment) and told $20.00 if that's ok.....if that's oohhkay, to cover freight.
A bit dumb struck, made some small talk with the guy helping me out, he hoped I would get out there and give it a good work out, thanked him a few times and left.
Afterwards I was telling the Wife it wasn't that bad after all, I actually never asked him how they managed to come to the price. Other than they said long as freight was covered they would be happy as a passing comment.
The reel had a Shimano Australia tag attached to it when I picked it up as well.
Just thought this type of good customer service was worth mentioning as there are so many bad reports you hear of these days.
Cheers Compleat Angler Nedlands.

engel power options
Submitted by scotto on Tue, 2015-01-06 14:42yo bitchez,
I got a decent sized camping trip this year - 2 months, boom! I have a MT60FP engel (60 litre), that I want to primarily use as a freezer. most places I go wont have 240V power, so I'm trying to weigh out how to power it enough to keep everything frozen/freeze, which (according to the engel site), is DC Power Consumption: Variable from 0.5 to 4.2 AMPS Maximum, whatever the fark that means...
the way I see it is I have 3 options:
1) get a dual battery setup in the hilux, and keep it in the car.
2) get a solar panel capable of serving the engels power requirements.
3) just run it off the generator as needed.
I don't want to spend truck loads of ca$h, and I have a good quality 2.5kVa sine wave generator, that uses aprox 1 litre per hour, so option 3 is the front runner at the moment.
just curious to hear others opinions, experiences, thoughts and estimates of costs.
cheers

maybe the GWS is copping it for another shark
Submitted by petermac on Mon, 2015-01-05 23:15the GWS gets blamed for every attack down our coast , funny thing last year with the drum lines in what where they catching , it was tiger sharks . the thing is tigers are a tropical shark not usualy seen in the metro area . The drum lines were pulling 5 to 6 foot tigers well i have seen 16 foot tigers and was charged by a 14 foot tiger at black ledge of onslow , so just my opionin but now that the tigers have migrated south maybe it is tigers that are taking divers and surfers and maybe not just GWS

KFC applies for liquor licence for a new outlet in Parramatta
Submitted by hezzy on Sun, 2015-01-04 16:19good idea or the start of bigger issues into the future ?
not keen on it myself , tend to agree with the negative association between kfc/alcohol and kids drinking more earlier in life
hezzy
Fast food retailer KFC has confirmed it is trying to open a store in western Sydney that will sell alcohol alongside its usual fried chicken products.
The chain has proposed opening a store on Church Street, Parramatta, and the company has applied for a liquor licence.
In a statement, KFC said it "hopes to introduce a new KFC experience in Parramatta's CBD in the near future, serving beer and cider as part of its menu".
The company said that in other countries select KFC stores have liquor licences, serving a small selection of alcohol.
KFC is trying to join a growing number of fast food providers which sell alcohol including chains such as Mad Mex, Nando's, Guzman y Gomez and Grill'd.
The Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority (ILGA) confirmed KFC had applied to serve alcohol at its new store, and said a decision on whether to grant that would depend on a community impact statement from KFC.
Health advocate calls for rejection of liquor licence
The ILGA released a statement which said: "Before giving approval, ILGA will need to be satisfied that the overall social impact of the proposal will not be detrimental to the well-being of the local or broader community," the statement said.
If they [KFC] want to run pubs, let them run pubs, but don't market KFC in association with alcohol. We don't need more normalisation of alcohol for kids
Professor Mike Daube, Professor of Health Policy at Curtin University
One of Australia's leading public health campaigners has called on the ILGA to reject the KFC liquor licence application.
"It sounds like one of those harebrained schemes that marketing people come up with," said Mike Daube, Professor of Health Policy at Curtin University.
"It really is quite absurd to be associating a product like KFC with alcohol," Professor Daube said.
"This is a product that is massively marketed to kids and to families and the last thing we need is kids associating a child-friendly brand with alcohol.
"If they [KFC] want to run pubs, let them run pubs, but don't market KFC in association with alcohol. We don't need more normalisation of alcohol for kids."
Professor Daube said advertising had a strong effect on children and they would associate the KFC brand with alcohol if the liquor licence was granted.
"There is very substantial evidence that kids are influenced by alcohol advertising and that's why there is so much pressure to curb even more the kind of alcohol to which kids are exposed," he said.
"What we are seeing every day at the moment is the KFC Big Bash [cricket tournament] being promoted on television and for kids to be associating that with alcohol takes us into the realms of the absolutely irresponsible."

New tyres
Submitted by Dale on Sat, 2015-01-03 17:41Shopping around online for new tyres for my ute today and had a look at the tyre sales web site. Found what I wanted, really good price, went to purchase as I was quoted around $880 for 4 Kumho's clicked to purchase and another $120 goes on top for shipping and handling. What a load of crap. Needless to say I won't be buying from that site. I'll be having a drive around Rocky on Monday for quotes to buy the old way.

Don't flash
Submitted by sea-kem on Fri, 2015-01-02 17:14If you are driving Indian Ocean rd and see the coppers don't flash to warn anyone because I want them to book all the morons that are driving on that rd. Coming back today I had a fat slag tailgate me for about 5km ( I was sitting on 110) when she over took me on the overtaking lane she came at me with a mouthfull of abuse. I just waved the bird at her. Anyway the whole family watches as she heads down the hill toward Wilbinga grove at breakneck speed to overtake another car over double white lines. Deserves to have the book thrown at her face. Funny thing is we catch up to her at the Burns beach lights great lot of good all that speeding and idiocy did her.
